At 90 years and living alone since Ed passed, Grandma Hobbs fell. She had lived in Ketchum, Oklahoma. It was a “Blink and you missed it” kind of town – not big enough to be quaint. After falling, the next few days were a flurry of reservations, hesitations, and regrets. She was flying for the first time in her life to live with her daughter, Norma. Looking out the window flying above the clouds, she marveled “I can see Heaven before I have to go!” Living past 99, she passed peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face.

Welcome back, Nan. You are sure looking good.
Thanks honey – she’s your beloved Grandma! I got possession of her when we married! Ha ha ha! She was a beauty!
“I can see Heaven before I have to go”… what a positive attitude Grandma had! Sounds like she lived life to the fullest. A well-written tale.
Thank you! She did – This is Mike’s grandmother and she was wonderful. His other grandmother was a hoot to! She was from Wisconsin and had the best stories, danced, sang, and made everyone laugh too! He has a wonderful family!
How fortunate for him (and for you) that he has such a great family!
She died on the plane? How wonderful
She lived until she was 99 with her daughter, Norma. She passed away with a smile on her face though! Thanks for reading my story!
True story? Well told.
Nice hopeful story. Unavoidable change at 90 must be most distressing, so I’m glad Grandma found a way of coping.
Thank you Penny. She was very bright up until the end.
A worrying time when one starts to feel mortality creeping up. She handles the change well 🙂
Yes she did and she was a grand lady! Mike’s mother and dad were great too! Thanks for reading my story Iain!
Dear Nan,
I’m glad someone found her after she fell. Nicely done. Welcome back.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle, I am the last of my birth family – but Mike’s parents lived into their late 80’s and early 90’s.
Thank you Rochelle. Reading the comments, I noticed that there has been a tragedy in yours. I am so very sorry. Thank you for being our Leader. You are such a SMART mentor and you write so well!
That was a sweet story, Nan. All’s well that ends well – which could have turned out way worse!
Hi Dale! Thanks for reading my story. She was a fun lady!
Beautiful story. Love her perspective on seeing heaven before she gets there. It is a beautiful place, more beautiful than even seeing Earth from a plane. Love your story! ❤
Thank you so very much for reading my story. Maude Hobbs was just perfect!
That was beautifully done!

Felt like a final goodbye. Well written.
I have remembered the words she spoke for years. She was a grand lady!
A great memoir, Nan. Nice seeing you again. There comes a time when some elderly people can’t live alone and need a little help. It’s fantastic she lived so long and had a peaceful passing. 🙂 — Suzanne
She really was a wonderful grandma! Thank you for reading my story!
Aw, that was lovely, sad and bittersweet but gentle too.
Dear Laurie, I’m so glad you liked my story – it really was bittersweet! She had a wonderful Life! Thank you!
That’s a classic way to go.
Thank you Danny! She left this world, happy and content. I adored her! I’m glad you stopped by!
So glad that the change at this late time in Grandma Hobb’s life was a smooth one. You never know what’s around the corner. She fell and got to fly for the first time and enjoy living with her daughter. Lovely tale!
Thank you Brenda for reading and commenting on my story! I’m glad you liked it!
“I can see Heaven before I have to go!”,,,I just love that!
Hi Dawn! Some people really have a way with words and she did!
This reminds me of my grandmother. She fell a few times before she moved in with my aunt for her final year-ish. She even went to a baseball game once and sat in the upper deck. She always described it as sitting “up in Heaven.” She only made it to 95, though. This is nicely described.
Maude Hobbs was my husbands grandmother, she was a classy lady with a heart of gold!
Grandma Hobbs was a lucky woman. Not many can leave peacefully with a smile on their faces. After a long life, she was ready for her journey. A beautiful story.
Thank you Abhijit! Thank you for reading and commenting on my story!
