SKINATOR
Skinator is a turn-based, combat roguelite where you build a monster from the body parts of your enemies. Arrange your six body parts chain to create evolving combos, strategically break enemy limbs mid-fight to stop their attacks and customize your monster after every fight.

This game has so much potential, the character models really reminded me of how og Mortal Kombat models looked. I think if there was more of a story I would love it even more. I am definitely looking forward to full release on Steam.

hey! very cool demo, refined aestetic, personally it hits the spot. This experience feels like a vivid dream, were it inspired by a dream you had by any chance? I have added Skinator to steam wishlist immidiately. There you say "As a small team of 2, we used A.I. to generate references and some base materials." - what did you mean by that?

The original idea came about trying to create an experience similar to that old game "exquisite corpse", where several people draw different parts of a creature on a folder y papel without seeing what the other persons drew. That way you end up with a weird monster with mismatched parts. We tried to bring that into the spirit of the game and the rest of the ideas surfaces while playing with that original concept.
To answer your other question, we use it as a tool to produce sometimes references, or base materials to then paint over and edit. The final results are either completely redone by us or heavily worked over.

It's genuinely addictive, with a striking art style that suits the tone perfectly — it had me hooked from the first minute. If for some reason it's not there for you you can go play on Steam!

Hey! The final version will be too big for itch web! This demo barely fits and was a mission to cram in!

You mean you can't leave because of a bug? No right..?
I don't know if it was because of the HTML, it seems like a bug to me. You can only leave when you win a body part; otherwise, you get stuck in the spin, especially if you run out of money.

Awesome demo. I thought I would just peek in and see what it was about, but then I got hooked and just played through to the end. It was fun learning all the modifiers so I could at a glance tell which of my opponent's parts I needed to take out first.
I will say that the "speed" mechanic felt a little opaque. Maybe I just didn't notice the little wings that double speed, but it felt like sometimes the speed would increase quite dramatically between rounds.

Really good game! Only thing I have to mention is that in my experience the price range that you would get by clicking on the merchant would be way less then the prices they're actually selling. For example I would click on a merchant and it would say 1500-1600 gold, but the 3 items would be 1650, 2000, and 2200
We have had problems with that. It's time to make it show min and Max from the items it has instead of a range. Thank you for mention it. We will change that!

The art style is fucking SICK in the best way possible. The game is very fun, but there’s A LOT going on at any given time. It became stressful trying to keep up with what would happen when pressing the “fight” button.
Haha do you think we should make it so each part has only 1 modifier? Or it was stressful in a good way?
Definitely not stressful in a good way for me. Even in fights that weren’t difficult I felt like there was too much going on. Instead of settling for “this should win” I’d spend a lot of time trying to craft the perfect turn. Maybe if we start with less parts / modifiers and it ramps up slowly my brain gets used to it.

I'm Mobile and I can't even progress the game.
The Tutorial works just fine but whenever I enter a battle at the campaign,the whole game just crashes!

Hmmm. Are you playing on android? If so, is your mobile modern?
I guess the web version could be a bit heavy for mobile. This is basically a pc version running on web and mobile. We haven't properly created one that is fully optimized for mobile.

Art style reminds me of late 90's rotoscope fighters (ala Mortal Kombat, Primal Rage, etc.) with that super-bitcrushed look to them. Looks promising; hoping to see what its like at full release!
