6 years ago today bluebird of bitterness posted this!
Another old post to brighten up a dull Friday. What better than a trip to the seaside and a little sunshine? First published as Swimming For Beginners on 01/07/2023.
To brighten up a dull Friday:
But why no lady conductor?

What instrument would you choose to play?
It was recently the birthday of Linda, a friend from work days and, in the process of checking whether it was a significant number this year, I found this little offering from a few years ago!
§
Linda Barlow’s sixty-five, a mentor and a sage
But surely not, she cannot be, how could she be that age!
I met her when she was my wife, but only while at work
She stopped me doing silly things and acting like a jerk
Supported me for many years and helped so many others
Our team was great, and tightly knit, just like a band of brothers*
We laughed a lot but did the job, so very well I think
We had great friends to help us and strong dark tea to drink!
§
Happy Birthday Linda xx and thank you
*(and sisters, actually far more sisters than brothers!)
An occasional post of my music choices. No analysis, or explanation, maybe just a few words to say why!
No words, other than to suggest that you just close your eyes and listen to this glimmer of joy.
Or six!

Jill, at J-Dub’s Grin and Bear It, wrote about the Full Flower Moon and I mentioned that I had taken some photos of it at 4am today, just prior to the Moon setting. No planning. I just happened to receive a summons from my bladder and noticed the bright light through my bedroom window.
I’m not a fan of modern parenting techniques, especially the American kind that praises a child with constant “Great Job” for completing every task. However, I think it’s a good thing that we should all be proud of ourselves every once in a while, so here’s mama nous, especially for you…and I do mean YOU!
*
Hi, I’m mama nous (*ma*ma*noo) and I’m so excited to sing with you!
I share songs, tools, and magically mindful (re)parenting strategies to help you connect with children (including your inner child!) in ways that gently build emotional intelligence & resilience.
I believe kids’ music should be enjoyable for grown-ups too, so my musical style is influenced by my background as an indie folk musician. I hope my songs bring more joy and playfulness into your family’s life, give you language to start big conversations, and help you nurture your own inner child.
I′m proud of myself
And i’m really really cool
Cuz i did that thing
That i didn′t wanna do
And i did a good job
And it wasn’t that bad
And now that it’s over with
I′m really really glad!
§
I′m proud of myself
And i’m really really great
Cuz i had lotsa patience
When i didn′t wanna wait
And i did a good job
And it wasn’t that bad
And now that it′s my turn
I’m really really glad!
§
I′m proud of myself
And i’m really really strong
Cuz i said i was sorry
When i did something wrong
And i did a good job
And it wasn’t that bad
And now that i made amends
I′m really really glad!
§
I′m proud of myself
And i’m really gassed up
Cuz i made a big mess
Then i went and cleaned it up
And i did a good job
And it wasn′t that bad
And now that my space is clean
I’m really really glad!

That i didn′t wanna do
