The current round at retro_icontest is called "A ton of textures" - over 200 in fact - and you have to use them in your icons. I enjoyed the process because I started from the textures and then added the pictures instead of the other way around how I usually do it. Almost all of these icons contain two textures. So that was fun!

The current round at retro_icontest is the Icon Crossing round from somein30. I had been working on sets for 2023 and 2024 already, but never finished them. I'm using this round to post those icons I made then, along with the new ones. I also randomized new pairs for 2025 and made new crossover icons for those. As suspected, this was so much fun, and I made a lot more icons than expected. In fact, I don't think I've ever made this many icons for a contest in one month before. Some of them are hilarious crack! :D Luckily, retro_icontest has no upper limit, so here you go:

This time, only about half a year has passed until I remembered to make a few more icons for my 100ships table. \o/

I'm especially happy with these:

* the Sunlight one, it says "[you used to] shine so brightly", a comment that the FL made about the ML multiple times in the first few episodes, and here they're kissing in the light of the setting sun, surrounded by beautiful grass.
* the Yellow one, which is from the proposal scene in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, where he sings a song to her. Someone made a clip on twitter where it's evident that Wu Lei actually sang Coldplay's Yellow to her, but since they couldn't use the song in the final product, they had to write another song (which he sings in the OST).
* the Lipstick one, where Song Sanchuan uses Liang You'an's lipstick to write her name on the alumni board of her university. That's her name as he wrote it, on the icon.
* the Leather one, where Ling Buyi is wearing the leather armor she sewed for him, which everyone thinks is chicken (why?) but it's supposed to be Mandarin duck. The "why a duck" quote is from the Marx Brothers (youtube clip).

Just in this month: the result of the bestof_icons voting for 2024! And the results of the remake activity that takes place at that same comm every year.

First off, the voting:

Sadly, participation dropped significantly from last year (down from 25 to 16), but I blame the problems with polls - dw had just released a new code push which broke the polls and delayed everything. Despite that, I'm happy with the results.

I am not unhappy with this choice. It represents my style pretty well, and the text work always takes effort, so I'm happy that was rewarded.

The current round at monthlyinspo is about Art Movements. I always love to make my icons look painted, but this time the "fine art photography" theme caught my eye and I decided to make some sensual b/w icons. So I ended up with a half-and-half set.

The current round at icontalking was to add santa hats (or other festive things) to your existing icons, and I randomly chose six (plus one active user icon) for this. It was pretty quickly done and I had a lot of fun with it!
