So, last week's to-do list was massively helpful on the motivation front, reminding me of things I needed/wanted to do that might otherwise not get done. I didn't get everything done, but that's not the point of them really, the point is to provide a memory jog and structure and to remind me at the end of the week that things actually got done.

On the plus side, I started making this list this morning, looked at it and thought, 'alternatively I could just do those things', wrote my music post, had a shower and made some soup all before needing to leave the house to meet a friend for coffee. (Actually we had tea, I even made myself be adventurous and tried some bubble tea, quite pleasant, not sure that it would work as a cold drink though.) Also I popped into the shop on the way home to pick up some blue cheese to blend into my soup, checked out the reduced chiller cabinet and found some short-crust pastry so apparently we're having pie for dinner now! Suggestions for what I should put inside the pie are most welcome as I haven't even decided if it'll be sweet or savoury yet!

I'd been contemplating making pies at some point... That looks interesting. I wonder whether you can freeze them after?

I have frozen them! I put the (cooked) meat and veggies into an oven proof bowl and put the pastry on the top, then bake it until the pastry is very lightly golden, basically underdone. Then cool and freeze. I thaw them out, microwave them to heat them through, and finish in the oven to crisp up the pastry. They're really good in winter.

Okay, sounds interesting. Although I might need to substitute something else for the guinness, with being fodmap friendly. ;-)

I would find it interesting to see whether I could get the shortcrust fodmap friendly pastry to line the bowl to make it a proper pie (I think I can get the other for the roof of the pie).

"Smell is the most powerful memory trigger there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell - musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be smelly."

Creativity is... viewing the world from a different angle. Taking things from everyday life that otherwise might seem mundane and go un-noticed, and turning them into something beautiful. Finding beauty where there seems to be none and changing the perceptions of others so they can see that beauty too. Making something out of seemingly nothing...

"They have not wanted Peace at all; they have wanted to be spared war -- as though the absence of war was the same as peace."
- Dorothy Thompson

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."
