A Birthday Fit For Our Queen Harley!

Image
Woo! It is such a special day here at FiveSibes homestead ~ our beautiful, super smart, sassy, and bossy alpha queen Harley is celebrating her 14th Birthday!  Our FiveSibes alpha queen "Harley Nanuk Mari" It is amazing to me that my daughter, who is married with a family of her own, was just 17 years old when we travelled in the pouring rain to bring THE most beautiful Siberian Husky puppy home! She has always been in love with the breed, and when our rescue Akita/German Shepard Chelsey was in her golden years, we opened our hearts and home to the stunning Husky puppy with such an intense mask, fulfilling not only my daughter's dream, but she would also soon become the leader of the future FiveSibes pack family, who all have added so much joy to my life! While Troy may have Helen, our Harley single-handedly was the gorgeous face that launched the FiveSibes and my love for this amazing breed. Gibson sure knew exactly what he was falling in love with when he jo...

Our Snow Queen All Aglow in the Midnight Snow on a #FiveSibes Flashback Friday

Image
Our FiveSibes Snow Queen Aglow in the Midnight Snow Woo! We are back! After a few intense setbacks, like first FiveSibesMom here taking a bad fall several weeks ago. While letting the Huskies out after a snow and ice storm, I seriously had just taken one step outside onto the deck when I slipped on black ice and landed down on the deck--Husky level, which they all thought was fabulous and assumed I was down there to play.  Unfortunately, the series of "cracks" I heard led to a fractured ankle, and a dislocated shoulder, elbow, and left knee! And, all of these injuries does not bode well for most, especially with me with already butting heads with Fibromyalgia and RA. Needless to say, I have been a hurtin' pup packed in ice with my foot booted (and it's my driving foot!) *im*patiently waiting to heal.  Then, sadly, I received some devastating news that a family member very dear to me suddenly passed away. We grew up together as close as sisters, and ...

Wolf, my resident sleepyhead Husky, looked just way too cute snoozing, so that big stuffed red frog just had to leap on over and give him some love! The look on Wolfie's face is priceless! And I sure did get a chuckle or two myself!  ;-) "A hug is worth a thousand words. A friend is worth more." ~Charles Caleb Colton YOU'RE INVITED! A Wet & Wild Wooly on a Flashback Friday!

Image
"There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart." ~ Celia Thaxter I just love this photograph of my boy Gibson enjoying himself in the sprinkler one summer some eight years past, when he was just a young wooly Husky. How I loved his beauty, his playfulness, his zest for life, and oh, that magnificent waterfall tail! Gibson's enjoying moment of cooling off in the shooting rays of water is just pure joy, and such a wonderful moment tucked away forever in my grateful-for-having-him heart. J oin Us!!! #PrayersForHarley - Dewclaw Tumor

Image
Dewclaws. Such an unnecessary evil for a dog. In August, I noticed Harley limping. At 11-and-a-half, she is a bit stiff-legged at times from arthritis, but this was a more pronounced limp and she was having an extra tough time sitting down. She seemed very uncomfortable. She was also becoming a bit snarley, especially when I was touching her paw, which is something that never typically bothers her. Upon further checking, I noticed an odd lump around her dewclaw on her right leg, thinking it was possibly a pulled dewclaw, maybe a splinter, thistle, or even a bee sting , she became extremely agitated when I touched it.    (Warning: some photos may be somewhat graphic, but I am sharing for educational purposes).   Oddity beneath the dew claw.   Off to the vet we went. At the vet, Harley is protective of her paw by hiding it . Harley's paw was shaved and it uncovered a very large inflamed area surrounding the dewclaw and beyond, as you can see in ...
