8:22 pm - Leather (especially boots)
BERJAYA

Um, I know there are different types of leather, one being suede, which is different from the usual shiny smooth and which I have in skirt format. I'm wandering though, what kind of leather makes the best boots, and do they have grade for these things, like quality or something, in Canada?

I really want a pair of leather boots after all the retro television I've been watching again. I just haven't decided yet if it should be shiny black calf high, like original Star Trek boots, over the knee high brown and softly wrinkle like the boots Buffy the Vampire Slayer wears with mini-skirts...or 'mountie boots' like what Constable Fraser wears in Due South.

What I know is, durability and practicality is a must, anyone here in Toronto know where I might find tall leather boots without heels? Or without those high heels? At stores like Sears and Bay, my usual shopping haunts, most stuff are plastic, or, really high heels. I want something preferably stylish but definitely endurable. Is there anything one can do to leather shoes, to protect them from salt and slush? (Slush is melty snow mixed with mud and sand that is sprinkled along with salt)

How long does a typical good pair of leather boots last?

Is Italian made leather boots the best, or should it be Canada or Russian if I'm looking for something that can be worn on rugged plains ?!? (I hike/trail)

3:14 am - Help on Shearling Coat!

Hey, guys! :)

I'm new here and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on this particular coat/jacket that's on Ebay. I LOVE the design, and want it BADLY, but the price is (imo) totally criminal.

It looks (to me) as thought it was created in Hong Kong or somewhere similar, and I keep getting the feeling as though the price should be $500 instead of the whopping $700 the seller is asking for.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9310762618&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

So, my questions are as follows:

1) Is the price totally unreasonable for what you're getting?
2) Will the price be reduced in the next few months (when coat season picks up)?
3) Does anyone know (or can they try to make out) the brand of this coat from the pictures shown in the auction?
4) Does anyone know of a fur/leather business that can make the *same* coat but for $500 or less, with the same materials?

Thanks everyone, and I'm sorry if this is a nuisance to the community! &___&

To my disdain I cannot find a picture of my coat online. Well, really that makes me kinda happy, being unique and all, but it sure would help this post out a bit. If I EVER manage to get a new camera I'll take a picture.

I got a new coat over the weekend. It's zip up, has two front pockets and a loooong hood that goes down to the butt with a tassle on it. Coat goes down to the hips. It is made from some manner of wool..it feels too soft to be sheeps wool, so possibly alpaca or llama. It is patchwork of many colors, blue, orange, yellow, etc. It's handmade by some manner of 'native' (it was in one of those 'native' booths at the fair, but I couldn't tell if it was South American or Native American stuff, it was just a jumble of things) and has no tag. I didn't think to ask what it was made of when I got it. Very pretty, and very bright. I don't own many bright clothes!

I got this postcard in the mail today:

PETA claims that it "fights" for helpless animals. Yet PETA employees killed over 10,000 dogs and cats at one PETA "animal shelter" alone. And now, they're targeting your rights for extinction!!

Dear Friend:

The front of this postcard is taken from a propaganda piece that People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is distributing to children across America. This organization has a track record of supporting eco-terrorists. They slaughter dogs and cats. And they are attempting to ban hunting across America. At 9:00PM Eastern Time, October 18th, NRA Executive Vice President Way LaPierre will debate PETA spokeman Andrew Butler on InDemand pay-per-view television. I urge you to watch this debate and learn the truth about the growing "animal rights" terrorism movement in America and around the world.

This is the picture on the front:

Renaissance faires..probably one of the LEAST vegan friendly places out there. All that luscious leather!

I've been hunting for a pair of boots for my hubby, NOT an easy task as he wears size 16.

but look what I found..

Can't wait till I can order him those and see him in all that leather! I'll be sure to post some pictures when we get them in.
