Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Prompt Word!

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
Finding my way to quotes is sometimes a twisty-turny process. Am halfway through a Dan Brown book, reading a little here, a little there. After closing the book this morning, I somehow found myself in possession of today’s quote. We also may find ourselves meandering as we sit to write. “Pen” in hand, we begin with a single word, such as today’s prompt word. Waterfall or slow trickle, it doesn’t matter. We fill a page and somewhere amidst the syllables and consonants are words that transmute to form … a Six Sentence Sentence Story. Why? Because we’re asked each Sunday to use the prompt word provided in our next scene, story, soc or dab of poetry in exactly 6 sentences. Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop. A gathering of the most entertaining writers this side of the cosmos, who doesn’t want to escape into story-ville at least once in a while?

Rules of the hop:
Write 6 Sentences. No more. No less.
Use the current week’s prompt word.
Link up at Wednesday’s post. Link goes live at 6:00 pm through Saturday late…
Spread the word and put in a good one to your fellow writers.

PROMPT WORD:  PLAN

In an auspicious hour, read your final draft and consider faithfully every paragraph, sentence and word, blacking out where requisite. Let it lie by to drain as long as possible. At the end of that time, re-read and you should find that it will bear a second shortening. Finally, read it aloud alone and at leisure. Maybe a shade more brushwork will then indicate or impose itself. If not, praise Allah and let it go, and “when thou hast done, repent not.” – Rudyard Kipling

Simply Somewhere Else. It’s a Café 6

The Six Sentence Café & Bistro can transition from a handful of patrons to slamming busy in the blink of an eye; today was one of those days – “I got this Mimi!”

Glancing back at the young woman seated at the bar, right elbow resting on the mahogany, pastry fork in a holding pattern between plate and mouth, I yelled, “it’s a slice of cake Aurelia, as Life Decisions go…!”

Half a dozen cocktails and 10 shots later, energy in the Café leveled down to controlled chaos, I noticed three things: Nick had left without anyone noticing, Chris had yet to reappear from wherever she’d wandered off to and Frank was nowhere to be seen; judging by the size of the tip he left made me wonder if maybe he felt guilty for ducking out so mysteriously.

Hand waving wildly from the opposite end of the bar, I headed back to Aurelia, empty plate in front of her, the glass beside the plate also empty, I grinned, “you have a question, young lady?”

“Not really, Denise, just wanted you to know Hūnga left – I didn’t see exactly where he went and thought you might want to know, I mean, is anyone in charge of him?”

There was still a nervousness about Aurelia or perhaps all it was was a fear that people might find her odd; “Thanks for letting me know; Hūnga no doubt has gone looking for Mimi.”

Update: Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop Access – OPEN

To borrow from the Outer Limits – There is nothing wrong with your television set laptops and tablets. Ms. Pie alerted me late this afternoon the InLinkz link was not working. From what I’ve determined, the issue is with Inklinkz, return errors being both 505 Server Error and 502 Bad Gateway. I will continue to monitor and hopefully, the SSS link will be accessible soon!
At 8:30 PM, it’s still unavailable.

Good from the bad? I get to thank everyone again. The Six isn’t the Six without all of you.

It’s Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and another edition of Six Sentence Stories!
Alright. So I blew it. For the second time in 3 months? I’ve transported what I now know to be a house centipede. A giant ass centipede startling me from the last wisp of sleepiness before 5:30 a.m. and only now I read they’re beneficial to have in one’s house as “They are nature’s pest control.” Sure. Anyway, keep, not keep? A relatively easy decision. What’s not always necessarily easy is what to keep in a piece of writing. The main purpose of a draft is to put down some words until they beg to be released – to roam among the whiteness that was a blank page until we have a sense of where they are leading us. Today, we’re lead to Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop. Sentence by sentence, transported to our final draft, we are asked to share a story, next scene, soc or slice of poetry in exactly 6 sentences. Word count? Well, that’s where the fun begins, lol. Have at it people, Jason Statham’s got nothing on us.

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Prompt Word!

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
Approximately 2 hours, 24 minutes after official Solstice, I awakened. The sunlight pouring into the room as my eyes opened was of a quality to be felt, not described for what adjective or metaphor could suffice? Yet that is our ongoing challenge as writers. To convey in words stories and events, poetry and fleeting, fireball thoughts. In an age where verbal conversation feels as if it has succumbed to fire retardant, it is incumbent upon us to insure communication burns in our creative writing. In service of this (insert prompt word?😁), enter Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop where we are challenged to write a story, next scene or piece of poetry in exactly 6 sentences. To borrow that iconic expression for excitement and enthusiasm, “burn, baby, burn”.

PROMPT WORD:  CHARGE

Writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see in the making all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals.” – Don DeLillo

Lost and Found. It’s a Café 6

“Order up!”

The Bartender set the mug of lager on the smooth surface of the bar and eased into a ritual that earned her a mention in the city newspaper’s Dining & Drinking section in the Saturday edition.

Bending over, eyes staring down the perfectly flat mahogany, confident of a bardown, she zeroed in on a customer at half the length of the bar in the direction of the restrooms and the ill-lit hallway that lead to the Manager’s Office. White foam still trying to escape the rim of the mug, she lined up her shot. Accelerating down the bar, the Bartender called ahead, “Yo, Frank – good to see you!”

Feeling his presence before seeing him, the Bartender turned as the Gatekeeper approached the bar, a young woman walking slightly behind him, Hunga keeping step with her. Setting her dust rag down, Denise smiled – “hey batgirl, you came back!”

It’s Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and another edition of Six Sentence Stories!
This morning as I did my “rush around”, thoughts slamming around like subatomic particles inside my brain, I wondered “at what age do kids begin asking “why”. Only took a nano second because pretty much all of us know that answer. It’s at the onset of toddler-hood, of little kidness, when curiosity grips the reins. As writers, we’re fortunate to retain this childlike predisposition to ask “why”. It drives our characters and storylines, it primes the poetic faucet to begin pouring words onto the paper. A single syllable word seems to be at the root of it all in the world of creative writing. We’re here today, because this evening, the doors open to Thursday’s Six Sentence Story Blog Hop. We’re asked to write a story, next scene, soc or piece of poetry in exactly 6 sentences. Why? Because. We, are Six Sentence Stories.

Ten Things of Thankful

This is the Ten Things of Thankful Blog Hop and my speed version this summer Sunday. The sun shines which is a very good thing. Makes everything better, a little less… that. The TToT is a special blog hop. Not only does it have the capacity to lift our spirits, it can brighten someone else’s day by the simple sharing of gratitude and thanks for those people, places, events, moments that bring a smile to our faces.

  1. Rare the friendships that survive storms. I am thankful to have such treasures.
  2. Yellow Carnations in my kitchen. A month in, only now do they bow their heads.
  3. That my office at work, filled with all manner of plants brings joy to co-workers.
  4. A visit to my niece’s house. The best part? Playing with the dog. Yes, C, you know it!
  5. That I can make people laugh when I sense they are in need of it.
  6. Six Sentence Stories.
  7.  the Wakefield Doctrine.
  8. I’ve gone to the gym on my lunch 3x a week for easy a month.
  9. What? Music at number 9? (nope, not gonna make that joke 😆)

And? It’s a Lunch Girl 6.

As refresher to last Lunch Girl episode, click your mouse right… here.

*********************

Waking from a sleep I wished had been drug induced, I slipped out of bed and into a t-shirt; with a sideway glance at the body still sleeping, I headed downstairs to the kitchen for coffee and some self-flagellation.

I sauntered into the sunroom barefoot, coffee mug in hand, the aroma of freshly ground beans bringing up the rear; curling up in the Papasan chair I brought the mug to my lips and closing my eyes savored the first sip as time stood still for one brief moment. Opening my eyes, my gaze drifted to the fuchsia and white blanket draped over the back of the couch opposite to where I sat, the image of my mother suddenly jumping up from the couch announcing she’d finished crocheting the blanket as 10 year old me clapped happily in congratulations… damn, Ma, I miss you.

Too many emotions to wake up to, too many new priorities – some might ask why I was complaining which I wasn’t really, it’s just that the idea of a distant relative leaving a person an obscene amount of money in their Will is usually a tale only heard on television or from people who knew someone who knew someone – what am I getting myself into?

As if he’d read my mind, Peter stood in the doorway of the sunroom, coffee mug in hand, “May I join you?”…

I burst out laughing, “You did last night Pete, so drink up, ‘cuz then you gotta go.”

“What the hell Lizzy, don’t I have an option to stay – you called me last night!”
