glinda: love makes you do the wacky (wacky!love)
So I did a last minute pinch hit and wrote:

Title: How Do They Rise (All the Little Angels Mix)
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Characters: Giles, Faith, Buffy, Dawn
Rating: T
Word Count: 1354
Summary: It's the Glorious 20th of May, those who survived remember.
Author Notes: Remix of [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni's How Do They Rise Up. Taking the idea of the Glorious 25th of May and transplanting it into the Buffyverse. Not Season 8 compliant (mainly because I haven't read it). With many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] purple_bug for beta-ing and pointing out where I failed at tv-canon compliance.

story below )

Also I submitted myself for remix madness and got an awesome story, which I've had open in a tab for the best part of a week trying to come up with an appropriate rec. (I really like that about kudos, that if I get a fic and I have a week where I dont have time/energy to put together a proper response, I can at least let the author know that I liked it while I get enough brain together to respond) I refreshed it today and it turns out that [profile] significant_owl wrote it, which makes it extra exciting.

Go read: Neither Fire Nor Ice (When the World Ends Remix) which is much angstier then the original - mainly due to the original being one of the few fics I've written in Merlin fandom that isn't either rather dark or a complete angst fest - and has lots of Merlin and Morgana at the end of the world.
glinda: Merlin OT4 with swords (Merlin OT4)
Title: A Brief Introduction to Pre-Modern History
Rating: PG
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Arthur/Gwen/Merlin/Morgana
Word Count: 2917
Spoilers: Goes AU at the start of Season 3
Warnings: None
Summary: Arthur is fire, Merlin is air, Gwen is earth, Morgana is water: scenes from the end of the world.
Author Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] cor_leonis_1961 I really struggled to write this, watched a certain movie for inspiration and suddenly it flowed out of fingers at top speed. I watched The Fifth Element just before I wrote this, it seems to have bled through a little. I hoped it might up the crack quotient, instead it just seems to have upped the melodrama content. Goes AU from the beginning of Season 3.

Some things are worth fighting for.
glinda: yellow crocus on a bed of snow (Default)
Sitting on the train home from post-work-pubbage, not really paying attention when the announcement comes to apologise that there are no lights on in Stirling station and to warn people about slippy conditions, I look out the window to see the station illuminated only by the station street lamps and swirling in heavy snow. By the time I got to my station there was a good inch on the ground and it was still snowing heavily. I did some happy twirling and crunching through fresh snow in my boots on the way home.

Work has been pretty manic this month, which has rather got in the way of getting much writing done as there's been a lot of in the office early and staying late, and taking work home with me :(

I'm off on holiday next week, so I expect I'll get lots done but I've only got four days left of November!

Things written since the last update:
Metamorphosis (Doctor Who: Sharona, Leo, Martha)
Glide (Pushing Daisies: Chuck)
Culinary Delights (Stargate SG1: Sam, Jack, Teal'c)
For A Stormy Night (Doctor Who: Amelia Pond)
Roommate Blues (Dark Angel: Max/Original Cindy)
Put Away Childish Things (Merlin: Morgana)

So here's where I am with word count:

3968 / 10000

I need to write 6032 words in the next four days *flexes knuckles* better get started then...

It's international femmeslash day! [livejournal.com profile] dw_femslash are holding a round of drabble tag (I wrote some Amy/Zoe and failed utterly at keeping it to 100 words), [livejournal.com profile] gwenmorganabbc are having a prompt fest, [livejournal.com profile] merlin_femslash are having a party and [community profile] camelot_fleet have been partying all week. My flist/dwircle is full of femslash! I wish I had more energy/inspiration to write...I also wish I knew why rich text hates me...

1. If you'd like to play along, reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. You then list (and upload or link to the video, if you feel like it) 5 (or 6 or 7) songs that start with that letter.
3. Then, as I'm doing here, you'll post the list to your journal with the instructions. Easy peasy!

[personal profile] birgitriddle gave me the letter 'F'.

1. Faith - Kirsty McGee and the Hobopop Collective

I have a soft spot for these guys, seeing that I did my first proper freelance work in about 6months for them back in January, filming them a Celtic Collections. They pretty much played their new album No.5 right through right now and it was good.

2. Fake Empire - The National

It took me ages to decide if I liked this song or not. I love the album as a whole and I really like the lyrics of this one but something about the melody...I always expect it to go somewhere else (somewhere quite epic actually) and then it doesn't (the drums are deceptive I think), its not the song you think its going to be but once you get past that its a good little tune.

3. Fear and Love - Morcheeba

I always wanted to like Morcheeba, mainly because I love Skye Edward's voice, but I never really could get into them. However this song has always been the exception, something mellow and beautiful (gorgeous strings and muted trumpet) sort of like a more upbeat and hopeful Portishead almost.

4. Fields of Fire - Big Country

This song is absolutely hellish to play on vinyl, the copy we have at the radio station sometimes skips at the start and the way the riff goes at the beginning means I can never tell whether its skipping or not until its too late. Good song though.

5. Floating in the Forth - Frightened Rabbit

Probably my favourite Frightened Rabbit song. It's the last track off their Midnight Organ Fight album (an album that can best be described as being about the bitter, angry, miserable ends of relationships) its such a hopeful, uplifting track after all the rage and misery that's gone before. It's sort of a song about suicide but really its a song about loss and hope.
glinda: Oh no, not again (not again)
Title: (Possibly Not) The End of the World
Characters/Pairings: Arthur/Gwen/Merlin/Morgana
Fandom: Merlin
Rating: T
Word Count: 2603
Spoilers (if applicable): Vague Season Two
Summary: Priorities for the post-apocalyptic world; blaming someone else for it.
Author Notes: For the benefit of anyone who's never encountered a Sunbeam, they are late 70s/early 80s cars with back windscreens that go down really low, give the impression to passengers they're travelling in a goldfish bowl and are, according to my dad, the best cars ever for reverse parking. Written for [personal profile] netgirl_y2k as part of [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon, using both her Merlin related prompts: (i) Legend has it that King Arthur will rise when he's most needed. Arthur, er, overslept a bit and missed the end of the world. He blames Merlin. and (v) Merlin & Morgana, after the magical apocalypse. "it's your fault." "No, yours.". Thanks to [profile] shinnyjenni for an excellent and speedy beta.

They stood together outside the tomb, looking out over Albion. Or what had once been Albion. It looked more like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Mainly because that’s what it was. )

Title: Four Times Gwen and Morgana Saved the World (and Once they didn't Need to)
Author: glinda
Rating: PG
Warning(s): None
Word Count: 1426
Author's Note: My entry in the 'Gwen/Morgana Five Things Challenge' at [livejournal.com profile] gwenmorganabbc.

Morgana stared at the dragon. The dragon stared back at her. )

Podfic!

Or if you've ever wondered what I sound like, here's your chance to hear me mangle some gaelic.

Title: An Samhradh Grian
Link to original text: An Samradh Grian
Author/Reader: [personal profile] glinda
Rating: G
Character(s)/Ship(s): Gwen/Merlin
Audio length: 59 seconds.
Notes: My first attempt at podfic, so I went for something small. I blame [personal profile] briar_pipe (and the fine folks at [community profile] camelot_fleet in general) who said this story should be podfic.

glinda: Merlin OT4 with swords (Merlin OT4)
[livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice reveals up so I can own up to this one. Also, by this morning I had read all but about four or five of the fics posted for this and of course two of those turn out to be by people on my flist *headdesk*

Title: How Merlin and Lancelot Stole Christmas
Pairing(s)/Character(s): Merlin, Lancelot, Nicholas of Myra
Warnings: Not applicable
Spoilers: Only vague ones other than the existence of Lancelot I'd not seen Season 2 yet when I wrote this.
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2003
Summary: Tis a noble quest, not bodysnatching in the slightest.
Author's Note: Based on [personal profile] iambickilometer's prompts of 'oranges' and 'The one where Merlin meets a fellow named Nicholas who has some ideas about giving. They exchange notes. There are Shenanigans.' Someone else might have written beautiful, beautiful crack with that, I wrote historical gen. I may have played a bit fast and loose with the history of Lycia (also I’m fairly sure Ireland wasn’t all one country in the 6th century, and may still have been known as Hibernia) but given that they’re on a quest from Camelot that’s probably incidental. Many thanks to the mods for the extension and [personal profile] such_heights for the beta.

Merlin liked Lycia, no one had tried to burn him at the stake yet

- Giles, BTVS

Creativity is... viewing the world from a different angle. Taking things from everyday life that otherwise might seem mundane and go un-noticed, and turning them into something beautiful. Finding beauty where there seems to be none and changing the perceptions of others so they can see that beauty too. Making something out of seemingly nothing...

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country.
