Hello all, I'm trying to find specific vocabulary for staircases. I'm looking at an interior staircase in a Georgian home (but the stair itself might be later.) The thing that strikes me as distinctive is that it surrounds a hall on three sides, having one landing that runs along an exterior wall. I love the look of it, and I'm trying to find vocabulary more specific than risers, balustrades, landings, which is what I tend to get when looking for glossaries.

Is there anyone here who knows enough about betting on casino table games to help me work out a few things for my novel? Table games please, not slots. Sitting at a machine stuffing coins isn't that interesting in prose and doesn't provide much room for interaction.

One scenario is that he loses big and blames another player for it. Or something else happens which is plausible for a casino and makes him mad but doesn't involve the gambling directly. I have no experience. It doesn't have to be justified anger, he's hair trigger. My one idea is that another player scatters his chips, but I'm not sold on that. Spilling drinks happens in a hotel bar five chapters earlier.

The other scenario is that someone is intentionally egging him on to bet badly. This isn't necessary, just a slightly wicked idea. It would be a later scene.

He favours simpler games as he's always drunk & high. From what I've been able to find, roulette might be the best - simple mechanism but a complex set of betting options. I could pick and choose from pages about the game but I have no idea how the flow of it might go and it would be cool to write the scene around a plausibly realistic sequence of bets. The other players know what they're doing and how to play the odds.

If you can suggest something around another simple table game, please do. I'm not attached to roulette - his eyes can go blurry watching it go round and round another time. Poker is probably too complicated, blackjack is easy and I use that for a scene where there's little detail about the gambling.

I mostly post about: I'm trying to get back into journaling after a long break. I always used to post about my life-- work, school, family and friends. I work at a library so I will probably post about books I've read. I'm currently taking classes at SNHU to get my degree in English & Creative Writing. I spend a lot of time with my friends and my sister, and I have a cat who is 17 years young. I also occupy a few fandoms that I might post about every once in a while. So yeah, the regular stuff, I suppose.

My hobbies are: READING, crochet and crafting, painting and drawing, playing video games (although I haven't made time for that in a while.) I love to watch anime and k-dramas. I'm also a big movie-goer, I like the feeling of being in a theater. I cook and try new recipes often. My first degree was in photography so I like to take pictures still.

My fandoms are: I'm not terribly focused on fandom posting although if I'm playing a game I really like, or I go to a concert or buy something fandom-related I will certainly mention it. I am big on Kpop fandoms and WWE right now. I have a life-long love of Final Fantasy games. I'm a Love and Deepspace player (although we're boycotting currently). My main anime obsessions are FMA: Brotherhood, Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Studio Ghibli movies. I love Steven Universe and Adventure Time.

I'm looking to meet people who: Are from all walks of life. I love to read and learn about other people's experiences and day-to-day lives. People who actively post and comment would be awesome. We do not have to have shared interests as long as you're open to communicate. I'm very easy-going. I started on LJ when I was 16 and posted there for years before moving here and then taking a break. During that time I made a ton of friends that I still keep in contact with. I'm hopeful and excited to meet new friends here again.

My posting schedule tends to be: Weekly or bi-weekly. 200-500 word average. I do have ADHD so I will very likely forget to post at some point, or get hyper fixated and post more often.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: 21+. I don't make a habit of talking to kids online. Please, no MAGA. AI "art" is a no go. Basically any brand of bigotry or racism will not be okay with me.

Before adding me, you should know: I practice witchcraft. I can be kind of blunt. I'm diagnosed with depression, anxiety and CPTSD but if I post anything related to mental health I will tag it so you can choose to read or not.

I mostly post about: life updates, fannish things, current reads or book reviews if I’m feeling up to it, random musings, my sweet little dog, my writing process and its longstanding rival: Writers Block. Oh yeah; might also have a bit of a giggle at life’s annoyances. I try to keep things light, but I’ll be serious when needs must -- I don’t always have the sun shining out my yeah. Mental health is an important topic for me, too.

My hobbies/interests are: writing, reading, music, thinking, fanfiction, greek mythology, poetry, etc. I don’t really play video games but I’ve a fair idea about most; Resident Evil, Dead by Daylight, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, to name a few.

My fandoms are: Stranger Things, Welcome to Night Vale, Dead Poets Society, Percy Jackson, Twilight, stuff… (my memory is SO fickle but I’m sure I have more)

I'm looking to meet people: from all walks of life as long as you are kind and have a heart. Just people to coexist with, like huddling in the grass while experiencing life :-) Shared interests are amazing but not very necessary. I read just about anything.

My posting schedule tends to be: erratic. I’ve been on DW for years and I’m only just getting back now after Life with a capital L happened. Alas, this is the part where I say, “Guess who’s back?”

When I add people, my DEALBREAKERS are: the usual. Homophobes, racists, anyone who puts their opinions above basic human rights, anyone who uses gen-ai in creative spaces, anti-feminists, all sorts of discrimination, etc etc.

Before adding me, you should know: I am very passionate about writing and everything fannish. I like writing about people being loved right, kissed right, and fucked right. I love love in all its forms and glory, irrespective of gender. I think love is beautiful and everyone deserves to be loved not just well but properly.
