Setu is an offline-first peer-to-peer file sharing and local mesh application for Android. Using Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Setu transmits uncompressed original photos, 4K videos, and documents directly between nearby devices at speeds up to 80 MB/s without cellular data, cloud storage, or user accounts.

What to know before trying Setu—and where the current beta still needs real-world validation.
Setu is designed around local sharing between nearby Android devices. A compatible connection, the right device settings, and the required permissions are still necessary. Internet may be needed for the website, installation, or app updates.

Get Setu on your phone
Use one Gmail for every step.
Use the Gmail your Play Store uses. To check it: open the Play Store and tap your photo at the top right. Do these steps on your Android phone.
- Join group
Join the tester group
A Google page opens. Tap the button that says “Join group”.
If Google asks you to sign in, use the same Gmail your Play Store uses.
- Open invitation
Accept the invitation
Another Google page opens. Tap “Become a tester”.
Wait until the page says you are a tester. Then come back here.
- Open Play Store
Install Setu
The Play Store opens on Setu. Tap “Install”.
Seeing “Item not found”? Look at the help just below. It is almost always the Gmail.
Seeing “Item not found” or “not invited”?
Nothing is broken. Google is hiding the app because it does not know this Gmail is a tester yet. Check these, in order:
This is the most common reason. Open the Play Store, tap your photo at the top right, and switch to the Gmail you used in Steps 1 and 2. Then tap Step 3 again.
