Welcome to Phoenix Shadows, an AU Trio-Era Harry Potter RPG taking place post-Goblet of Fire. In the wake of the Triwizard Tournament, the wizarding world has begun to change: Voldemort has returned, and though the world is decidedly skeptical despite the words of both Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter, the effect is quietly becoming known as he gathers his minions and recruits new ones.

Inside Hogwarts, Inter-house communication is being encouraged with an eye towards the future, and in the hope that interpersonal relationships will strengthen loyalties, and prevent (or at least discourage) defection to Voldemort. To that end, Dumbledore has reinstated a program first implemented in the 70’s, during the first war that of interhouse connected journals. However, the program has been updated by the use, instead, of magical computers which link together in a network called the Mystinet. Dumbledore has secured a corner of the mystinet for the use of Hogwarts students, but those outside the school may still accent public postings if they know what to look for.

Meanwhile, as the pupils carry on in relative innocence and bliss, Dumbledore has stationed Order of the Phoenix members, covertly, around the school, and all of Britain.

Maginotes - The Computers

A new magical invention catering to the wizardly curiosity about muggle devices, these slim, magically-fueled portable computers are roughly the size of a mass-market paperback, and connect to each other in an internet like fashion to form a network called the Mystinet. Anyone who has a Maginote may access the Mystinet, though it does have privacy functions.

Much like a Livejournal post, one may mark their post as Private, or filter it only to certain people. They also feature games (be imaginative, haha) and an Instant Messaging service.

The Rules

Generalities

• We are AU, but we are based in canon. Realize this going in. All that has happened in the past (the canonical Marauders details for example, as well as the first four books) form the history of this game, and we move forward from there. You are free to make your own destiny, but bear in mind where the characters began.


• Real-time roleplay is done on AIM or Yahoo or wherever you can link up. AIM is the default. The actual journals are... journals.


• Yay for british spelling, terms, slang, etc. They are, after all, British. I'm not going to get ubernazish on this, but give it a try anyway.


• No OCs are accepted on the grounds that 99% of the time they are Mary Sues, even when they don’t immediately look like Mary Sues. Not on.


• No OOC drama. Things like that need to be handled privately, and if a moderator is necessary, contact one.


• Speaking of mods, Phoenix Shadows has a strict anti-favoritism policy. If a conflict comes up between a friend of a mod's and another player, the matter will be referred to another, less biased person (mod or otherwise.)


• If you think a plot idea might screw something up, let me know and I'll tell you. However, I am a firm believer that the point of roleplaying is to govern your own character's destiny, so except in unusual cases, I don't see this popping up as a rule.


• Everyone must add everyone else to their friends list, as well as the OOC community and the main community.


• Please be prompt in communication. Don't hold everyone up. Let us know if you're going to be away.


• All members must provide contact addresses! Email, I mean, haha.


• NEVER EVER EVER make up ANYTHING concerning a character (or that affects a character or their background) without consulting the character's player. If you want someone to find out a major secret about a character? Consult the player. If you want to do a storyline that requires a character do something in particular? Consult the player. And do not be offended if the player refuses to go with your plans; everyone has their own views and goals for their own characters. If you feel a player is being unreasonably uncooperative, present your case to a mod.


• Icons must fit the character. You are free to choose whoever you'd like to portray them BUT the mods reserve the right to veto a choice that is in conflict with the character's description in canon. Also, please keep in mind who you are portraying and stay away from racy/oversexy icons that would get students expelled or professors fired. The other issue is, you cannot use movie actors for anyone but their movie character. IOW, you don't Have To use Tom Felton for Draco, but you CANNOT use him for Seamus. That would just be confusing. :P


• Slash Friendly. Slash and het have the same rules: it's okay if it doesn't contradict canon and if it makes sense. I don't want the game to be overrun by it, but as long as we're all sane it won't be a problem.


• Proper grammar, spelling, etc is, however, required unless there's a good reason otherwise. No netspeak, no smilies, no netslang.


• ABSOLUTELY NO OOC IN THE JOURNALS. All OOC comments MUST be contained to the OOC community. This includes little (()) comments after or before entries. Not allowed.


• Two posts per week requirement. However, be aware that I will be watching general posting patterns, and if you're a player who plans to come on at the last possible minute and post something slapdash, I'll notice and yell at you. :P I want dedicated players who want to be here, and be active! A generally inactive player will be removed. I’m not joking about this.


• RP logs should be posted in the OOC community.


• Anything concerning the entire community, such as IC announcements or such, should be posted in the main community. And if you've read this far and do apply, please include the phrase "Phoenix Ash" in your application.

Instantly Bootable Offenses

• Posting smut. I actually have no problem with smut, but I do want to keep this RPG open to younger people, if they're mature enough to handle it, without risking prosecution. So yeah, I don't care what you do on your own time, but don't post it, seriously. If you do a log that involves smut, please edit it out before posting the log.


• Seediness! If anything seedy is discovered about a player which might affect the RPG, or the player's conduct is disrupting the RPG, I reserve the right to boot them out.


• Mary Sueing. This counts as disruptive as far as I'm concerned.
