Mar. 13th, 2025 09:41 pmThe latest round at
retro_icontest asked for a set made from exactly two screenshots. I chose two HPI screenshots - surprise - and made one set:

on 2025-03-15 09:04 pm (UTC)I tried to make as different crops as possible (the only thing one can really do with the same caps over and over - although omg have you seen setsunamew's set, that's next level!) but in fact the Karadec icons ended up being almost identical. I had the alt as #2 first, but then specifically made a farther crop icon at the very end because they just all looked waay too similar.

on 2025-03-16 02:04 pm (UTC)Yes, it was great! But you've really masked the same-caps origin pretty well, too! And, I mean, that is the challenge, and it was fun to see what variety of crops and treatment we all came up with.

on 2025-03-15 12:12 am (UTC)Very cute set I like the all the pink ones! Did you see there's a US version of this series now? I haven't watched it. I want to see the French one because of your icons.

on 2025-03-15 09:19 am (UTC)Yes, I've seen the US remake (I can never resist an adaptation). I wasn't very impressed by the US version, it's blander than the original. Not bad, but also nothing I particularly fell in love with. My rec post mentions it:
https://tinny.dreamwidth.org/772541.html
I have nothing against the American adaptation, but... in the very first ep already (and that ep is shot by shot identical for the most
part), if you watch the interrogation of the rape victim, you can see Mehdi Nebbou react to the statement with, idk, pain and shock, the way he looks away, and then carefully continues questioning her. In the US version, Karadec doesn't bat an eye, and immediately accuses her. I don't know exactly who to blame here, but I think it's a combination of direction and editing (because the actors are good in both). The US version feels bland somehow, and the French version rich.
I made two clips of that scene to compare if you're interested (talk about rape CW, obvsly):
french clip
us clip
Fwiw, the US remake 'only' has two or three cases that are exactly the same as in the French original, so it's not a complete redo if you watch both.

on 2025-03-29 07:24 pm (UTC)Oh, you watch both already! I never really liked It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia very much or I'd be more excited to watch the US version, I guess. I am bored with American police investigation team + consulting detective dramas, the last one I really liked to watch was Bones and sometimes Elementary, but I think the French series would be more interesting to see, if they show different locations. I thought it was private detectives, not police, now I'm less interested though, I still will keep it in mind to to watch. I mostly want to see the actress, in your icons she looks funny while being over the top with outfits, like Ab Fab. :)

on 2025-03-29 07:59 pm (UTC)Both Elementary and AbFab are good comparisons. If you don't like shows set in the police, I guess it could go either way. The police thing is very central (and she hates the police at first because she used to be a protester and blames the police for disappearing her ex), but I found the French setting sufficiently different from what I'm used to from UK or US shows, so it felt fresh to me.
Not sure what you mean about "different locations". They're not traveling through France and there are no touristy spots featured or anything. They're based in Lille, and all their cases take place locally there. The farthest they go is to the Bretagne (i.e. a few hours west of Lille).
From a plot perspective, pretty much every single case starts with a dead body - they're all murder investigations. But the draw really is the female main character, she's so great, I didn't really mind the plot one way or the other. :D

on 2025-03-15 09:09 pm (UTC)The coloring is also great on this whole set :)
The colors for HPI just always choose themselves, it's so much fun! Yellow and pink for Morgane, and turquoise for Karadec. Tadaa. :D
