This community has been created to celebrate Julian of Norwich and her contemporaries, the fourteenth-century English mystics: Walter Hilton, Richard Rolle, Margery Kempe, and the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing, and to spread abroad the knowledge of their teachings. The journal's username is drawn from the last chapter of Julian's book, the Showings or Revelations of Divine Love:
"What, do you wish to know your Lord's meaning in this thing? Wit it well, love was his meaning." The Middle English word "wit" can be translated equally as "know", "learn", or "understand".
Membership in the community is open, and posting access is for all members; however, anyone who posts off-topic material will be banned in an impatient, un-Christian, and un-Julian-like manner.
