Dear Mum and Dad,

Have you heard? Stan Shunpike was arrested yesterday! For - well, you know what! At first I thought it was a joke. He's just a pimply bloke who only harms people with his voice. You know, the bloke on the Knight Bus? You've seen him.

But, Mum, he was arrested! And Dad, Daddy, he was arrested for being involved with the Dark Lord, or some such rubbish! Do you think it's true? I mean, of course it's true that he was arrested.

My friends and I have been talking about it - we think the Ministry's wonky for doing it. They can't honestly have suspected him of being on the Dark Lord's side. Well, I don't believe it.

Do say hello to Grandma and Grandpa for me. I'm sorry, Daddy, that Mum's parents are coming over. I know how Grandma drives you mad. You have my sympathies. And I will probably have Mum's wrath when she reads this.

Give Grandma and Grandpa my love when they come next week! I'm sorry to be writing about such an odd subject, but I can't stop thinking about it.

Dear Louis,

Do you know much about Lucius Malfoy? He was on Diagon Alley when I was. I went to the Lockhart book signing, you see, at Flourish and Blotts, and Lucius was there, along with Draco. I introduced myself, at the urging of Father, and, well, he was less than warm. Draco seemed to be in a rotten mood, but I assumed it was because he was jealous of Lockhart. I didn't say anything, lest I hurt his pride, but it's what I think. Back to the point, though. Lucius seems very...odd. And mean. He scares me. He was bossing Draco around something terrible, I didn't like

Anyway. Do tell me all you know of him. All I've heard are rumours, very strong ones, but I never trust rumours.

Oh, and I've quite gotten over fancying Lockhart. The whole school is buzzing about how he let loose a bunch of Cornish Pixies in class yesterday! And he gave a quiz on himself! Mum still fancies him, but I'm over it. Now I've seen him, he seems nothing more than a fop. A very big, pink and lavender fop.

Dear Rosa,

Hello! I've been very busy this past month. I went to the Quidditch World Cup, for starters. Well, actually, my birthday party happened. Oh, it was wonderful. Lisa was there. So were Uncle Louis and Aunt Loraine. They brought Bianca, of course. She almost ruined my party.

Bianca's dog had puppies. And since Bianca couldn't bear to part with them, she was allowed to bring them. First they started ripping up my presents, then Bianca chased them away - right into the food table. So the table was turned over by the puppies, who in a fit of seeming possession, all grabbed some of the table clothe and pulled it off. The food went everywhere, mostly into the little beasts' stomachs. But Uncle Louis did a spell and the table and most of the plates and cups were put to rights. It didn't take long for Mum to prepare more food, thank goodness.

Aunt Loraine got me some silver scales for Potions, and these lovely dress robes. Bianca got me a toy Kneazle.

And Uncle Louis...he got me something quite odd. It's a crescent-shaped necklace, black, with a fine silver chain. There are these lovely blue stones around the crescent, which Louis calls 'moon stones.' They're supposed to glow during the full moon. He says it's quite a rare find. He told me, in confidence, that it's bewitched to glow when the wearer is in danger, and that if anyone else tries to wear it, it'll choke them. Imagine putting on a necklace and then being choked by it! I wonder how it knows it's not you it's choking?

And then, of course, there was the Quidditch World Cup. I shall tell you more about that later, though. I really must go to bed. Write back soon.

Dear Christine,

You are my closest, most trusted friend, right? There is something I must tell you...or rather, something I must do first. I'm so used to telling you everything before-hand. Even now, I suppose it's out of habit.

You know my parents, how they don't like to openly pick sides? I'm sick of that. A person has a right to stand up for what she believes in, does she not? It may mean some people get hurt, but who ever got what they wanted by just wishing for it, by watching? I'm done watching. And I need your support right now.

I'm going to choose a side tonight. I've been watching someone enough that I think I know how. And I have to do it. It isn't for a noble cause, I'm not turning into a bloody Gryffindor. But, well, you know what You-Know-Who did to the families that refused him in the last War. If he hadn't been, ah, tricked, by Potter, He would have won. He's a survivor, relentless, always gets what he wants. You know how much I admire that.

I'm babbling. Just wish me luck, okay? And don't tell anyone. I'll hopefully see you when I get out of Hogwarts. I'm sorry your family made you stay home. I miss you.

Dear Aunt Loraine,

Oh! I love the necklace. You know turquoise is my favourite colour! You spoil me.

I don't know if it'll go with my dress robes, but I'm still going to wear it. And guess what I heard? The Weird Sisters are supposed to perform at the Yule Ball! Tell Bianca, she'll be so jealous. She still adores them, doesn't she?

I have a date to the Ball. He's sweet, and he has good breeding, don't worry. He's a Ravenclaw. I rather like him. But we're only going to the ball, nothing after. Well, actually, I haven't decided...tell Bianca to write me, please

This necklace was just what I needed. Perhaps you can tell me its story sometime? I shall speak to Mother about visiting this summer. And of course I shall give your regards to Father, I'm sure he'll be pleased to know his sister's doing quite well. Wish me luck; the Ball's only a few days away. I'm so excited.

Dear Uncle Louis,


I need your help. I know it may sound school-girlish, but it isn't. I need your help figuring out this boy. He's my age, and he's in my House. He keeps to himself, though. But he's smart and he can be nice when you get to know him. He isn't very patient, but he's still nice.

I don't know what to do. We've always ignored each other, but I've always liked him. I've had a crush on him since First Year. I've only admired him and watched him. I've never even spoken to him. I want to, though. I want to talk to him and at least be his friend. All this ignoring is driving me mad.

He doesn't have a girlfriend. But I don't think he'd go for me. I haven't told any of my friends about this... I think they'd all laugh. I'm just so confused. And I hate sounding so girlish, but love makes you a fool nobody is perfect.

Dear Mum,


The Yule Ball was excellent! Even though I didn't go with Draco. He went with Pansy Parkinson, what a surprise. I went with a Ravenclaw boy in my year. He was an excellent dancer. Don't worry, we're not going out.

The Great Hall was beautiful. And everyone there was dressed up nicely. Even the Hufflepuffs weren't too shabby Potter went with the Gryffindor Patil twin, and his Weasley friend went with the Ravenclaw Patil twin.

But guess who Viktor Krum went with! Hermione Granger! I don't see what he sees in that girl. He could have gone with a lot better. Like me

The Hufflepuff Champion went with the Ravenclaw Seeker, Cho Chang. She's so...I don't like her. She annoys me, bu I don't know why.

The music wasn't too bad. The grounds looked pretty, too. I wore the dress robes you got me before school started, the purple ones. And I wore that black hair clip you got me. A few people said I looked nice.

I had tons of fun at the Yule Ball. Dancing, and food, good company. And I know you wanted me to write you about it, so I am. I'll write again soon. And Merry Christmas!

I really need help I'm so confused Draco was attacked! Potter did it. Draco's in the hospital. He could have died. Should I visit him? I haven't said anything to him this year. I think I might love him, or at least have a crush on him, but-


Only you can help me with this. You're a, well, a DE. And, er, maybe so am I. Did I make a mistake? I'm scared... I'm such an idiot, aren't I?

Dear Mum,

What?! No! No, you can't. You cannot take me out of Hogwarts.

I don't care if you're worried about what happened at the Ministry. I won't not come back to Hogwarts next term!

I'm fine, really I am. I'm in excellent health, I'm a decent dueler, I can take care of myself. There is no reason for you to pull me out of Hogwarts. And Draco...I can't leave Draco here. The way he's been acting since his father got sent to Azkaban is unnerving me. I want to try and be friends with him.

Lisa's here! Her parents aren't pulling her out of school! Yes, they side with Dumbledore, but bah. You know I've tried to stay on the fence. Lisa's family believes that Hogwarts is the safest place to be, because Dumbledore's here.

It might not be the safest place, Mum, but it hasn't been attacked yet, has it? No. So please, please let me come back. Don't make me leave.

I'm staying with Lisa for the summer, okay? Unless you really want me to come back home. If you do, just owl me back. I couldn't stand facing you; I've never been good at facing you when we're fighting or after we've had a fight.

P.S: I know this is odd behavior for your perfect daughter, but I can't help it. I'm not going to join You-Know-Who, period. Dumbledore is great, but it's best not to openly take a side, right? Dear Lisa,


I can't wait for you to start Hogwarts next year. It's excellent, you'll love it here.

I tried to get on the Quidditch team for my House, but I didn't make it. That stupid Draco did, though, he bought his way onto the team, plus the Slytherins have an unspoken rule that they don't allow girls.

Classes aren't that hard, I like them. Professor Snape, Head of Slytherin House, is...well, he's strict, but he favours his Slytherins.

I've made some friends here, but don't worry, I haven't forgot about you! The reason I'm writing, is because I have to pick classes for next year. We get to pick extra subjects we want to take our Third Year. There's a lot of them! Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes... Pick which ones sound good to you, will you? I want you to help me decide since you're my best friend. And your sister went to Hogwarts, she can help us too. I know you two don't get along, but it's for me, okay? I can help you with your homework if we take the same classes, eh? I'm already saving my notes for you for when you take the classes.

All right, I've got to go, dinner starts in a few minutes. I'll mail this tomorrow before breakfast, I guess. Say hello to your Mum and sister for me, okay?

Dear Mum,

Wow! The feast was amazing. I got sorted into Slytherin; are you proud? The train ride here was a bit odd. There's another Weasley attending, I saw. And guess what? Harry Potter is here!

I saw Draco here too, he's a Slytherin. You told me to keep an eye open for him, right? He looks a lot like his dad. I still don't like him

Shadow says hi. I think she likes it here, or at least the Owlery. She's eyeing the owls, I think she might try to eat them. I just hope her lovely black fur doesn't get ruined here.

Okay, I best get to bed for classes tomorrow, I want to be rested. Give Father hugs and kisses for me, will you?
