Philadelphia Brown

Enlarge to see the faces above the 2nd floor windows also the other details BERJAYA
BERJAYA BERJAYA When I was walking between Eastern State Pen. and the Art Museum in Philadelphia the other day I was amazed by all the wonderful old row houses and brownstones. Here are a couple of them. The bottom one is the Bergdoll mansion it's at the corner of Green and 22nd streets and the other is also on Green street. The Bergdoll was built in 1890 by a wealthy brewery owner. It has since been turned into apartments, but from the pictures i've seen the inside has been restored beautifully.

I would also like to mention that I just returned from an evening walk. There is a trail that winds around my neighborhood half way into the trail I started see flicks of light then more and more at that moment I realized I was seeing lightning bugs for the first time. When I turned a corner there was a grassy field several acres around, and as I walked I watched an amazing light show. It wasn't completely dark, so I was also able to see bats flying around and eating insects right out of the air. I talked to a guy who said this is just the beginning and in a few weeks the field will be so lit up with lightening bugs that I could read a book out there.

On top of all that the sunset and sky at dusk was beautiful too.(I didn't have my camera with me and if I did I doubt it could have captured the beauty of the scene)

Pennsylvania is a really wonderful place. I am so glad that we moved here.

Finally I would like to thank Martha from PA for recomending this blog to her friends on her blog The Daily Grind.

Skywatch over Shady Brook Farm

BERJAYA This is a farm near my house that allows people to pick their own fruit. I haven't gone there yet but I noticed how nice the clouds looked above it so I took some pictures. If you enlarge it, it looks better and you can see the tractor.

Barbershop Window View

BERJAYA BERJAYA Click picture to enlarge
I was walking around Bristol Pennsylvania yesterday and saw this cool barbershop in a narrow old building. I really like the window view. If you click to enlarge the bottom picture you will see the old barber asleep in his chair as well as his collection of stuff and even the reflection of me taking the picture. This was taken just down the street from where I took the picture of our little friend in yesterday's post.

Newtown Farmer's Market

BERJAYA Being able to walk to the Farmer's Market is one of the many wonderful things about living in Newtown. The Newtown Farmer's Market is small and only open Thursday thru Saturday, but the food is high quality and tastes great. Not all, but most of the sections are operated by Amish families. Vicki and I didn't bring any pots and pans to Newtown because we planned on getting a new set, but it's been so easy to get good food that we still haven't bought them.

Ketchup vs Mustard?

BERJAYA Imagine my surprise when I saw this race car on the small town streets of Doylestown Pennsylvania. Talk about tailgating.

Not so Mellow
but it's definitely yellow
and I can't help but think
there's something wrong with that fellow.

Old Delaware Canal

BERJAYA BERJAYA BERJAYA This is a section of the old 60 mile long Delaware canal. The Delaware Canal is the only remaining continuously intact canal of the great towpath canal building era of the early and mid-19th century. Opened in 1834 it was used to haul freight by mule pulled barges back and forth from Easton Pa. to Bristol Pa. until the railroad made it obsolete.

I have no idea what the strange looking animal statue is, it's on the grass right next to the canal.
Anybody know what it is?

Crossing the Delaware

BERJAYA BERJAYA I took these pictures today while crossing the Delaware river into New Jersey just a few miles away from George Washington's famous crossing in 1776. My crossing was a lot warmer and the bridge made it a lot easier.

Mercer Museum

BERJAYA Vicki and I also went to the Mercer Museum in Doylestown. It has six floors of all sorts of things. "The core of the Mercer Museum collection was conceived by its founder as an encyclopedic assemblage of pre-industrial American material culture. Established in 1897, it is now recognized as one of the most extensive collections of artifacts associated with pre-1850 American life-ways and technological history. Comprising nearly 40,000 objects, the museum is especially renowned for its collections of tools and artifacts associated with pre-industrial trades, crafts, agriculture and domestic work. While originating primarily in the Middle Atlantic region, these collections also include thousands of objects from New England, Appalachia and the Deep South."

I think it's a very unusual place inside and out.

Civil War Museum

BERJAYA This Doylestown house is where the Buck's County Civil War Museum is located. It's on my very long list of things to do. Doylestown is about 11 miles away from Newtown and from what I've seen has a bigger historic downtown and a really great variety of old homes in many styles.I found out that every last Saturday at the Newtown Farmer's Market the Amish merchants have a pig roast. Today we were able to get some of it but just the last scraps, next month I want to get there early.

Boys Fishing from a Covered bridge

BERJAYA I live about a mile away from Tyler State Park, and while hiking around I discovered this covered bridge. On the other side of the bridge next to the trees was a grassy area that was hidding three little deers.
This park is amazing!

Memorial Day Parade

After the parade a quiet moment of prayer and reflection

BERJAYA

"Shadrack (the bird) and I want 50% of the money that you make on this picture."

BERJAYA BERJAYABERJAYA
BERJAYA Today Vicki and I walked to the Newtown Memorial Day Parade. It was supposed to start at 9am so we got there at 9am and waited in the Starbucks right on the parade route. It turns out that the parade started several blocks away then stopped at the Council Chamber for speeches. So after waiting for an hour and talking to a few nice people, I walked over and caught the end of the last speech and the beginning of the parade. The parade itself didn't last long but it was very moving to see the old World War II vets and patriotism. I was in the Navy during the "cold war" and thankfully didn't see the horrors or lose any friends in battle. I remember seeing the sadness and loss in the face of my kindergarten teacher when she lost her son in Vietnam.
I salute the fallen, the fighting and those who lost loved ones to war.

I present this as my (new) world in Newtown. To see all the other my world tuesday posts just click here.

Old Church

BERJAYA This is the old 19th century church behind my house. It's one of many in Newtown. This one has a grave yard on the side. It's nice to hear the bells ringing. I'd like to take a look inside someday. My church's building is modern and not very close.

A day in Newtown

BERJAYABERJAYABERJAYABERJAYA
Today Vicki and I both had banana pancakes at Pat's Colonial Kitchen (yum!). Then we got library cards and off to the farmer's market where we picked up lunch and dinner. After a very good BBQ pork sandwich and side of sweet potatoes, I took a long walk in Tyler State Park. It's really great being in the woods. There are so many birds it's like a wild symphony. I almost got lost a few times but managed to find my way out. Oh I also saw a woodpecker for the first time. Today was really hot but in the winter the park has cross country skiing, ice skating and sledding. Now we just finished the Farmer's market burritos and it's time to walk to the downtown area.
-After breakfast I saw this old tired dog and had to take his picture, he remind me of a sea lion.

Tree

BERJAYABERJAYAToday I took a long walk, and along the way I saw this beautiful tree, plus lots more interesting things that I'll share in the future. Vicki and I will have breakfast at a local spot that is supposed to be pretty good. I forgot to mention that our new church is a lot bigger than Calvary Chapel in Grapevine and there was a very good guest pastor (Pancho Juarez) and great music. I look forward to hearing the regualr pastor. I wish everyone a great weekend!
