fic or treat

Rules:
((This version from BERJAYAkirax2 ))
1. Comment in this thread and say, "Fic or Treat!"

2. Tell me who you're dressed as. (You don't have to actually be dressed as that person). You can be any one character from a fandom I know. If I'm not familiar with your character I might--or might not--ask you for a different one. You can be dressed as the same character as someone else, but try to give it a bit of variety if you can (i.e. specify a different version of your character).

3. On October 31st, you'll get a treat! It might be an icon, a song recommendation, maybe even an actual fic or anything else I can think of! Hopefully with a Halloween spin.

Fandom: DC Comics
Characters: Tim Drake, Cissie King-Jones, Conner Luthor and assorted others
Rating: Teen

Summary: Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and Queen Industries are all vying to win a high-stakes business deal and are sending in their best representatives--Tim Drake, Conner Luthor and Cissie King-Jones. While their fathers can hardly stand each other, they have managed to become friends outside the boardroom. The week before they are to face off for the deal, Wayne Enterprises and Queen Industries are broken into by someone dressed as Arrowette. When Conner knows too many details about Cissie's business proposal, Tim and Cissie begin to wonder if he isn't following in his father's footsteps after all. But that still doesn't explain who Arrowette is or why someone would frame Cissie.

Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect.

Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

20th-Apr-2008 02:14 pm - Five things...
[DC] Tim: Smarter Than You
For BERJAYAlady_sarai, as promised:

Five Times Tim Considered Quitting Being Robin/Kestrel:

1) His sixteenth birthday, when Bruce put him through that "test." When Sadie became Robin, Tim told Bruce that she would get such a test over his dead body. Fortunately, Alfred, Dick and--surprisingly--Jason all agreed.

2) When Bruce's files on the Justice League came to light. Tim had known about them, of course, but he had never expected that it would affect his relationship with Young Justice until it did. He wondered then if being Batman's apprentice was such a great idea.

3) When the Titans came back from the future with the knowledge of what they could become. Tim looked really hard at the Robin suit after that, and wondered if it was worth it.

4) The time everyone thought he died. Seeing the looks on their faces, he wondered if it was fair to keep doing the job that put him at such risk every night.

5) The day Sadie was born. He thought about quitting so that he would be there to watch her grow up.

...And I'm still working on the other one, but does anyone else have any requests? I do DC, Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, (some) X-Men... if you don't know, ask me.
8th-Jan-2008 09:56 pm - Yuletide and JBBS
[Spider-Man] So Good
So, I participated in both Yuletide and the Jinge Bells, Batman Smells fic exchanges, which--let me tell you--made for an interesting December oh... 15-20th, when it got to be crunch time for both exchanges. Which is neither here nor there. Because the point of this entry is to share the awesome fics I recieved this year through these exchanges!

First, the Yuletide fics! (I was so spoiled this year)

String Theory by par_avion, my wonderful, delightful Yuletide author. A lovely fic about Aly and George from Tamora Pierce's Tortall books. Takes place shortly after Trickster's Queen, and is a wonderful look at their interesting father-daughter dynamic. A really great read--especially if you love Aly and George as much as I do.

Letters from Rajmuat by glass_icarus--A Yuletide Treat! Another take on ALy and George (did I mention how spoiled I was?). Comprised entirely of correspondence from Aly to George--and a really great handle on Aly's voice. I love letter!fic.

My Throne I Resign by Dien. Another Yuletide Treat, but this one is a drabble on Aerin and Luthe from Robin McKinley's Damar books. It's wonderful and hurts in all the right places. It reads like an excerpt from Ms. McKinley's own pages.

Memory's Joy by Merfilly--a NYR 2008 fic! For me! Batman TAS's Dick looks back on one of the defining moments of his and Bruce's relationship. A wonderful, feel-good father-son piece which set me into fits of joy this afternoon when I got the notification.

A Ticket Out--Being... my Yuletide offering. :-P A Blade Trinity fic about Abby and King. King is a vampire who wants to die. Abby offers to rectify the situation.

And now for the JBBS fics (a shorter list, I promise!):

Tim Remembers by BERJAYAmuseofspeed--written for BERJAYAlady_sarai and I! Follows Tim-Robin's relationships with his Young Justice teammates over the years. A very happy, light-hearted fic.

Operation: Christmas Spirit--being BERJAYAlady_sarai and my Yuletide offering for Kate. Bart decides Tim works too hard and needs some holiday cheer. He brings Cissie along for reinforcement, but Tim is working.

::whew!:: And I think that is all. It's been a good year for fic-gifts. Also--BERJAYAangel_gidget, don't despair! I am working on a fic for you, and I'm hoping to get it done soon, but it's going slower than expected, and also acquiring trace amounts of plot. But--I bring you a teaser!

Cut for short excerpt from as-yet-untitled Tiny Tim ficCollapse )

[DC] Tim Thinking
Name five characters who should die, or should have died sooner.

Oh, LJ, you have answered my prayers, and this may be all DC... [Huh! Guess not!]

1) Jason Todd--DC Comics - Do I really have to explain this? He was dead. The *fans* voted him dead. Not by a great margin, no, but even the fans hated Jason Todd. WHY does he live again in all his wangsty glory? I hope he dies in the upcoming Final Crisis. Morrison--please, for the love of all that is good and holy--hear my plea. Kill Jason--again--and leave Bruce alone. Because if you kill Bruce, you will see how quickly I drop all of my Bat-titles.

2) Damian Wayne--DC Comics - Again is an explanation really necessary? Nightwing, all of the readers are asking the same thing you are asking yourself--why are you trying to save this ungrateful little shit? I know that you Bats always feel like you've failed if someone dies on your watch, but no one will blame you. Just this once--let the little turd die. Ra's will have a new body, and you will have a way more awesome bad guy to deal with than that spoiled fucking child.

3) Arthur Weasley--Harry Potter - It's complicated. I *liked* Arthur, but he was the one that JKR saved, and had 2 other characters die instead. Which two, you ask? Tonks and Lupin, of course. My FAVORITE CHARACTERS IN ALL SEVEN BOOKS. So... I wish Arthur had died instead. I know, it's cold.

4) Sirius Black--Harry Potter - Should have died sooner. By the end of OotP, he was this whinging spoiled brat. I get that he never really had the chance to grow up, but it doesn't change that Harry needed him to be a grown up, and he wasn't. And he never got that Harry was not James, which I hated.

5) Susan Pevensie--Narnia - I wish she had died with her brothers and sister and parents. I wish she could have been with them that last time in Narnia, and then with them in heaven. It would have been a happier ending for me.

24th-Aug-2007 11:13 pm - Yay, Fannish Five!
[Rent] Not Alone
And today's question is:

What are your five favorite canonical friendships?

1) Mark, Roger, and Collins (Rent): I am firmly in the camp that does not make boyslash out of these guys. I love their friendship, with all its snark and underlying love. They make me want to squish them and snuggle them and call them George.

2) Superboy and Robin (DCU): The banter between these two is always entertaining, and who can resist a friendship that began over Poison Ivy, pheromones, and a ring made out of Green K?

3) Robin and Raven (Animated Titans): Season Four--which I fondly refer to as the Raven Season--really spotlights interaction between these two, and makes it probably my favorite friendship in the series. Also one of my favorite friendships in general.

4) The Founders (Harry Potter): Never were there such friends as these, the Sorting Hat says, so it's canon! :-P I especially like the fact that J.K. Rowling says almost nothing about them aside from this, so I am free to use my imagination as to how these lot became friends. It makes me happy.

5) Elphaba and G(a)linda (Wicked, especially the musical): The end of that show gets me every damn time, and not because Elphaba gets the guy. Watching the two of them say goodbye forever to a friendship that has meant so much just *breaks* me. ::weeps::

And in other news, it's about a million degrees, and I have to work tomorrow morning. This makes me sad. But I have a fan pointing at me, and this is a source of joy, so my emotional equilibrium is unchanged. :-D
10th-Aug-2007 08:39 pm - Fannish Five!
[DC] Tim: Smarter Than You
Name five of the funniest lines of dialogue.

1) From All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder (written by Frank Miller, who I'm not wild about as a Batman writer, but this was funny):

Dick Grayson: So what do you call this thing, anyway?
The Goddamn Batman (looking badass): The Batmobile
Dick Grayson (rolling his eyes): That is totally queer.
The Goddamn Batman (looking pissed): Shut up.

2) From Young Justice (which is almost universally very funny), in the No Man's Land special:

Superboy: Let me get this straight. Gotham City *needs* help, but *you're* sidelined, right? No Robins allowed?
Robin: Yeah. That about sums it up.
Superboy: But Batman never said anything about your *teammates,* right? Never a mention of *Young Justice* steering clear of Gotham or you'd be waxing the Batmobile?
Robin: Not in so many words.
Superboy and Impulse: LOOPHOLE!
Robin: What do you *mean,* loophole? Guys? GUYS!!
Superboy and Impulse: ROAD TRIP!

3) From Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (I laughed out loud reading this):

Ron: Why does my room have to be cleaned out? Harry and I are fine with it the way it is!
Mrs. Weasley: We are holding your brother's wedding here in a few days' time, young man--
Ron: And are they getting married in my bedroom? No! So why in the name of Merlin's saggy left--

4) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (and I honestly have a hard time picking just one thing from this, but DAMN, it was funny):

Jay: Why do they call you Cock-Knocker?
The Cock-Knocker: Funny story about that, true story, too-- ::WHAM, The Cock-Knocker slams Jay in the nuts with his oversized fist of Cock-Knocking::

Jay: And for one more record, he *loves* the cock. (I really couldn't pick just one thing from this. I found the movie very funny, if REALLY terrible)

5) From Teen Titans (the animated series):

All of the Titans: ::are wearing Robin costumes::
Starfire: Do you desire another slice of the cheese, Robin?
Beast Boy: Thanks, Robin. ::slides box to Cyborg:: Got room for another one, Robin?
Cyborg: Don't mind if I do, Robin.
Raven: You know Robins, I have to admit. The mask makes me feel cool.
Robin (who was behind Raven as she said this): Huh. Pizza. Sweet. ::sits down and grabs a piece of pizza. Looks cool:: You know, Robins, the mask makes me feel cool, too.
3rd-Aug-2007 04:16 pm - Today's Fannish Five...
[DC] Sad Tim
In answer to the question...

What five character deaths affected you the most?

1) Bart Allen (aka Impulse/Kid Flash/The Flash): Honestly, I don't care all that much about the speedsters, but this is Bart. Bart who was way cute in Young Justice (and in his own title), who was painfully eager to please in Teen Titans, and who--as The Flash--liked to run fast and help people. I was heartbroken that they killed him. So much so, that I considered buying Countdown 42--despite the dreadful art--so that I could have the issue that showed his funeral. And I don't care that they brought Wally back. I liked Bart better.

2) Jean Grey (aka Marvel Girl/Phoenix): The most recent death--the one in 2005. I was so affected, in fact, that I stopped buying X-Men comics once I realized that they weren't bringing her back right away. She was my favorite character, and when they got rid of her (and put Cyclops with EMMA FROST, of all people), I lost my interest in the series.

3) Angel Dumott Schunard: The "heart" of the Rent family. No matter how many times I see Rent, I always cry when Angel dies. It's pathetic. I start crying during "Without You" and I don't really stop until after the finale. With the minor exception of "What You Own," but who can cry during an inspirational song like that?

4) Cedric Diggory: The first Harry Potter death. I was shocked that J. K. Rowling had killed this fairly benign, charming character. These were kids' books, for cryin' out loud! I thought the bad guy was supposed to be the one that kicked it.

Deathly Hallows spoiler, and is there anyone reading this that *hasn't* read Deathly Hallows yet?Collapse )
