Finally...

BERJAYA
I found my first Monarch Butterfly egg on some milkweed and yesterday it hatched!

Wow, I'd have to up my strength on the grocery store readers to see that one. Good eye! or eyes! Been seeing some monarch dancing around the flowers in the office garden this past week. They're around.

Oh goody, I love your caterpillar and butterfly pictures! I just found a bunch of orange dots on our milkweed, but thought maybe they were bugs since it seems so late in the summer. Maybe they're eggs afterall. Hope so.

I haven't seen any this year, but there have been some milkweed leaves chewed. There are lots of wasps all over the leaves, and I'm afraid they are laying their eggs as soon as any caterpillars emerge, and they aren't surviving. I need to research to see if there's anything that can be done about it. I do not use any insecticides, but I could see about getting some protective sleeves. I'd just have to be careful not to block the monarchs from being able to lay their eggs on them. Maybe this is a project for when I retire.
