Sunset

Over on GC and Sue W’s Weekly Prompts site, the Wednesday Challenge is the word Sunset. I don’t often take part in this challenge but I knew immediately what had to be entered for this one as tomorrow is the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings on 6 June 1944.

“Sunset”, also known as the “Retreat Call”, is a bugle call played in United Kingdom and British Commonwealth countries to signal the end of the official military day.

The Lost Words Blessing – My Music

An occasional post of my music choices. No analysis, or explanation, maybe just a few words to say why!

I offer this song as a blessing to everyone for the Winter Solstice and to wish you all a happy, restful, and healthy Christmas and New Year. Thank you for all your wonderful posts, comments and friendship this year and always.

Compare – A Sorta Sonnet

BERJAYA

What’s a weekend without a challenge. Over at SueW and GC’s site you can find out how to have a go and can find the links to read all the entries. Click on this to go there.

I pondered on comparing children’s play in years gone by to that of today and have written a sorta sonnet.

§

Playing – then and now

§

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Why would you even think of that?

In that case will you come to play?

The sun’s quite strong so wear a hat!

(THEN)

So off we went with not a care

And stayed out ‘til we couldn’t see

Our Mums not bothered what or where

As long as we were back for tea

(NOW)

I’ll just let Mum know where I’ll be

She worries if she doesn’t know

I’m not allowed to climb a tree

And must be careful where I go

.

I pity children of today

They have no freedom when they play

Back in February I reposted this magnificent piece from Andy, The City Jackdaw.

Yesterday, I came across this recording using Eric Ericson’s Chamber Choir, featuring singers and musicians from Kyiv.

It made me sad, and happy, in equal measure, and I thought it deserved to be shared.

You may imagine I am standing here just to display this vastly overpriced ensemble. You are wrong!

I am judging you.  I am judging you, and every other passing primped person who considers me beneath them.

We will prevail.  Do not doubt that!

The day will shortly dawn when we will demand equality. No longer will we stand apart.  No longer will we be subjugated.  And that will not be enough!

We will, believe me, take our rightful place.

Prepare yourself.

Your days are numbered!

Ode To Freedom — City Jackdaw

I wish someone would write an ode to freedom that we all could sing!  – Abba

This very apt post from City Jackdaw in Manchester expresses my jumbled feelings far better than I could do so myself. Thank you Andy.

These are difficult times; awful times. Amidst the uncertainties tonight I found myself returning to this song, the closing track of ABBA’s long-awaited comeback album. An understated anthem with a touch of the Tchaikovskys about it. I would like to think that freedom isMore than just a word Hope this post finds you at peace […]

Desmond Tutu – RIP

Desmond Tutu, 7 October 1931 – 26 December 2021, was described as Warm, Exuberant, and Outgoing.

Amongst the things he said are:

  • “Be nice to whites, they need you to rediscover their humanity.”
  • “When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land. They said, ‘Let us pray.’ We closed our eyes. When we opened them, we had the Bible, and they had the land.”
  • “Enemies are always friends waiting to be made.”

He lived
he laughed
he cried

He smiled
he served
he died
