Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information PhilosophyProfessor.com collects, why, and what choices you have. PhilosophyProfessor.com is an independent reference site that publishes explanatory articles about philosophers and philosophical ideas. We do not sell products, run user accounts, or build marketing profiles. The data we touch is the minimum needed to run a content website, serve advertising, and answer the occasional message.

Who we are
PhilosophyProfessor.com ("we", "us", "the site") is an independent online encyclopaedia of philosophy edited by Carlos Esteban. The site is reachable at https://www.philosophyprofessor.com. For any privacy question you can write to us through the contact page.
What information we collect
We collect very little, and most of it is collected automatically by standard web infrastructure rather than entered by you:
- Information you give us: if you send a message through the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message text you type in. That is the only form on the site.
- Technical log data: like nearly every website, our servers and our content-delivery network record requests automatically — IP address, browser type, referring page, the page requested, and a timestamp. This is used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic statistics.
- Analytics and advertising data: third-party services (see below) set cookies or read device identifiers to measure traffic and to show advertising. We describe these in the Cookie Policy.
We do not ask for or store payment details, we do not run visitor accounts, and we do not knowingly build advertising profiles ourselves.
The contact form
Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to the site editor by email and may be retained so we can follow up. We use this information only to reply to you and to improve the site. We do not add you to a mailing list (we do not run one) and we do not pass your message to third parties for marketing.
Hosting, delivery and security
The site is hosted on managed WordPress hosting and served through Cloudflare, a content-delivery and security network. Cloudflare processes requests on our behalf to protect the site against attacks and to speed up delivery; in doing so it temporarily processes technical data such as your IP address. See Cloudflare's own privacy documentation for details.
Advertising
We display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can review further options at aboutads.info and Your Online Choices (EU).
Affiliate links
Some articles contain affiliate links to Amazon. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This involves a tracking identifier in the link but does not give us access to your Amazon account or your purchase details beyond the aggregate commission reports Amazon provides. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
Analytics
We measure traffic in aggregate using tools such as Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, a privacy-light on-site statistics plugin, and, where enabled, Google Analytics. These tools tell us which pages are read and how visitors find us. We look at trends and totals, not individuals.
Third-party services we use
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security.
- Google AdSense — advertising.
- Google (Search Console / Analytics) and Bing Webmaster Tools — traffic measurement.
- Amazon — affiliate programme.
Each of these processes data under its own privacy policy. We do not control their practices and encourage you to read them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data a site holds about you, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent for cookies. Because we hold almost no personal data ourselves (essentially only contact-form messages), most requests will concern the third-party services above, which you can also contact directly. To exercise any right with us, write through the contact page and we will respond.
Data retention
Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Server and CDN logs are short-lived and rotated automatically. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the third parties' own schedules.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience interested in philosophy. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The "last updated" date above shows the current version. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
