Hi, yuletide buddy! I don't think I will be able to read my fic right away, but def. at some point before reveal! Thank you so much! BIG HUGS.

His whole essay for Sports Illustrated was wonderful; I loved it and I'm so glad and grateful that he wrote it and shared it with the world.

"The most you can do is stand up for what you believe in. I'm much happier since coming out to my friends and family. Being genuine and honest makes me happy."

"basketball is a family."

HELL YEAH! I've already read some kind and supportive quotes from current NBA players and I hope there will be many more.

Happy Valentine's day!!!

Venus Transiens

Tell me,
Was Venus more beautiful
Than you are,
When she topped
The crinkled waves
Drifting shoreward,
On her plaited shell?
Was Botticelli's vision
Fairer than mine;
And were the painted rosebuds
He tossed his lady,
Of better worth
Than the words I blow about you
To cover your too great loveliness
As with a gauze
Of misted silver?

For me,
You stand poised
In the blue and buoyant air,
Cinctured by bright winds,
Treading the sunlight.
And the waves which precede you
Ripple and stir
The sands at my feet.

1. Darkness on the Edge of Town (Song)
I love this song, and I would love to read your take on it! Some things I am especially curious about are: whether or not the woman in Fairview and the narrator's former wife are the same person, the narrator's audience, and the differences between the narrator's old and new lives. Or maybe telling the story from the p.o.v. of one of the other characters?
F/F, F/M, and M/M all work for me, so please do whatever you'd like re: character genders and pairing!
Thank you!

2. What Jail Is Like (Song)
I've always been fascinated by these lines from "What Jail Is Like":
"I'll tell you a secret
They shared a needle once or twice
I loved her, she loved me
We slept together a couple of times"
I would love to know what story it suggests to you!
F/F, F/M, and M/M all work for me, so please do whatever you'd like re: character genders and pairing!
Thank you!

Or, what happens when she goes out into the world...can we be invited along on her adventures?!?
Thank you!

I posted 20 fics at the ao3 last year: 7 in Nikita, 2 each in Supernatural and Entourage, and single stories in Ringer, Harry Potter, House, NBA rpf, My So-Called Life, Young Adult, Bram Stoker's Dracula, 3:10 to Yuma, and Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock".

I've noticed the local hip-hop stations have been playing Drake and Nicki's "Moment 4 Life" a lot recently, which certainly seems to fit with a carpe diem attitude regarding New Year's, so...
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Best wishes to "feel so alive" for the rest of 2012 and continuing on to 2013!

I was SO PSYCHED to receive fic for Springsteen's song "Darkness On the Edge of Town" as my awesome yuletide story.

The story is called "The Boundary" and it lives here:
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/587818

It features a meeting between the narrators of "Darkness On the Edge of Town" AND "The Promised Land"...double the Bruce! I don't want to give too much away, the mystery being part of the fun, so I will just say that it explores the possibility that there's something lurking out by Abram's bridge, and how both characters deal with that.

I hope you enjoyed yr slice, too!

A couple weeks ago was the anniversary of the death of a much loved friend of mine. I was sitting outside in the afternoon, thinking of him, when my friend M arrived. I got into her car and "Keep Ya Head Up" was playing on a local hip hop station. I just sat back and soaked the song and the sun in.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, 2PAC!!!!

"I move like I'm in a dream world. Most people move with boundaries. But if you're in a dream you don't have those boundaries. I speak and I talk like there aren't boundaries holding me back. How about I'm going to do what I feel."

"To have something and quit on it and to think, "Damn, I didn't even try," that's very hard for me. I'd rather try hard and fail. The real failure's never trying...For me, giving up's way harder than trying."

Happy 35th birthday, Kanye West!

Wow, I had no expectations heading into the “House” series finale and I dug it!

spoilers for House (and Sherlock, kinda)Collapse )

And, as a Bulls fan, I gotta make note of the following quote!
"Omar Epps...agreed that it’s the right time for House to call it quits. "It’s like Jordan hitting the last shot on Bryon Russell""

I was (and am) so disappointed that amendment 1 passed in NC yesterday, but I am very happy that today President Obama is saying he personally supports marriage equality (he also went on record in mid-March as opposing the amendment).

""It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married," Obama said in an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts."
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/09/us-usa-campaign-obama-gaymarriage-idUSBRE84818Y20120509

NC Attorney General Roy Cooper on amendment 1:
"Amending our constitution demands careful deliberation along with precise language - both are missing here."
http://www.indyweek.com/citizen/archives/2012/04/25/attorney-general-amendment-1-unclear-unwise-and-unnecessary

Which may help explain why:
"even with just 24 hours until election day only 46% of voters realize the proposal bans both gay marriage and civil unions. Those informed voters oppose the amendment by a 61-37 margin but there may not be enough time left to get the rest of the electorate up to speed."

NBA regular season finished yesterday and playoffs (season 2!) begin tomorrow so right now I'm kinda enjoying that "everyone's back to 0-0, anything could happen" lull.

(But I really wish the league hadn't tried to cram so many games into this lockout shortened season. Seeing so many injuries was depressing and a lot of players have talked about how fatigued they are.)

Future probably wasn't picturing Alex & Nikita when he rapped the line "Two bad (chicks) at the same damn time" but I think of them every time I hear that song!

Tonight's episode of Ringer?
Jaime Murray is gorgeous.
Swoon!

I am virtually certain that if anyone else sang "Starships" I wouldn't be feeling it but when Nicki Minaj tells me to dance I very happily shake my ass.

It seemed kinda appropriate that tnt showed SPN's "it's a terrible life" ep yesterday morning, since both UNC (where Dean Smith coached) and Kansas (where he played) won tournament games Friday!

rambling round the internet:
"CW switches to next-day streams for episodes of prime-time series...releasing its shows just a few hours after their TV broadcast (at 3 a.m. Pacific time)"

"Despite her reputation as a promising young actress, Lawrence said her career hit a speed bump after "Winter's Bone." She had trouble landing auditions for more feminine characters, so to shake up her image, the actress posed in a skimpy bikini for a well-orchestrated photo shoot in Esquire magazine.
"There's just no imagination" in Hollywood, she said. "I wanted to show people 'Winter's Bone' for the performance, but it ended up having the opposite effect. People were like, no, she's not feminine, she's not sexual."
Lawrence endured a good heap of criticism for what many saw as an exploitative play, but it worked. "A lot of people said, 'Oh, now we have a great actress come along and she's showing her boobs.' But that's exactly what I had to do so I could keep working. Honestly, that photo shoot is what helped me get 'X-Men,'" she said, referring to the comic-book blockbuster"X-Men: First Class"in which she played the sexy mutant Mystique."
