I admit to checking out the raw food movement when it first started and firmly decided that I really do prefer my food cooked when it is suppose to be cooked and raw when it should be raw. I’m simple that way.
Anyway, I saw this and the more I looked at, the more curious I became. And having all the ingredients in the house, I made it.
It’s….odd. Not in a bad way, but it is odd. When you get down to it, all chocolate is cacao and fat. And that’s what this is. It fools the eye very nicely but the tongue, yeah not so much. The dates give it an weird texture and a fairly overwhelming date ‘taste’. As for the avocado, it adds all the fat and a vegetable under taste.
Verdict: Odd, but edible. If I could not eat chocolate pudding because of food issues, this might be an okay substitute
Avocado Chocolate Pudding (aka, Chocomole!) A raw food
1 ripe avocado, pitted
6-10 dates (depending on size of dates and desired sweetness – I’m usually happy with 8 medjool dates), soaked if necessary
½ tsp vanilla
4 heaping Tbsp cocoa or 2 Tbsp. carob powder
½ cup water
Place all ingredients in a food processor (you can use a blender or Vita, but food processors work much better for this recipe) and begin blending.
Drizzle water in, stopping to scrape sides of bowl if need be, until the mixture resembles a thick, chocolate pudding. Let it continue mixing until smooth and creamy.
