About "Heir"
Last summer, when I wrote "Heir," was the thirtieth anniversary of when I wrote Blood Vow, my second novel. It's therefore a delight to me that a scene I wrote all the way back in 1995 has spawned "Heir." As I mentioned last fall, "Heir" also brings back characters from The Fire Before. As usual, you don't need to have read any of my previous stories to understand this story.
Possible downtime at my website this month
I'm going to be switching webhosts this month because my current webhost is going out of business on the 23rd. Depending on how smoothly the switchover goes, there may be a period when my website is offline. Be sure to download any stories there you're currently reading.
Monthly update schedule
My apologies for being a bit late in posting this month. The Blood Vow omnibus turned out to be longer to prepare than I'd anticipated.
In recent weeks, I've been trying issue my monthly update at the beginning of the month, as well as issue blog fiction on Mondays, though I fear I've been rather hit-and-miss with the latter. I'm going to make a slight alteration to that schedule: from now on my monthly update will be on the first Monday of each month (barring unavoidable delays). Dedicating my Mondays to releasing stories works better for my schedule.
Concussion and errors
As I mentioned last month, I've been having a good run with my Muse; evidently, my Muse pays no attention whatsoever to concussions. Unhappily, I'm the one who's in charge of spelling. I'm still having after-effects from November's concussion: namely, my brain keeps mixing up homonyms. (At one point in the draft of a post, I said "righting" rather than "writing.") I feel like I'm back in elementary school. So, while I'm well enough now to continue bringing out new releases, I'd be especially appreciative if any of you folks who read my stories would let me know if you catch typos.
My long-time plea for corrections of continuity errors always applies. (I pause to correct a homonym error in the previous sentence.) For context: My series cycle bible for Chronicles of the Great Peninsula alone is nearly 40,000 words long. I do my best to track the 300+ characters in Chronicles, along with their varying architectures, ecological surroundings, geographies, weather patterns, laws, oaths, religious beliefs, ceremonies, languages, foods, games, rank-colors . . . Well, any of you who have read A Visitor's Guide to the Three Lands will have a sense of what I'm up against. I have a similar problem with my Turn-of-the-Century Toughs series cycle. Even with the help of my eagle-eyed beta readers, I could use all the reader help I can get in catching places in my stories where I contradict what I've said elsewhere in the series cycle.
Upcoming
Dangerous Games, a side story of The Motley Crew, is next up in my release queue. Wondering what happened on the Emorian side when Dolan started his flight? This is your chance to find out.
My fiction announcements are also available by e-mail and feeds.
