IA Senate GOP just passed SF2412 giving immunity to pesticide manufacturers if sued for causing cancer. The bill was written by Bayer, maker of Roundup (linked to lymphoma). IA would be the 1st to give immunity to pesticide makers. IA has the nation’s 2nd highest cancer rate.

In Jan I’ll be calling for a hearing on why IA is the only state in the US w a rising cancer rate. It’s a public health threat that deserves state action. If the threat is in our water, I hope concern for every Iowan rises above that of special interests.

Even Colbert is laughing at the Iowa GOP’s child labor bill. But Republicans are being quite logical here: If you’re taking away food stamps and health insurance from poor families, it only makes sense to let the kids work 6-hr shifts in the factory to make up the difference.

The Iowa Senate has voted to send a transgender sports ban to @IAGovernor Kim Reynolds. The vote was 31-17. The bill prohibits transgender girls from participating in girls’ sports in K-12, community colleges and colleges and universities. #ialegis @IowaPublicRadio

Iowa, it’s ok to be better than Florida and not copy every dumb law that they pass. SSB 3006 would allow doctors to refuse providing any medical treatment if it’s against their “conscience”. Life or well-being of the patient be damned. Some repercussions:

Still hot off the press, the Iowa GOP’s massive education bill is being rushed through the Iowa House this evening (unread by most) with debate limited to 6:30pm so that legislators can get to Drake and Iowa State basketball games. 2 bball games vs a half million kids.

The IA GOP continues to advance a bill (HSB 737) that gives legal protections to pesticide companies accused of causing cancer. This comes while Iowa battles the fasting rising cancer rates in the US. Suspicious? If you follow the $$$, guess where it goes.

New IA Cancer Registry report finds Iowa continues to have the 2nd highest cancer rate in the US & the FASTEST RISING CANCER RATE in the country. HF 2339 went to the IA House Appropriations Committee to invest $2M in cancer epidemiology to identify the causes. We need YES votes.
