I imagine standing
at the edge of eternity
at the edge of the abyss
and wondering
if there has been an echo
from the life I have lived on earth
anywhere in the world

You can learn a lot about me
without me ever having to say a word
my hair blows in the wind

as she signs the final papers
she keeps blinking her eyes
thinking of vows, remembering lies
trying to hide what she can’t disguise
as the pen ends the life
that lasted for years
and the wounded walk away
she loses the battle with tears

When my heart hears
your heart singing
keeping time
in unison
in a syncopated rhythm
made for lovers
It knows the song by heart
and joins in a duet of
“Ten Thousand Ways
To Say I Love You”
It’s my heart’s favorite song
to sing to you
