This beautiful mosaic is inside the old part of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Although most of the church was destroyed during the war, a few beautiful pieces survived. It's Monday again, you can get your mural fix at Monday Mural.
Continuing on yesterday's "worker" theme, here's a look at my kitchen from back in June. I assure you, it looks much different today! Although it's hard work, I think there is also some kind of fun to be had in destruction (in a controlled setting like this, of course).
Hope your week is well underway - I've sent in a few more job applications and I hope to be hearing something soon.
Old stuff somehow looks better to me in black and white. Plus I love the name of the restaurant next door to to this fabulous entrance. For more relics, take a look at Rubbish Tuesday.
Is anyone else having problems with blogger emailing comments? I used to get an email for every comment I receive on this blog, but now some are not coming through. Strange...
It's a little sad to see some of the beautiful old buildings of Berlin in such a state. But they make for such great photos, especially in black and white. For more "old stuff" take a look at Rubbish Tuesday.
Graffiti and general decay in a doorway near Rosenthaler Platz. Sadly, I think there are actually people living in these apartments. Although what is even sadder is once they are renovated, the current residents probably won't be able to afford to live there anymore. And then where will they go?
This type of brick facade is very typical for buildings found in the old eastern part of Berlin. I rather like the color and design, it's only a shame this one has been attacked by taggers. After searching online, I learned that this building is used as a youth center. You can see some pictures from the inside here.
Berlin is full of beautiful entrances and doorways, I can hardly photograph them all! I found this one particularly appealing with the shape of the glass in the doors and the art deco details above. It's only sad that it has been attacked by taggers, but the more I explore Berlin, the more I am liking the decay!
I found this stripey snake on Saarbrücker Straße in Mitte. It's not the nicest piece of wall art I've ever seen, but something about the childlike style appeals to me. I have a feeling this barrier has been put up because the building has been acquired by new owners. It probably won't be long until renovations begin and more apartments go up. I wonder if anyone will miss this little snake then?
Hope you had a great weekend! It's Monday again and I'm linking this post with Monday Mural.
Although most buildings in both east and west Berlin have been renovated, you sometimes run across one that hasn't yet been modernized. I find the decay has a certain beauty, but with property prices on the rise here in Berlin, I'm sure it won't be long before this building gets a make-over. This is a prime spot near the Hackeschermarkt and I'm sure the owner will get a pretty penny for it!
This elementary school is very near my MiL's home. We were walking past it recently and I asked if she knew what happened here. She didn't have any information, but it seems the school has been abandoned, although the building doesn't look like it was emptied. It's all a little sad - I can imagine this place used to be one of joy and laughter. And now it's covered with tags and left to ruin. Maybe the kids will come back one day!
PS: Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends! Have an extra slice of pumpkin pie on me!
