That was sometime in 2000, shortly before Goblet of Fire was published. I didn't think much more about it until two years later, after my husband decided to read the Philosopher's Stone and find out what all the fuss was about.
"Do you think I'd like it?" I asked, after he'd finished.
He shrugged. "Probably."
The next thing I knew, I was in love. Big time. Little did I know how massively a story about a boy wizard would change my life, but it did. It made me a lover of fantasy and a more careful reader. It brought some amazing people into my life, and surprised me when many of those online acquaintances grew into genuine real-life friendships. It also brought me back to writing. As a child, I wrote all the time; as a teenager, I stopped, convinced that I wasn't good enough. Fandom made me want to become good enough; it made me want to at least try.
"I don't think you have time to waste not writing because you are afraid you won't be good enough at it." – Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
So this journal is partly about that effort and very much about celebrating JKR's world. I write (and even occasionally post) fic and beta read when I have the time. I adore almost everything about canon, but much less about the films. I love good writing, well constructed plots, canon characterizations and stories that touch something deep inside. My OTP is Harry/Draco, but I'll occasionally read other pairings and genfic.
For the record: I don't get involved in ship wars, fandom politics or wank. My time here is more limited than I would like, so I focus on making it as fun and positive as possible. I'm also extremely fandom-monogamous. I may occasionally squee over other favourite worlds, such as Buffy or BSG, but Harry Potter is the only fandom I actively participate in.
What Else Is There to Know? I am an uprooted American living in London. I am well over 18.
There will be mature content and lots of slash here. Please only friend me if you are over 18.
Friending Feel free to friend me if you like – no need to ask. I don't automatically friend back, but I will pop by your journal occasionally. I'm quite a private person, so most personal/real-life posts are friends-only; fandom-related posts are always public.
If you've wandered over here because I've friended you and you're wondering why, it's most likely because I've enjoyed your writing, your art or something you've said, or you just seem like a very cool person. I don't expect you to friend me back, but I'll be happy if you do.
Interests change over time, and very few relationships last forever, so if our paths eventually diverge, I'll take no offence if you decide to continue your journey without me, and I hope you'll feel the same way.
