Lens Artists Challenge – Walking the Neighborhood

This week Tina has us cruising through our neighborhoods. This post includes photos from walking and biking as well as driving to nearby areas. We live in rural North Carolina (lower Currituck County). Our neighborhood is golf course community and also has a marina for boating on the North River, Albemarle sound and beyond. We live on the 13th fairway and one day I was out back with my camera and got this serendipity photo of 4 friends.

The marina is a great place to sit with a morning coffee.

Like many rural areas, small family cemeteries are found throughout. We were told that our neighborhood used to be a potato farm and there is a family cemetery here that dates back to the 1800’s.

Sometimes we spot deer at dusk and one evening this one stood still long enough for me to get a quick photo.

A short drive from our neighborhood is a small farm that’s an animal sanctuary. The favorites are the miniature horses.

In a 15 minute drive we can be on the beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks. Heaven!!

I hope everyone in the affected areas of the current hurricane are safe and sound. Thank you Tina for a great topic.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Topic Diagonal Lines

This week’s topic on CFFC is diagonal lines. Since we don’t have any tall trees in our yard let, I have been using perches for the birds. Basically it’s a branch or a piece of driftwood that I anchor in a planter. It gives the birds a spot to sit while waiting their turn on the feeders and gives me the opportunity for photos. Here are 3 of our backyard friends. (Also posting for Bird of the Week)

Monthly Favorites – August 2024

The first official day of fall is just around the corner but we are still enjoying some beautiful days outdoors.

The hummingbirds have been quite a treat over the past several weeks. They are a lot of fun to watch.

We also had the opportunity to see herons and egrets this month.

And of course, there are the flowers and insects of summer as well!

Have a great day!!

Lens Artists Challenge – Topic – Shorelines

Anne of Slow Shutter Speed has picked the perfect topic for me – shorelines. My first love is the beach but I am also quickly becoming a fan of other waterways since we purchased a pontoon boat a couple of years ago.

The Albemarle Sound is beautiful on a calm day.

There is also the opportunity to see beautiful wildlife in the marsh.

The beaches of the Outer Banks are beautiful and popular with vacationers. This was taken at a pier in Nags Head.

However, storms can do their damage.

I’ll close with my favorite beach which is on Hatteras Island and is part of the Pea Island Wildlife area. To get to the beach, you park on the side of the road and hike over the dunes. Even in the summer, there are very few people on it and the surfers in the family prefer the surf there. I love the view and the peace.
