I watched three raccoons cross a quiet street one after another, and squeeze through or under a metal fence that really didn't look like it had a big enough gap. My Audubon Field Guide to North American Mammals says "Some young disperse in autumn; others may remain". So I suppose that was a momma and two mostly-grown, unless maybe siblings hang out together for a while? They all three looked about the same size.
