AMAs and HAHA MY FICS

i ended up doing 3 days of catching up on my AMAs, i could also do today's but i usually dont like doing them late at night AUDSAHDAH weirdly to say, though i am rubbing my hands to do OC yapping for day 17th

i managed to hunt down my ff.net account, sadly i do not remember the password nor the email i used ... my old password i had saved in my phone notes from literally over a decade is not the right email. with stupid ff.net needing to do a google captcha each damn time you try to log in or reset your password, its not worth it right now to go through my entire list of emails

and the problem is some of those emails got nuked by google because they were old and unused ... so if its trapped on an old email ... i may be able to figure out which one it is and what my password couldve been (cause i did not used a variety of passwords back then), i could get in and maybe see if i can swap it to a new one, but otherwise just gotta manually scrape out my old fics

edit: FUCKK IT IS ONE OF MY DELETED GMAILS ... at least i know which email it is now, theres only so many passwords i did

edit 2: FUCKKK ITS NOT ONE OF MY DELETED GMAILS WAHOO oh god 750+ emails ok i need to move this on a different email so i do not lose access to it again. this email is already compromised for spam (even tho i changed the password now)

edit 3: ok, got inside, moved to a better email, using fichub to export them as epub and zipped htmls. god these bitches are 13-14 years old. insane. why the fuck is my collection of smutfics i wrote at 14 getting 50+ faves. LMFAO. god they are so. soooo ii gyuhghhjjgjh theyre so badd theyre so badddd I DONT MEAN LIKE BAD BAD BUT ITS LIKE... WHY DID I USE THOSE WORDS. WHO USES SOFT SPLIT FRUIT I MISHBBBNGBNMBN

all you have to do at the top of your RSS feed is include this
<?xml-stylesheet href="/css/pretty-feed-v3.xml" type="text/xsl"?>

AUGHHH picking just one is hard!!!!!!!!! i guess if i really had to choose a single one, it'd be Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (the original translation, not the official english released one), mostly because i read that in literally ... like a week. 1.5 million words, insanely fixated to where i was reading it every waking moment i could, and losing hours of sleep to eating through it

it's hard to really summarize ORV aside from the fact it left a weirdly profound mark behind in me that is hard to put into proper words. ot3 on tumblr summarized it very well, even if the post is old and outdated now

some other honorary mentions include:
  • the witcher series
  • the protector of the small series
  • heaven official's blessing
  • hatchet

what was your first OC? imaginary friends count too ^_^ - [personal profile] winter_newspaper
(still open for questions!)

AUGHU its a bit hard because i've had so many ocs over the years, and even made them when i was little (4-6), but i don't have any real concrete memories

my webkinz when i was a kid also had personalities too, so those were technically "ocs" i gave stories to (to play out while recording on my shitty nokia phone LOL, a few are still on youtube under an old ass account. no im not linking them sorry im too embarrassed UAHDUASDHSA i recorded those when i was like 7-10 or something)

my first real ... hm, like it's weird cause i can have two i can technically use:
  • my self insert for kingdom hearts who was based off me, but acted more like her own character
  • my bleach oc who truly was the first "oc" i remember in full because she's been documented on deviantart, tumblr, and toyhouse
in terms of my kingdom hearts self insert i remember very little since all that information is basically nuked (gone from deviantart, scattered through notebooks and sketchbooks otherwise. i used to handwrite fanfics). she was basically also some part of organization 13 because she was shipped with roxas, but had some weird half-heart BS going on. i dont remember much else. she didn't like axel (massive F to past me, he's awesome) but basically joined the whole sea-salt ice cream trio

my bleach oc has a lot more to her, and even my old tumblr rp blogs from her are archived. she's also missing a lot of art because i lost a lot of my art/writing when i was forced to deactivate my devart account, but commissioned art and pieces survived in some way or another. she was my first full foray into the whole 'make a fandom oc that blends into the universe', partially out of fear of the whole mary sue roasting era, partially because it was fun to me to blend them in (vaguely gesturing to sylvie, and even my previous main oc initally began as a bleach oc that i ruminated on how to make him fit in)

so yeah, resu is the one i'd truly consider my first oc for the criteria of her being her own character, having art commissioned, fics written (which reminds me i need to archive my fuckass old ff.net fics i wrote for her, but i do not remember my email...), and being more solid in my memory

I wonder if Twin XL beds and related linens would be more common/popular if they were advertised as Half-Kings. Because, near as I can tell, they're literally the full length and half the width of a standard king sized bed/mattress. Push two of those suckers together, boom! King sized mattress you can fold like a sandwich or a hotdog bun.

This post brought to you by the frustration of finding sheets and mattress protectors for my Tall Single Person bed.

And so we begin Part 5 at Mood Theme in a Year!

This week's Minimum and Medium moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Maximum moods are: Full, Relieved, Crazy

Full seems like a reasonably easy one, especially if you're working from a canon that has food scenes. It pairs well with Hungry and Thirsty, really! Relieved, on the other hand, might need to be more context-heavy; I've relied on characters sighing and wiping away sweat, but depending on what you're working with, you may need to pull something from a near escape or a close shave. Crazy is... a complicated mood! Particularly politically. I tend to rely on tin hats and pinboards with articles and string, though spiral eyes are also a quick and easy go-to for this mood.

What do you think? Have you got this week's moods nailed down, or do you need to talk them over some? Do you, like me, have complicated feelings about some moods, and if so, how do you deal with them? And while I'm at it, how did your break go? Let's talk about it!

i gotta get back to my asks ive gotten but ive been in absolute brain goop these last few days ... even now i feel like sludge. to be fair part of it was staying up till 3am playing ffxiv with a friend to get her back in the swing of things, part of it is just ... a general ... sapped energy in these last few days (part of my bird is breaking my sleep at stupid hours like 7am)

maybe its in part me fixating on stuff so it silly straws away my energy, in part doing job hunting and resume updating, in part juggling other things ... sighs. man i need a week to do fuck-all nothing if i could. or just two days maybe to let myself indulge in fun things and not worry abt jobs, or book stuff, or organizing things (as much as it is soothing to me)

Yesterday we made a stir-fry with chicken thighs, 'Gypsy' peppers, half an onion, and Chinese 5 spice mix.

Today I'm making a crockpot dish with the remaining chicken thighs, more 'Gypsy' peppers, the other half of the onion, dried mushrooms, pigeon peas, several yellow pear tomatoes, and Xawaash spice mix.

Another sunset which caught our attention, not just because of the developing color, but because of the speed at which the small clouds were moving. The 2 strands of clouds over to the right hardly seemed to move at all. But we could see the small puffs speeding by.

New flapping robot swims and flies like a diving bird

Loons, gulls, puffins, and petrels are some of the 100 species of birds that can both fly and swim. These diving birds can plunge in water to swim after prey, and leap back into the air to fly away.

Inspired by these naturally aquatic aviators, engineers at MIT and EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland, have designed a robot that can swim underwater, then flap out of the water to continue flying through air, much like diving birds. The “flapping-wing aerial-aquatic vehicle,” or FAAV, weighs less than 300 grams (about half a pound) and is designed to help scientists study the mechanics that enable diving birds to fly through air and water.

The robot has a central body, or fuselage; two flexible, flapping wings; and a steerable tail. The wings and tail can be swapped out for different sizes. In experiments carried out in a water tank and at a local lake, the engineers identified combinations of wing size, flapping frequency, and tail angle that enable the robot to smoothly transition from swimming through water to breaking through the surface to flying through the air
.

I am in awe. Flapping-wing flight is extremely difficult to engineer in a machine, despite all the biological examples. That it also swims is beyond amazing.

An obsidian page showing 4 different commissions

sighs, finally moving part of my commission logs to obsidian instead of relying on Notion ... i've been wanting to rip more and more things away from Notion, and finding out obsidian's bases has a function ability to add lil emojis based off the cost/source ... is cool as hell ... still a long-term project because i have 1. many commissions i never logged payment for and i have no idea how much i paid for them 2. no idea when i commissioned Some of them

... which kinda sucks balls but this is what i get for not archiving my commissions for a decade or so LOL

The Lot

For decades, Phoenix mandated more parking than it needed. The consequences are now impossible to ignore.

Stand in a surface parking lot in Phoenix, Arizona, on a July afternoon and you are standing on one of the hottest surfaces a human body can approach without being burned.

Well that's obviously wrong. You can definitely burn yourself on blacktop in Phoenix -- and a lot of other places. Don't touch dark things in the hot sun, especially pavement or metal. I don't know if they still do this, but Death Valley rangers used to fry eggs on a car hood as a demo, and I've seen videos of frying eggs on pavement.

“When’s the last time we went on a date?”

“What are you talking about,” Dinah huffed on the other side of the line. “You take me to the most interesting places.”

“Watching you crack skulls on a blurry camera hardly...”

Barbara heard the snap of a wrist and a muffled whine. She tapped a finger on one of her wheels.

“I thought that tropical fish smuggling ring was a nice touch,” Dinah said. Barbara scoffed, vigilant as Dinah rushed to the exit. “But I’ll take you on a lunch date tomorrow.”

“Deal,” Barbara chirped. Dinah got out without a hitch.

Today is partly cloudy, muggy, and hot.

I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, plus a mourning dove.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I've seen a female cardinal.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- I picked 3 'Gypsy' peppers and 1 yellow pear tomato for tonight's crockpot dish.

I helped set up the mower.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- We walked around to look at the newly mowed south lot.

Red-winged blackbirds are singing.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- I watered the new picnic table garden. Another sunflower is opening. One of the others looks like it has multiple buds developing. Most of the volunteers there only have a single head. Single/branching is one of the divergence points you can use when developing a landrace of sunflowers with genetic diversity. I like both kinds, and they have different advantages. One head gives you a bigger flower, more and often larger seeds, but a short bloom time. Multiple heads are smaller, often with smaller seeds, but you get a considerably longer bloom time.

Fireflies are coming out. Cicadas are singing.

EDIT 7/16/26 -- I watered the telephone pole garden.

I saw several bats flying along the driveway and road. :D

I cracked 1 black plum pit, but no seed. I cracked 4 apricot pits but only got 1 good seed. I cracked the last batch of black cherry pits and got a few good seeds. Those all went in the fridge to stratify in damp sand.

Clouds are piling up to the west and northwest. I don't know if they'll amount to anything.

As it is now dark, I am done for the night.

Gender

You've probably noticed this trope:

Tertiary Sexual Characteristics
alt title(s): Put A Bow On Her Head
Wayne: So what exactly is the difference between Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man?
Noah: Well, she's got a bow on her head!
— Waynes World
Roy Knable: Boy, this is strange! [after being turned into cartoon mice]
Helen Knable: Strange? I'm a cartoon mouse wearing high-heel running shoes. The word "strange" is somewhat lacking.
— Stay Tuned
When they must assign gender to animals, inanimate objects, or even abstract concepts, writers and artists have hit upon an ingenious solution: Put A Bow On Her Head!

And here is what that kind of visual signal tends to mean in zoology...
