I am currently looking for recommendations of good books or good reads on the net about the history of magical practices in Iceland, Scotland, and Germany. Since this is my bloodline, I'm wanting to investigate.
Well, first off, after spending the ENTIRE summer on medications trying to get myself safe enough for surgery, looks like my hysterectomy will be on October 5th.
For those who've missed the updates, I'm 34 and over Memorial Day weekend, I went into the ER in massive pain, only to discover my uterus is full of tumors. Literally pounds of them. So much in fact, I was unsafe for surgery. I have over $10,000 in hospital bills and trying to raise the final $600 I need for surgery. (Of a total of $2,600 total.)
I've been on UNPAID medical leave this whole time (my last paycheck was June 3rd) so trying to pay my regular bills has been a challenge, let alone raising EXTRA money for surgery.
So here's a look at what's new in my shop. Sales help me with living expenses, medical bills and surgery costs. All the info can be found here.
Even if you can't buy something, just passing on the link in your twitter, facebook, blog, etc. is greatly appreciated!
Hi everyone. I'm new here. I thought it may be of interest if I posted a couple of images from my photography series "Earth Magic." They are prints from wet plate collodion negatives.
I'm a student moving away to university soon and I desperately need money, but I'm also looking to de-clutter my life and help myself live up to the more Nomadic lifestyle ideals I've always admired. What that really translates into, of course, is a sale. So. Though it does hurt me, I'm parting ways with the things I no longer need. Please take a look if you can spare a moment!
STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. I will ship to the US and Canada. 2. I can't cover the cost of shipping, but I can promise to make it as cheap for you as possible (unless you ask me not to)! 3. I have a camera, but it is incredibly broken. If you absolutely need a photograph of anything, I will do my best, but in all honesty it will probably not be very good at all. I recommend Aeclectic if you'd like to see any of my Tarot decks closely. :) 4. To order, ask a question, or just tell me I'm pretty ( ;D ) send me a message on LJ, or e-mail me at yummybish AT gmail DOT com.
I will include a little incense grab-bag with every purchase just to say thank you! If there's any scents you absolutely can't stand, tell me and I'll make sure not to include them. :)
**Any purchase of $50 or more will get some sort of special bonus!**
Memorial Day Weekend I went into the ER after two days of non-stop severe pain. Many tests and an overnight stay later, it turns out that my uterus is full of tumors.I have multiple softball and multiple baseball sized fibroid tumors and equally large cysts. The total mass is approximately the size of a basketball.
I was on a fast-track for a hysterectomy when my OB/GYN discovered that it was worse then initially believed and I'm too high risk for surgery. High risk is 250 grams of tumors. I'm at over 1,200 grams. I am now on a shot to induce medical menopause in order to attempt to shrink the tumors prior to surgery. The larger the tumors, the more complicated and lengthy the surgery, the more time I will be under anesthesia, the more complications and blood transfusions I will need. So we're trying to get them shrunk at least half.
I work a part-time job that does NOT give me insurance. I also do NOT get paid for any time off period. So I’m already out two weeks of pay with many more to come. (When I do have surgery, I'll be out 4 weeks in unpaid recovery as well.) I have already applied for and been denied financial and medical assistance by the state. I’m asking anyone who can help for your support as a result.
I need a total of $2,600 just to pay my OB/GYN, $1,400 of which must be up front before the surgery. This does NOT include the hospital, anesthesiologist, radiology, etc. It also does NOT include the fees for the office visits and tests pre-op. (I’ve already spend $463 on those as of June 7th)
My friends are also helping me set up a second shop full of donated items. You can find that here: http://PhoenixFunds.etsy.com/
If you could look around and see if there's something you'd like to buy, pass on my links, donate a hand crafted item, craft supplies or a vintage item for the fundraiser shop or make a donation - any of it would be helpful and appreciated. The more people pass on my information, links and story, the more I can hopefully raise the funds I need.
A bird's nest has a lot of symbolic meaning including protection of the young and nurturing new generation and life. A nest is a home and a shelter and a Mother bird dedicates herself to the protection of her precious eggs. This process is celebrated in this piece.
Sterling silver plated wire that is treated to prevent tarnishing is woven to form the nest shape and glass pearls in your choice of color(s) are nestled safely within.
You can choose between 2 and 4 pearl colors in any combination you would like. The first example shows April, May and August and represents my sister, myself and my Mom. The second is a customer's selection and features March, April, October and December.
Ideas for choice? Children's birthstones, grandkids, siblings, parents, friends - any combination that is special to you. Would even make a remembrance or memorial piece for loved ones who have passed.
Plus, your order ships for only $1 in the US!
*Please Note: As glass pearls are completely man-man, they are 100% vegetarian/vegan friendly and a great alternative for those who prefer cruelty-free jewelry options.

I'm into astrology and stuff like that and I was wondering if signs are associated with either the sun or the moon. Not as in your sun sign and moon sign type of deal but if each sign is more attracted to the sun or the moon kind of deal.
It seems appropriate to discuss the movie Avatar given the nature of goddess worship, one-ness of nature and spirits depicted in the movie along with various community and other themes.
Frankly, I was preparing myself to be disappointed having read briefly a few newspaper reviews. Instead, I was blown away by the depictions, thought and history that was taken into account writing the screenplay alone. It is obvious James Cameron (writer, director et al.) studied Joseph Campbell's "Power of Myth" and anthropology along with history while creating this gorgeous work of visual art. Yes, other things could have been done differently but WOW, this is a HUGE commercial, massive work bringing so many different concepts and contexts to the world masses. How other to do it beyond in a Sci-Fi or some kind of Fantasy work? It certainly wouldn't receive the recognition sadly, if transmitted via other channels from history to documentary, biography to even science.
Basic question - why the hell isn't anybody talking about it/this, this way in the spiritual realm? Is it just another grave omission of the media purposely ignoring major stories? All i'm seeing in the mainstream media is the discussion of how much money it is making, ($1.6B current worldwide count) people becoming depressed and getting headaches due to the 3D effects and of course, a brief mention in my political blogs (not in the MSM) about the obvious parallels of the USA in multiple foreign wars. (Ask the Iraqi's if they still want us there and most of Afghanistan, Pakistan and even Japan now who is trying to force the US military bases to close getting off it's native land!)
So for anyone who has seen the film - thoughts/opinions/likes/dislikes? intelligent discussion preferred please. My only concern is that the goddess was depicted as ONE god = monotheist. There were spirits but only one god.
Bonus points that it/she was at least female. Yahoo Gaia! ;-)
Hello everyone. I'm nearly fifteen, and this isn't the first time I've been interested in witchcraft. When I was 12 I bought a book (which my mother somehow found and took away from me a month after I bought it). But I'm starting to become interested in it again, and I have a few questions that might seem stupid, so.. sorry if they are.
Is witchcraft really as dangerous and sinister as people say? Do you need to be fully committed to it all the time?
If I decide to get into witchcraft, what are some things I should expect/do?
What books can you recommend to someone new to witchcraft--just to let me learn a little more about it and all that.
Any personal experiences you think I should know about?
Once again, sorry if these are dumb questions, and thanks if you decide to help me out.
I love books and I love building my witchy library up. I've been sitting on an Amazon gift certificate for few months and haven't gotten anything with it. Now school is out for the summer I am ready to read for fun again.
I consider myself to be a hearthy, kitchen, Celtic witch. I was wondering if there are any books I should add to my collection. As for pagan, etc. authors I love Ann Moura (Aoumiel), Ellen Dugan, Edain McCoy, Kate West, the Farrars, and Scott Cuningham. Are there any authors or books I am looking over?
I am also sick of reading Witchcraft 101 books. as I call them, is there anything 'advanced' out there.
I was thinking about investing in Judika Illes' "The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft: The Complete A-Z for the Entire Magical Word". My best friend has the "Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells" and she Loves it as do I. Thoughts?
I've crossed posted, so sorry if you see it a few times!
I went to a crystal workshop at the local pagan moot last night, and bought a pendulum which worked for me. And as usual, I have woken up the next morning, after having processed the information, with questions. I hoe someone can help me with them.
I managed to get distinctive yea and no readings from the pendulum when I asked it questions. What I'm looking to know if where these answers come from and how the pendulum works.
Sorry if I sound naive, but I figure no question is a silly question when you want to learn :)
I was going to purchase some books about Wicca, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to what would be best. Right now I'm a solitary practitioner, and I'm currently reading "Wicca: A Guide For the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. Which I do find quite helpful.
I've also heard that "The Circle Within" by Dianne Sylvan is good too. I was going to purchase them using Amazon.com, and I saw there were a few cheap ones (ones that I haven't mentioned) and wondering if they were any good.
One that I saw for really really cheap is "The Craft - A Witch's Book of Shadows" by Dorothy Morrison. But I don't want to buy it unless I know it's worth getting.
Again, I'm very new to the craft...I tried reading "The Witches' Craft" by Raven Grimassi, and I was really confused...lol :-P
-------------------------
TL;DR -- Does anyone know of any good books for a solitary practitioner?
(Also, sorry if this is a repeat post in other communities!! :D )
I know I don't post here often (or at all, really; I'm more curious in other peoples' entries), but recently, I've felt an urge to up my magickal education (took a WONDERFUL trip to "St. Augustine's" near where I live in Chicago, which sells all SORTS of goodies for EVERY religious view, specializing in supplies for spells and altars; p.s., their altar to the Goddess was inspiring me to work on my one at home!).
Any recommendations on books about witchcraft, neopaganism, spellcasting, or any of their sister-subjects?
Also, on that same note, the store had a plethera of beaded wares with different properties and meanings. I'd love to learn to make something like what they had, so any kind of craft suggestion regarding things like magical jewelry and prayer-bead-esque ropes and whatnot would also be greatly appreciated!
