how long ever after is

i am SO GLAD my girls from Qatar are here! for one, i thought i would never see Ghina again and i was so sad when we all left last summer.. but she's back and i remember why i connected with her so much! i know i told steele this but seriously - i must have been arabic in a past life because everything just felt so natural when i was there. i know how weird this is going to sound but just their scent alone gave me this wonderful feeling of happiness and absolute calm. all of their perfumes echoed the same lush warm musky floral notes which i associate so strongly with their culture. i can't really explain the smell exactly but it is what i remember most about Qatar. at home i still have the incense which i bought in the souk and every time i walk in the door i smell it an just instantly relax... i dunno... it just reminds me of one of the only times in my life where i felt so calm, comfortable and completely happy.

anywhooo! we got to introduce the girls to pumpkin painting and carving this evening which was pretty much hilarious! holidays kind of take on a new novelty when you see someone else experience them for the first time! afterwards we went out for dinner at bahama breeze. i forgot how good that place was! i had lemonade made from real lemons and sweetened with an actual cane of sugar! the chicken i ordered was also fantastic.. and the chocolate moose Ghina and i shared was to die for! tomorrow they're running around town visiting buildings and seeing the dead sea scrolls (so jealous!!) then we're all going for dinner at LCB's house!

theeeeeeeen the roomies and i are going shoppin for the halloween extravaganza on thursday! so much to do both party wise and homework wise.. i really do need to get crackin...

a little bit in love with you

peace pimpin' aint easy. the chamber singers filled in for 1st pres' choir this morning which required early risin... always fun! we sang a couple ditties at the 8 and 11am services which was.. well, painful. firstly there was the whole early thing -but thats generally whateva, but then we had to sit through this awful sermon TWICE! haha seriously, they're usually pretty good but this one was weirdly organized and didnt seem to actually convey a message.. strange.

the services were made even weirder by this woman's testimony about her volunteering experience in bolivia. apparently her most spiritually moving moment was when she gave a girl the "gift of beauty" by paying $25 bucks for a couple root canals. interesting how her spiritual experience had nothing to do with God but had everything to do with her making the girl's life better through aesthetics... very interesting...

needless to say we were all fighting sleep... soo painful... soooo painful...

came back to peace for fall carnival and manned the anthro club pumpkin walk which was actually really nice. the weather was beautiful, there were tons of kids, and everyone was having a great time! im actually surprised i didnt steal a few toddlers on the way out... there were some very adorable and deliciously awkward children out today -it was glorious haha. mom and caroline brought the boys out too which was great! isaac got tons of candy and sam made me presents and fetched me candy hahaha. having a 12 year old boyfriend rocks -lemme tell ya.

halloween party this week and i am so stoked! it's finally time to go shopping and decorate in a major way. annnnnnd it seems like we're gonna have a really good turn out! lets keep our fingers crossed that my shoes get here in time!

made for a boss

best family weekend ever! haha

we all decided awhile ago that it would be a blasty blast to get all our moms together and go out for a night on the town and last night was the night! tasha's mom flew down from nyc (with xavier's sister), cashmoney's mom came from goldsboro, jen's mom drove from PA, and my mom came from.. well 15 minutes away haha.

we all went out to 518 for some delishmo italian food and then we went to haven for dancing and some drinks. since tasha knows the bartender we were on "the list" and got in without having to pay cover! her friend couldnt give us free drinks (obviously) but she made sure to pour HEAVY which was awesome! i was a little disappointed at first because nobody wanted to dance so mom and i pretty much spent the night by ourselves on the floor but whatevs 'cause muh mudder is a fun lady haha. thankfully by the end of the night everyone had enough courage (and alcohol) to come out and dance!

the club itself was pretty cool but the people there were kinda weird... well namely the guys... who made up the majority of the club. usually it's the women who form circles and dance/talk on the floor but in haven the guys did it too... or rather they were the only ones who did it. it seemed like most of the girls in there made themselves available but nobody was approaching anyone! i would just chalk it up to the guys maybe just being gay or summat but they were watching the girls like hawks. and it wasnt as if the girls there werent cute... it was just weird!

cash and i did have a cool guy come up and buy us some very yummy shots and i did end up talking to a few.. but for the most part we all just hung around with our group. we left around 2 but jen and her mom wanted to stay so we went on ahead to another lounge for a bit before going back to the dorms where we ate the rest of our pasta. i'm sad that nobody played soulja boy the whole night tho... i mean i know the song is WAAY over but i just learned the dance and wanted to do it! i mean xavier and i did it when we got back to the dorm but it just wasnt the same! haha

all-in-all a good night!

i am however a little pissed at jen right now. i lent her my phone last night (she lost hers again) so she would know when her mom got in to town. i used her shower this morning and on the way out i saw my phone. got it and checked the call log to see if i missed any calls. nope, didnt miss any -but apparently she made some. one in particular to my wayward friend zac. i know he didnt pick up but now he thinks that i called him. blech.

i called him twice after he left and havent done so since. why should i? being someone's friend means that you talk or have some kind of contact with them at least occasionally. if he doesnt think our friendship is worth keeping than whatever -im not gonna work on a friendship which is obviously not wanted -but because she called him he's gonna think it was me and it ruins that whole strong statement thing. i kinda feel like she took my dignity in this situation. i was trying to bow out with some amount of grace and i feel like she reached her foot out and tripped me... and for no reason. and even though it was prolly a mistake, i wish she would have at least mentioned it... i dunno.. just makes me kinda mad....

try and be cool

yay for me! ive actually matured! i had gross feelings towards someone and i actually talked to them about it! i of course had that week of stony silence first (as per usual) but then i actually had the inclination to talk to that someone about how i felt and blah blah blah

i NEVER do that... i usually stew until i a) get "over it" or b) stop being their friend. but NOOO.... this time i talked about it.. and they listened! so awesome!
