Getting Ready for our Next Art Show

both Kevin and I are hosting our first art show together

I know that I have enough art to put on another show but I always like to create some new pieces. A while back I took a photo of a random group of buttons and I had it enlarged. In my head I envisioned stitching the buttons over the photograph and then add some more stitches around the buttons. Here is the finished piece.

BERJAYA

For my last show I painted a mixed media meadow scene that was very popular and sold at the show. I decided to try another piece using similar techniques but this time I made it larger. It features sumacs in the foreground and spring flowers throughout the rest of this country landscape.

The show starts July 29 and runs till August 24 at Montgomery’s Inn.

Days 64, 65 and 66

5 Day Creative Adventure – Art of Flow

I watched day 4 of Gabbi’s Art of Flow earlier this evening. Instead of painting on a canvas I decided to start in my art journal.

On day one I activated the empty pages with writing and then covered it with water colour so that the writing would still show through.

On day two I applied marks with hand made stencils and white and black paint markers.

On day three I added more marks and shading with pencil.

On day three I added another colour with watercolour crayons.

Not sure if I’ll take this much further. Maybe I’ll try this on canvas next.

Day 14 of My Daily Art Challenge for March

….bringing you up to date

After struggling with my two larger paintings I’ve finally found a solutions that I’m happy with. Originally I wanted to do something in the colours of the Ukrainian flag but it just wasn’t working for me.

Then I decided to paint over the entire two pieces with white and blue. I kept adding more paint and again I wasn’t happy.

Finally I covered most of the paper with white and then I cut up the paper into 4 smaller pieces. I added marks to start my intuitive process and then I began to lay down colour.

I’m already starting to feel better and two of the four pieces are started.

One piece is almost done. The one below is probably 90% finished but I’m going to give it another day or so before I declare it ready for framing. It already looks quite a bit different from what you’re seeing.

Remember this is not the finished piece.

Back to the Drawing Board

….time to get serious

In June I have a solo show and I need to start producing some new art pieces. We’ve also decided to go to France in April so I really need to get my creative juices flowing. Last night I put down some colours on paper that I rarely use. Today I played around with two of them by adding ink and more paint. Not sure if these will go anywhere but it’s a start. I’m hoping to do some art every day in the month of March. Two days in and I’m heading in the right direction.

Circles in Art from the Past – October 18, 2021

….thanks to Becky B for hosting Past Squares https://beckybofwinchester.com/2021/10/18/past-squares-18/

My first attempt at abstract, many years ago, involved circles and it seems to be a shape I keep coming back to.

A Gallery of My Husband’s Art

…..Kevin only started painting again seriously last summer

Over the winter Kevin brought his paints back inside and worked on smaller pieces from his home office. He paints almost every day and some days he may do three or more paintings. Recently he started matting them and took lessons on how to photograph his work. I asked him to send me his favourite paintings. They are mostly mixed media and all are abstract. He likes to use watercolour, acrylic paints, pastels and inks.

Darker Colours – What Does This Say About My Mood?

….paid it no mind when I was making them

The last two pieces of art that I made were intuitive pieces. I just laid down colours that were in from of me and then added some detail. Normally I go for brighter colours but maybe these somber colours say something about the drama going on in our lives the last month or more.

International Handwriting Day

January 23rd was International Handwriting Day

I know I’m now a couple of days late to make this announcement but at the time I thought it was interesting. Handwriting really has become a lost art. In honour of the day I created a simple piece of art and second abstract piece.
