may was full of fun, food and friends. free market in the library was the most unusual event i have been to in the last 30 days. scenic hikes we did are Memaloose wildflower haven in the Columbia River Gorge and Smith Rock state park. Both of them are in Oregon, equally amazing and unique. https://whymilenawhy.wordpress.com/2026/05/11/nature-hikes/

let me share a few pics here. while the photos are uploading i will tell you about the book i enjoyed reading in may, i have mentioned it before Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by L. Gibson. i regret not reading it earlier, what an eye-opening, profoundly insightful read. it talks about the four types of emotionally immature parent: emotional, driven, passive or rejecting. it gives real life examples so you can recognize all the characters right away. it hurts to go over all the examples and descriptions and yet totally worth your time.

the movie of the month is Devil Wears Prada 2, absolutely stunning Meryl Streep and the rest of the acting crew. we went with friends and it was a blast. i laughed and laughed because the characters were so relatable. i also loved the ending, didn’t expect it to be honest. so yes, it’s a 5 star movie in my opinion.

the culinary adventure of the month was The Original Peruvian Food and Minimarket in Redmond, Oregon which is close to Smith Rock State Park. It’s a family owned business with lots of ingredients brought from Peru, both food and drinks were traditional Peruvian homemade staples. i had lomo saltado and my husband got spaghetti squash. it was better than expected. the owner told us a story of his and his family’s immigration, he brought all the family to Oregon and never looked back. we also met his wife and children, they are the happiest people we have met in a long time.

henna hand painting experience at the international mothers’ day event was pretty cool, the master did it free style and the smell of henna is so relaxing, i enjoyed the art process, the smell and the company which was very inspiring and bright. most vendors had free gifts and we enjoyed complimentary food and drink.

chinese gardens in portland had a free day so we went to see the performance and sip some tea in their stunning teahouse, it was empty this time because people were out for the dance and music. https://whymilenawhy.wordpress.com/2026/05/03/chinese-garden-in-may/
