looking for new owner

Hi everyone, this is the mod of this fine community. I appear to have lost all interest in Merlin fandom so I'm looking for someone to take over the community. If you are interested, please send me a PM so we can talk. Thanks!

Picspam Meta-ish Thing

So I wrote a short picspam meta/comparison thing, comparing some dialogue between Lancelot and Gwen, and Arthur and Merlin. Has slashy overtones and pretty pictures. Basically me trying to show how Arthur/Merlin is like Lancelot/Gwen... or something. XD

It's over here at my LJ.

An Analysis of Merlin & Magic

A meta in which I examine the magic in the series, propose theories about how it works, and attempt to find ways to explain some of the inconsistencies. Contains spoilers for Seasons 1-3!

An Analysis of Merlin & Magic

candels as crowns

I think they decided at some point that a candelabra was a symbol for a crown.

In episode 2x02 (Valiant), Arthur bows his head under the weight of the crown.

In the most recent episode 3x10 (Queen of Hearts), Morgana places an unlit candelabra on the table and lights it with flame from Uther's large candle.

Thoughts?
I'm pretty excited to find this LJ.  I've been looking for an LJ where I can post my thoughts and discussions are open to a variety of topics in relation to Merlin.  So thanks for existing.  This is essentially my first post, I hope not the last.

Okay so this is my thoughts on the characterization of Morgana and Guin and their relationship in S3 this is spoiler related in comparison to my thoughts after watching it and not based solely on the spoiler.

So, this will have a bit of spoilers for those who have not seen S3, but nothing surprising for those who have or know of the spoilers for S3.

It is entirely about Morgana and Guinevere.  You will notice that I write Guinevere as either G or Guin (still pronounced Gwen).  I just prefer the Guin spelling.  And I will turn Morgana into M---if I mention Merlin it will stay Merlin.

I am not character bashing although I have been accused of it in regards to Morgana.  Enter at your own risk.

Oh note to mod..there is no--- *relationship: gwen & morgana (which this is centrally dealing with)

Hi everyone,

you may have noticed the two lovely spam posts this week. I deleted and reported the entries. I also set the community to moderated for the time being so all posts have to be approved by me. That should should cut down on the nonsense. :)

I don't know if you know Verbotene Liebe (a German soap), but there are these two characters named Christian and Olli...

and they look EXACTLY like Arthur and Merlin. No joke.

Photographic evidence here.

So for several months now, I've been meaning to do a meta-study of Gwen, but it wasn't until the Thursday before the season 2 finale aired that I was inexplicably galvanised into action. I somehow got the insane notion into my head that I could cover all of Gwen's journey through season 1 and season 2 up to 2.12, and get my predictions down for season 3 onwards, before the finale aired.

Clearly, as it's February 2nd, I vastly underestimated the task I set out for myself.

Gwen character study and story arc analysis
I just found this today via linkslinks of BERJAYAmetafandom, and while its old, I think, its never been linked here or through the merlin bbc newsletter :)

Meta: Power dynamics in Merlin slash [The Mad Lurker]
http://themadlurker.dreamwidth.org/17648.html

I was reading [personal profile] rageprufrock's latest fic, Coronation, and it brought up a lot of thoughts about the nature of slash and the reasons, or effects, of writing it instead of het.

...
And so I ask myself, does this overt removal of the female-gendered role, when accompanied by its covert reintegration, actually serve to alter the power balance between the two genders - or pseudo-genders - in fic?

I said this was sparked by reading [personal profile] rageprufrock's fic, in which Merlin takes on the "feminine role" - a fairly typical development in Merlin/Arthur slash fic. There are various indicators of this alignment, but one of the clearest seems to be the repeated comparison of his behaviour to that of a "fish wife".
