Today's good thing: obviously, the awesome news about Brittany!***

Work was most definitely not awesome. They know not to try me so close to inventory.

***From Diane: So sorry i forgot to update this morning, but its been quiet a day.. oh what a happy day it is!! God is awesome my daughter is amazing and im over flowing with joy ...our girl got to drink her 1st dr pepper today around noon...and in her wee tiny lil voice she said 'mmm so good' those were some of the sweetest words ive ever heard !! She wanted yogurt so of course yogurt is what she got along with several of her favorite snacks she can have ...AND guess what??? Doctor just told me and Brett that the plan is to have her home (with a hospital bed) in a week!!

Today's good thing: lots of good things! Brittany doesn't have an infection. She's breathing on her own, so hopefully the tube will be coming out, and no tracheotomy. And she's communicating with people.

There were good things, here, too. Squeaky let me sleep until after 9. J got up right after me, we had breakfast, but didn't do much. We let the kittens in here and Squeaky came so close to playing with them! There's hope yet.

Later, I went outside and mostly just sat on the porch enjoying the breeze. Why does it feel hotter now than it was in July? It got cloudy and the breeze kept up, so I trimmed the bushes near the street. Later, my lawn care people came to cut the grass. And even though J doesn't feel well, he put the thingies on the truck so the hood stays up and I don't cuss as much if I have to do anything under the hood.

I made baked salmon, boiled shrimp, and potatoes for dinner, and peach cobbler for dessert. It wasn't bad at all.

Today's good thing: this horrible work week is over!

The update on Brittany is not so good. From Diane, via Stephanie: they were going to do a tracheotomy, but Brittany's fever, which was low grade, is spiking. They cancelled the surgery and are trying to find out why she has the fever. Everyone please pray she doesn't have an infection, because in her condition, that would be very bad.

In other news, I came home, on a Friday, for the second week in a row, and did dishes and laundry. I don't know what's up with that, either.

In other not-so-good news, J has a sinus infection, or maybe just a horrible man cold.

Today's good thing: Brittany's surgery went well and since she's breathing on her own, they were going to try removing the ventilator. Everyone keep praying for her, and for Diane and Stephanie as well.

The less said about work, the better. I did the pain mod and everyone on earth needed pain meds... coincidence? I was supposed to leave at 3, but McLane's arrived late and I was asked to stay and work it.

Today's good thing: work wasn't completely pleasant, but it wasn't horrible.

Brittany update:

Update on Brittany today. As of right now they are postponing her surgery for today. The surgeon wants to see if she’s strong enough to breathe on her own, which she’s been doing good so far so hopefully no tracheotomy. Right now she is running a fever so we are waiting to hear what the doctors decide to do. They have to try to keep her sedated because she keeps raising her left arm and trying to grab all the tubes. I’ll update you all as soon as I hear more. Keep sharing, donating and praying!

Today's good thing: Brittany is still improving. She'll have more surgery on Monday, so please keep praying for her and for the family as they deal with this.

Work was awful, and morale is pretty low. On the bright side, I got to see Ms Betty, LaKisha and her baby boy, and Ms Bessie today.

Two updates from Stephanie:

1 Update on Brittany. She is about to go into surgery. They are hoping to do 3 surgeries today to fix her fixators and to work on both sides of the hips (I can’t remember the medical terms) I think they may do internal fixators on her hip. I appreciate all the love and support from everyone but I am so emotionally overwhelmed and exhausted that I’m not able to respond to everybody so just keep a look out on my posts. It’s crazy... you always hear about this stuff on the news but you never realize just how bad it is until it’s someone you love laying there. My heart absolutely breaks everytime I walk into her room seeing her like that, so helpless and knowing there’s nothing I can do to take the pain away. I’m asking each of you to please consider donating even if it is just $5 every little bit helps, or buy a T-shirt on that post. But most of all keep praying for everybody impacted by this tragedy. B is a fighter and I’m so incredibly proud at how far she has come so far. She is going to have a very long difficult road in front of her so just keep praying.

2 Brittany did well in her surgeries today, unfortunately she’s still asleep so I wasn’t able to talk to her. They took the external fixators off of her legs but she still has one on her pelvis. They took the tube out of her head and she has a feeding tube now as well. She will have a surgery tomorrow on her right arm. Please keep praying.

Today's good thing: Brittany is continuing to improve, so that is awesome. Work wasn't horrible, but it was a long day.

Here's Stephanie's update for today:

She did really well throughout the night and her bladder issues are fixed. She is coming off of sedation but they still have her on a high dosage of pain medicine. She’s been moving her arms and hands a lot more. We are waiting to hear back about when her next surgery will be, either tonight or tomorrow. I’ll keep y’all posted as I will be staying with her tonight.

Today's good thing: Brittany is still hanging in there!*** Keep the prayers coming. She's already our miracle girl, making it through that horrible car crash. I just want her to be out of danger and want her to heal.

Work-wise, there were too many freaking people there today. Most of them were rude.

*** She was supposed to have a surgery today, but that one had to be postponed when they discovered her bladder was injured. They were able to repair it, thank goodness.

Today's good thing: Brittany is still hanging in there. This is an update from this morning:
Update on Brittany. I’m not sure of the correct medical terms but, She has numerous fractures and broken bones. As far as internal, they are using something to inflate her lung, and there’s something wrong with her kidney as well as fractured ribs. We’re not sure of the damage to her right eye, but they had to stitch her face from the right of her right eyelid across to the left of her forehead. 2 bones broke through the skin, one being in her arm and the other her leg. She had surgery yesterday to get an external fixator to hold her pelvis and legs in place. The scary thing about her pelvis injury is that there’s a 50/50% chance.... but she made it passed the first few hours now we are just praying for no infection. We still aren’t allowing visitors at this time because we don’t want to put her under any stress or increase the risk of infection. She’s in a lot of pain so they have her on a pretty high dosage. Unfortunately they can’t keep her sedated because her blood pressure keeps dropping. She did well throughout the night so she is scheduled for another surgery around 10 am today. The doctors are surprised at how well she’s doing with all the damage that has been done. She’s a fighter and has a very long road to recovery. We ask that you keep praying for her as well as Dustins family and friends and the other lives lost during this tragedy. Thank you all for checking in on her. We are all still really overwhelmed so we’re sorry to not be able to respond to everyone. I will continue to update y’all through this process and I just ask that you please pray and respect all the parties involved.

This is the latest update from Stephanie: First surgery on her left arm went well, they said she might not gain full use of her arm again.. the bone was unrepairable so they put plates in I think.. she was able to move her fingers after though.

Please keep praying! It's definitely helping. Thank you all so much.

We had a pretty laid back day here, we just did laundry, and I did a little gardening. It wasn't horribly hot, there was a breeze and a little rain.

Today's good thing: Brittany is hanging in there***. Thank you all for your prayers. She had two surgeries today and if she does well tonight, she'll have more tomorrow. Apparently nearly everything is fractured.

*** Last night, my niece Brittany, my brother Robbie's daughter, was in a really bad car crash. Her boyfriend ran a red light and hit another car. The boyfriend and the couple in the other car died. Brittany was airlifted to the hospital and is in critical condition. It's been a rough day. It brought back when Taylor was in a car crash years ago. I feel like I don't want Brett, Elizabeth or Eve in a car ever.

First, the good.

Today's good thing: off work, slept late, had a nap this afternoon, about to go back to sleep after I read a bit.

The bad: Brittany's not coming.

Today's good thing was another good day at work.

Also, found out my niece Brittany will be up next Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday for a visit!

And tonight I managed to enlarge my download window to full screen and had to get J to change it back, because I couldn't even remember how I did it. Then I made my pix go to slideshow and had to get J to change it back, because I couldn't even remember how I did it. *sigh*

I just called the dental office J was referred to, and the person I talked to not only will not negotiate, she as much as told me they have to have 50% up front because insurance only allows a certain amount for the procedure, so for them to overcharge, they have to get it up front. Assholes! J's getting ti pulled tomorrow morning.

An just so this post isn't all bad, my niece Brittany is coming up for a visit in the next couple of months! I haven't seen her in years. Hopefully my nephew Brett gets to come, too.

My niece Brittany was in a car accident. She's okay. In fact, she was about to go home when I talked to her a few minutes ago. Pretty much the same situation as Taylor, from the info I have - - she was in the car with friends, the driver was going too fast, went around a corner and lost control, hit a utility pole and flipped the SUV, and everyone was thrown out. And alcohol may have been involved. Thankfully, no fatalities this time. Brittany did something to one of the vertabrae(vertabra?) in her neck - - it should heal fine, they said - - they had to sew the tip of one ear back together, and she was bruised badly. It could've been much worse.

God help me when Brett, my niece Taylor, Jaci, Elizabeth and Eve become teenagers.

Mom's had two doctors' appointments this week, yesterday and today. Yesterday was about her back - - it's another compression fracture, *hopefully* because of her osteoporosis. She just had the MRIs and the cancer hasn't spread. All she did was pick up a gallon of chocolate milk and she felt something pop.

Today was her appointment to set up her port-a-cath removal. I thought it was just my sucky direction following, but it turns out the doctor's office has no sign, no front entrance, no name on the *back* entrance, and a parking lot with about 8 parking spaces for 3 offices. Anyway, Mom's surgery is Monday. She was supposed to be there at 8:30 am, but they called and said wait until 10, as they only have *one* anesthesiologist working Monday. I just know we'll be there all day again, just like when they installed it.

Taylor should be going home as we speak.

We heard from my niece Brittany last night. She called to tell us that she got her birthday card - - she turned *14* yesterday. We got to talk to her and Brett. Her mom, Diane, said they might come up the first of the year. I hope they do - - Mom wants to see the kids really badly and I don't want her to be disappointed. They're waiting until after Christmas because Diane's baby - - Brittany and Brett's half brother or sister - - - is due around Christmas. I hope the baby's born on the 21st - - Taylor and Brett's birthday.

We had a wonderful surprise - - my niece Brittany - - Robbie's middle child and only girl - - came up for a visit. She came with her stepgrandfather, who came to visit his parents, and goes back tomorrow.. She stayed with us last night and will spend tonight with my aunt and uncle. Mom loved seeing her. She was supposed to have come up for the 4th with Robbie and Chrisey, but relations between Robbie and Brittany's mom Diane aren't great. Mom said she's changed, but I told her, Brittany's 13 now, so she's going to be different.

And she's smoking now, with her mom's permission, which infuriated me, but before I could go off on her, Mom told her, not in the angry way I would've, that she really should quit, since smoking is what caused her(Mom's) lung cancer. Mom also told her if she could go back, knowing what she knows now, she would never have started. Brittany didn't smoke anymore in front of us, but who knows? That dampened my spirits a little, but it was so good to see her. And she is so beautiful, and she's still very much the Brittany I remember reading The Foot Book to so much that she could quote it along with me.

Me, Mom and BrittanyCollapse )
21st-Jun-2005 05:33 pm - My mom is much better!
pinkrose
My niece Brittany, who's visiting from Florida, went with me to visit her, and Mom looks so much better, and she's not coughing like she was. There was fluid in her lungs and around her heart. Her doctor said if she'd waited much longer to come in, she would've probably come by ambulance. I just hope this allays her fears about going to the hospital and she doesn't wait so long next time. Thanks to all of you for your love and support. I can't say it enough, I have the best friends *ever*!
