Things are looking pretty blue here in the good old USA on Election Day ♥
And by blue, I mean Obama.
And by Obama, I mean not Romney.
And by not Romney, I mean a huge sigh of relief.
Honestly, I wasn't all that worried. Mom and I were talking today and said that it was going to be basically no contest. Not as much of a landslide as four years ago, but not nearly as close as everyone was pretending it was going to be.
But still - I can't help but feel a little safer. Me, my queerdom, and my ladyparts.
Title: Hurt Pairing: Sara/Joe Prompt:any, any, lovers in a dangerous time Rating: PG13 Warnings: language, mild sexuality Notes: Tiny little fill for comment_fic yesterday, where the theme was 100 words or less. I did it in 99! *fistbump* (Ahem. After paring it down from its original 117 -- ever notice how quickly words multiply?!)
So, I just read The Best Fic Ever Written over at samhain_smut: Not A Gentleman So Much As A Gentle Man. It's Neville/Ginny with a totally believable, totally adorable, totally swoon-worthy side of Seamus/Luna/Dean... um, you basically can't go wrong with that combination, but this author went so right it nearly made me cry. Neville is utterly perfect; Ginny is so fucking Ginny... their friendship is canonically impeccable and authentic and gorgeous and real... seriously. Made my heart hurt with how beautiful it is. Like a lovely, hot bath before bed. I want to tackle the author and kiss her to death.
I've got two lovely Halloween recs for you, my dears...
The first is Understandings by lore, which is my little gift drabble over at hp_halloween. It's Ginny/Luna, and it's bittersweet and gorgeous. It's only 200 words, so there's no excuse for you not to read it! *shoos you*
And the second is Wolf at the Door, the inaugural (anonymous & gen) fic at hp_darkfest. Horrifying and layered and complex and compelling, with a very genuine-feeling Percy (and you know how picky I am about my Percy!) and a Bill that will make your hair stand on end. *shivers* It's Halloween, go read it! You won't be disappointed. Mind the warnings, though it's nothing you won't find in a movie.
My mini_fest entry has been successfully rehabilitated, hahhaha... looking much better now. I'm setting it aside for another look-through, and then I'm going to call it done. Well, obviously until it gets beta'd (speaking of, anybody interested? Just a basic SPAG -- there's no way I'm changing anything major at this point, haha, and it's about 1800 words of gen.) But I'm so glad to be done with it! It also needs a title, but... I'm not going to stress over that just now. I'm going to enjoy my victory ;)
I knew I'd make use of my surprise hurricane day off :p
All is well here. It basically missed us... sort of circled around and punched everyone around us in the face, but we escaped the brunt of it. We had a little bit of rain (no flooding) and some pretty fierce winds off and on, but the damage seems to be minimal. Some debris in the road, a few power outages here and there, but nothing at all like what we were bracing for.
Irene kicked us around pretty good last year (some places around here still haven't recovered), so I think we were prepared for similar devastation. Luckily, we were spared.
Just a little south of here, however, was not so lucky. There are streets (cities!) under water, millions of people without power, and rampant destruction and chaos.
My heart is with all of you guys (who probably can't see this :p) down there.
I've had check-ins from some friends in Maryland and Virginia, who were reporting severe wind and way more rain, but nothing unbearable.
Sighing with relief and hoping for the best for everyone else ♥
Well, I was hoping for a last minute change in direction for our friend Sandy, but it looks like I'm shit out of luck. Radar map shows me right in the middle of the Apocalypse Zone, bahahaha. We're in the section of the country slated to get good and walloped. Rain starts any time now, and winds blow in at 6am.
So, my babies, this might be the last you hear from me for a few days. Or weeks. Or... I don't know, precisely, but when I'm back on the grid, I'll be back on the web!
Everyone else who's in Sandy's path - I'm crossing my fingers that this has all been overstated, and that you'll end up with your power on, a few puddles in the road, and a strong sense of relief. Stay safe, and I'll see you on the other side.
That awkward moment when you've spent six hours writing 1600 words for mini_fest, decide that your initial draft is finished, reread it.... and hate it. Literally get to the end of it and say, "Yeah? So what?"
