Also, I've heard that the Eva Solo Cafe Solo coffee maker is the best in the world, life-changing even. Anyone here have any experience with it? I may have 2 items on my list if it's as good as the hype.

My downstairs neighbors are throwing a raucous birthday party for someone in the backyard. It's quite loud and being the fuddy-duddy that I am, I want them to stop and go to bed or inside or something. It's only 10:15 on a Saturday night, guess I should be a bit more patient.

I've not posted since March. Not good. Totally dropped out of virtual life, also not good. So, this is my lame attempt to find balance and reconnect with a few folks.

Ok, this is quickie post. I'm having an awful night and thinking that I need to lose myself in a long H/D fic from maybe the last hd_holidays or some other fest. I haven't read H/D in nearly a year, but maybe it'll help distract me.

So I got my stimulus check this week (finally!)and I feel like doing my civic duty. I'm gonna spend it. I need a new TV, my current one is approx. 8 years old and has the annoying habit of blanking out to static every now and then, which forces me to turn it off and then on again to get the picture back. Very frustrating.

I see a flat screen in my future. However, I know nothing about flat screen TVs and I'm wondering if anyone out there in LJ-land has already done some research and can help me narrow my choices. I'm assuming all flat screens are hi-def, but maybe I shouldn't. I've heard plasma screens are being phased out...true or false? How concerned do I need to be with aspect ratio? And really, what's a reasonable price to expect to pay? Halp!

And one last civic duty related thing; the jury duty I had been assigned this month got cancelled so I didn't have to do my other civic duty and I'm okay with that.

Ok. So, I'm in the process of researching flights for a trip in June. I've looked a little at sites like Orbitz, Travelocity, Kayak, etc... and can find semi-cheaper prices, but I'm a little bit afraid of those places. I've looked at reviews which are overwhelmingly negative...the horrors of lost itineraries, hours on customer service telephone lines, etc...

I'm tempted to pay a little more and book a flight through an airline website, which feels a bit more secure.

What are your experiences? Tell me the good, the bad and the very ugly.

At this point, I'm not opening up about where I'm going, but it is international.

Ok, so I just finished the first season of Torchwood. I didn't love it the way I hoped or expected. The final two eps were the only ones that caught my attention at all. Really, the acting felt mediocre, the characters were not particularly sympathetic, some of the storylines were incomprehensible, and even for sci-fi it just all felt too far-fetched. Everyone (well, incapricious and fiona_fawkes) tell me that season 2 is much better, but I'm not convinced, and it's not listed on netflix, so I'd have to go looking for it, which I'm not likely to do.

If you love it, tell me why. If you don't...offer some things that I should add to my netflix queue, since I only have 7 things on it. I've watched Six Feet Under, Weeds, Dexter, BSG!, and I'd love to start a new tv show. Anyone seen Carnivale? Rome? The Wire?

Apparently I'm on the monthly plan when it comes to posting, and recently my posts have been food-themed. They used to be about shoes, but as I've put myself on a money-diet there have been no new shoes in my life recently.

Anyway. I've been looking for fun comms on LJ that are not related to fandom in any way shape or form. I thought I'd share a couple of my new finds, which are probably not new to some of you, and then ask you to share some with me. Seems reasonable.

1. trashy_eats. So much fun. Food related, of course. Instead of attempting to describe what trashy eating is, I'll link here to the post that hooked me in. Behold the bacon weave

2. A link in the trashy_eats comments somewhere lead me to can_i_eat_this, a community in which people ask Internet strangers what they think about eating the "week past its due date, but its been sitting in my fridge yogurt" and the like. What can I say? I find these sorts of things entertaining.

I'm doing another CD full of holiday cheer for anyone that wants one. This is my third year, I'm running out of fun holiday musical choices. It's nearly finished, but I'm still taking music if you have it and want to share it.

I'll be putting them together on a CD to send to anyone who is interested, but that's a post for a week day when more people are apt to see it.

I need to compile a list of HP characters that are alive as of the end of DH, but pre-epilogue. The more the merrier; obscure characters wanted.

Does anyone here remember that? If yes, will you link me. If nobody has one, can we start compiling one.

I'm cozied up in my wee apartment, listening to the sounds of Hurrican Noel (or is he a tropical storm now?)overhead. I've got warm coffee. I've turned on the heat for the first time this year and I'm feeling surprisingly content. I'm currently packing up my Pay It Forward gifties, but probably won't make it to the post office before it closes early on a Saturday. Hrmph. Ah well, minor details.

That was a lot about me, I'm suddenly feeling very self-centered. Tell me about you. What have you got going on these days? Exciting or mundane, I'll take it.
