Alanna stepped back from Anthony’s body, dropping the bloody knife.
Mary, relieved of the need to pin him down magically, came forward to wrap eir arms around the shaking Alanna. “It’s okay,” Mary murmured. “It’s okay now. You’re free of him.”
you’re mine
“Am I?” Alanna asked, uncertain which voice she addressed.
you’re MINE
A cold wind whipped through the clearing, stirring Anthony’s loose shirt and shoving Alanna and Mary stumbling back two paces.
Alanna felt Mary slam up a stone wall of magic, and the windchill eased. Alanna herself tried, haltingly, to kindle a weapon of flame.

Wow.
For myself, I’ve been slowly working on the fic of doom. (The one I’ve been struggling with not wanting to write, since at least part of it is…not pleasant.) I’m still not entirely sure how my heroes are going to pull off the rescue of an injured person. (Though I may just go with adrenaline is a wonderful thing. As is really, really not wanting to die.)
I just wrote a post about how I dislike that punctuation marks are about function rather than form using as the example pauses.
And now I’m wondering how we would punctuate Shatner-speak if English punctuation were equipped to handle pacing.
Shatner-speak: where I // say // a few words . . . and-then-quickly-end-things.
Do you suppose Shatner’s Tek War novels were written the same way he speaks?
And, yes, we could always use more punctuation. Especially when it comes to speech.
depizan: they were written by Ron Goulart, but I could readily believe he tried to “Shatnerize” his writing.
