Busy, busy me this week. I love my work but it does have an unfortunate tendency to take over my life/eat my time. (Electricians are the bane of my existence).

Comedy moment at work the other day
J: [personal profile] glinda  I need you!
Me: *amused* really?!
A: !
P: *suggestive eyebrows* really?
J: *realises what he just said* I just thought you should know...
K (my boss): there's a sexual harassment suit in there somewhere...
J: *desperately* "Pour le petit edit de le film!"
Me: *deadpan* and there was me thinking I'd accidentally walked into an episode of the Avengers...
J: I should have thought of that first...

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if my work actually did come up with a complicated light/sign system to indicate that my presence was required a la the 'Mrs Peel, we're needed' signs from The Avengers...

Radio station stuff going well, actually did stuff at production meeting this week. There's no an advert on the airwaves with my voice on it! (Oooh also we're going to be live on the internet at some point soon, so if any of you fancy listening to be an my strange taste in music on a Sunday afternoon, soon you'll be able to!

Wow, your header image is really pretty. I don't think I've noticed it before. There's a Shetland film festival? Like, the islands? Wow! Also, hey, cross-stitch!

A few high-profile knitbloggers recently went to Shetland--whether together or separately I don't know--and got to go places like Jamieson and Smith, and to knitting museums, and I don't know what all. The took gorgeous pictures. I was so envious I nearly cried, no joke.

"You'll always be mine, always and never. Never. The Fire, baby. It'll burn us both. It'll kill us both. There's no place in this world for our kind of fire. Always and never. If I have to die for you tonight, I will."
- Sin City

Kryten: "Is it just me, or is that cockroach shuffling too loudly?
Rimmer: "Kryten, it's called a hangover, don't panic."
Lister: "We're on a mining ship, three million years into deep space... can someone explain to me where the smeg I got this traffic cone?"
The Cat: "Hey! It's not a good night unless you get a traffic cone! It's the police woman's helmet and the suspenders I don't understand! "

The Operative: "That girl will rain destruction down on you and your ship. She is an albatross, Captain."
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: "Way I remember it, albatross was a ship's good luck, 'til some idiot killed it."

"You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."

"Smell is the most powerful memory trigger there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell - musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be smelly."
- Giles, BTVS

Creativity is... viewing the world from a different angle. Taking things from everyday life that otherwise might seem mundane and go un-noticed, and turning them into something beautiful. Finding beauty where there seems to be none and changing the perceptions of others so they can see that beauty too. Making something out of seemingly nothing...

"They have not wanted Peace at all; they have wanted to be spared war -- as though the absence of war was the same as peace."
- Dorothy Thompson

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."
- Dalai Lama

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."
- Pastor Martin Niemöller

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."
- Maya Angelou
