Author's note: Fusion with Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. For those not familiar with the series, it's about a world colonized by humans many generations in our future that, due to a planet-wide threat known as "Thread", genetically engineers dragons to protect the colonists before slowly backsliding into feudalism. So while it *feels* like a fantasy series, it actually does qualify as sci-fi/outer space. Still, it could've gone either way--I chose to use it for the Outerspace prompt because I have something else in mind for Fantasy.
