My favorite visit on the market to fill up our cheese stock every Friday. (Header not so long 

 ago, the municipality planted bee ribbons everywhere along the edges of green spaces. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them this year.)

Farewell to a friend and colleague

 

Last Tuesday, I attended the funeral of a friend and colleague from the early days of my architectural career. It took place in the Great Church of Edam (founded in 1518). A building like this, with its wooden barrel vault, is always impressive, and as we walked in a long procession to the adjacent cemetery to the sound of bells ringing, I did feel a little sad. He had lived to the age of 88, so he hadn't exactly died in his cradle. The last photo is the polder view directly next to the church.

and it was very busy again

with many bargains for enthusiasts.

For a moment, I was tempted by a Hasselblad F with a 12 cassette and standard lens for €300, but in the end I kept the money in my pocket, thinking of all those beautiful 6x6 cameras that have been sitting unused in the closet at home for years. (Not in the picture  forgotten on the moment)

The local camera repairer also had some time for something else. Hopefully next year better.

Jan Hendrik Tromp Meesters had the Art Nouveau villa “Rams Woerthe” built on the Gasthuislaan in Steenwijk. In 1899, he moved into this house, designed by A.D.N. van Gendt from Amsterdam. The construction had cost more than 75,000 guilders. The header shows the entrance fence.

Unfortunately, I can no longer devote as much time to my blog as I used to, so I have to reduce the frequency of my posts. Let's just blame it on old age and the discomforts that come with it. I wish everyone all the best, and maybe we'll see each other again on the computer from time to time.

Mirror room

There is currently an abundance of photo exhibitions in Amsterdam.

 

These photos are from the collected works of Blommers and Schumm, a pair of photographers who are working in the fashion at Foam. The same museum is also hosting a retrospective exhibition of Co Rentmeester's work. The Stedelijk Museum has a major retrospective of the work of the recently deceased Erwin Olaf, and the JHM has street photography from New York between 1936 and 1951. Except for the first one, I still have to visit them all.

 The new ones are much whiter than the old ones and don't have that golden glow. One thing I do know is that they are much more energy efficient.

 The fence of our neighbor 2 gardens to the left and that under the smoke of Amsterdam. Times that we had snow on these days are since long gone.

Suddenly came across this store.

 

Full of stuff for wet shaving. So many shaving brushes, soap,rubber shaving soap dishes, and various razors that at some point it makes your head spin. One thing is clear. For these kinds of specialty items, you really have to be in the big city and may they continue to exist for a long time to come.
