It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally stepping away from fandom. That doesn't mean that I won't be checking my flist, coz I'm still interested in what you lot get up to, and I have a couple of seuper-seekrit projects that must not be named in fandomosity still to do, but in the main I'm going to unjoin most of the comms I belong to and stop using this LJ. I'll continue with the RP I'm in too, of course.
When I received "Wraeththu" I was at her house (i have my books delivered there, as they are always when the postie arrives) and she flipped through it and was taking the piss out of the writing. I got all defensive and was bristling as if she didn't understand poetic writing.
But after I finished THK, I picked it up and read four chapters and OMG. So not impressed. Apologies to anyone who loves these books but unless it gets genius after page 65 I just can't stick it any more.
happy birthday thescarletwoman! Anyone else - I'm sorry if you had one recently and I missed it!
I bought The Hedge Knight (prequel to ASOIAF) by GRRM the other day and I fell head over heels with The Hedge Knight straight away. I was mildly dissapointed to get the Graphic Novel and not the written version but I still enjoyed it a great deal.
the lovely jateshi sent me three doujinshi. *loves her*
And one of them is Lucius/Draco chan (OMG why aren't these things more explicit, and yes i'm going to hell)
But I can't read them!!!! Has anyone got Black Parl by Twins Club 2003 (or "Selfish Honey" or "Harry & Draco Book 2003.05.04 drawn by Southern Cross) and can translate them? *desperate*
wank_free - I'm sure a lot of you have already seen this, but EVERYONE needs to. 17 pictures of fandom wank. (the good kind) And the variety is gorgeous! There's delicious freckly twins looking like a Rackham illustration or something out of Tintin, there's wonderful kinky Death Eater Snape with a skull and hairy legs (body hair is pretty rare in fandom art). Talking of hairy, there's a BRILLIANT Hagrid/Squid which I just adored (yes, you heard me right), a Draco in the shower to DIE FOR, two lovely Kingsleys, A squeeful Snarry, a delicious Remus in the library, getting off... oh... and loads more I've probably forgotten. Theres' even female wanking, if that floats your boat. Wonderful wonderful stuff and I hope there's lots more of it. I'd like to see Christmas/Holiday wanking, personally...
punctuators - I hadn't heard of this comm before, but nimori pimped it recently. It's going to be a bloody godsend to me, for, as anyone who's beta-ed for me will attest, punctuation and me are not even mildly related. Nimori also is interested in finding Latin and Chinese scholars. (for HP spells and Firefly fics) This is what she says about the comm.( Read more...Collapse )</i>
lupin_snape has been organising a custom-made mood theme by fandom artists, and it's being previewed here - it's just lovely. Some of them are just hilarious, such as "impressed" and "hyper" and *giggles* "Moody" where Snape and Lupin are both dressed up as Alastor Moody *dies giggling*
bwahahaha! Just watching ER. This is an adult programme, with blood and gore, gun crime and all sorts of adult themes such as underage pregnancies, incest, you name it, it's in there, and someone just said "That's ball-thick and you know it."
Sometimes I really have to wonder about people.
My latest spork is up on hbpspork - "The Lightning-Struck Tower" I warn you, it's not pretty. There is so MUCH to spork in that chapter it's not funny. I wanted the sporking to be funnier, but I was darn near vicious towards the end. The best thing that happens in that chapter is Dumbledore dying, but the whole "Let's get the castle" pantomine - and that's the best word for it - I was reminded forcibly of Benny Hill or perhaps 100 clowns trying to get into a small car - is beyond the pale, and you will boggle at the comparison of the "I am your father" scene from Empire Strikes Back to the Draco and Dumbledore chatting.
LOST! is finally getting interesting! I was getting so bored with it that I had stopped watching "next week's episode" on the digital channel, but the whole meeting with The Others was creepy and powerful. I kinda agree with the man, too. Stupid Kate. Why didn't he let her have her head blown off? I would have. However the labrador and Hurley are still fat, the plane had unlimited tarpaulins, designer stubble is apparantly possible with the shaving equipment they have, the medical equipment is apparently endless and to make a torchiere, all you really need to do is to apply a match to the end of a stick. *UL is suspending belief happily*
I am within one chapter of finishing Transgressions. I think I will have a party when it's done. Am bone-weary of it - for two pins I would kill everyone off in a freak accident. Soooo desperate to start something else.
Thank you to anyone who recced me for the masterlist of fics. I spotted "Second Hand" being recced, which surprised me a lot (Ron-Harry!!!) but it hadn't got any second votes, but if there any others I missed, I apologise (and thanks again)
Off to battle with dealing with the Evil Michael... Hope you rebel scum had a good day yesterday. *drinks tea at you in an offensive fashion* ;)
The "Scars" docu-drama with Jason Isaacs that I pimped yesterday was AMAZING. What a talent that man is, what a bloody talent. It was based on five interviews with a real person who confessed his own violent past and Isaacs just played the part - but wow. Convincing, compelling, terrifying, tragic, I could NOT take my eyes off him.
And there was even slash. He spoke of being raped in prison, in a shower - gave some titillating details (I know, not nice, really, but I'm 12) about being pinned down, and in the end he pulled the guy's eye out with his bare hands to prevent it.
It was one of the best performances I've seen anyone give, let alone Jason. Better even (imo) than Heath Ledger. And no, it's not just because it was Jason. He was unrecognisable as the debonair sneering aristocrat I'm under.
It's rare I pimp hp_literotica, as frankly it doesn't need me doing it, it has (thanks to the talented writers) gained its own reputation. But I felt that today I had to. I was doing the monthly (actually this was a 3 monthly ...) roundup for the yahoo list that the community has, and I found SUCH a wealth of stories that I hadn't seen, hadn't read, hadn't commented on. I don't know of another community out there that has this sort of variety. From gen, to horror, to sensuality, to uber-punk prose to sweet sex to decadence. From Neville and Hannah to (and rarely seen, but two entries this time) Snape and Harry. From wonderful canon het to pairings that make you go wtf?
Plus the round-up for the poetry challenge, which inspired a lot of non-members to post.
I can't help but give the writers a standing ovation for the entries over the last 2-3 months. In the years that I've been here, I've never seen such wonderful diversity. Bravo and Brava. (and yes, that's UL being pretentious again, but you all know me too well.
I hope this encourages you to go over and read some of them, and especially comment.
Have any of you seen THIS? I've seen the trailer once, and it didn't mention him - it made it sound like a documentary, but there was this man at the end, with a terrible scar on his face and my little heart went PITTY PAT and I just KNEW it was my boy.... So I went and looked it up and SQUEEE!!!
So was chatting to gehayi last night about the spoiler of D00M, ( cut for the two people in fandom who haven't seen itCollapse ) and I (being the rabid Harry hater that I am - I will NEVER forgive him for the way he treated Hagrid in HBP, never, let alone all the other selfish stuff) am randomly hoping that Harry will one of the people who die.
( Morbid happy thoughtsCollapse ) Anyone else notice that Pirates of the Caribbean has been brought forward a day? It was 7th yesterday, and 6th today. I wonder if that's because of the worry about 7th July. Nod nod.
I'm not bothering with the movie meme for one simple reason. I've seen every single one of them. *beams* I am a black and white movie FANATIC. I could probably add about another 180 to that list. Including a ton of silent films.
The starlings are back in my garden, I don't know where they've been. They are so awful, though, they are the football yobs of the bird world. They are pushing everyone else off the table right this minute. *loffs on them* There was a cuckoo calling this morning. First one I'd heard this year. I was lying in bed, thinking - how beautifully rural - village church bells and a cuckoo.
Ten minutes later I could have done with a double bore shotgun. The little bugger was still cuckoo-ing...
I am watching Children's "Party at the Palace" for one reason and one reason only, to see Harry Hill as the Master of Hogwarts Owlery. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let him have the same role in the next film. Harry the Git and Won-Won are supposed to be there too, I think.
Was a bit dissapointed with Dr Who - it's all getting a bit "Brigadier" where they are always on earth..However, the portents look good for Rose-snuffage next week, so life isn't all bad. Next companion? I vote for a cute little androdynous male bed-warmer.
*wanders off after completely pointless post*
ETA: I may have died of the squee. ASH as Captain Hook? DIES OF THE DROOL
Jason Isaacs interview!!!! *Runs around in a circle, squealing* That's a particularly bad picture, but I have to say, I'd have been drunk if I'd had to attend the premiere of that film. He's got a SERIES coming out next month????? We'd better get it here..... *frets* eumenides1 can you DVD it?????
OK. My personal conspiracy theories on ASOIAF now I've read it all twice
1. I love love love love nassima she sums the true meaning of "wank" oh so well….*guffaws* well done, sweetie!!
2. I don't like where I am in "Transgressions" it's making me cry.
3. We have a girl (work experience) who started yesterday. She looks like (book) Draco. White hair, ironed flat, chin length. Bob. Pointy ferrety face and pale grey eyes. She'd probably make good money as a manga-like.
4. Tonight I turn into Father Jack. Not Captain Jack (of either type, no dreadlocks or tight leather trousers) But Father Jack. FECK!! DRINK!! FECK!!! BOYS!!! (ok – that's been modified, but he is a catholic priest) DRINK!!
5. Have decided when I'm thin I'm going to advertise for gaibois to come and live with me. Rent free for decoration – perhaps styling tips – and proof reading of stories. Perhaps added incentive if they let me watch.
6. Must get ELO's greatest hits. Have missed Mr Blue Sky. One of the greatest "bounce along" feel good tunes – EVER.
7. Am going to write to the BBC – only how is this DONE? I Can't find anywhere on their website to suggest anything. I want to try and convince them to show Firefly – find out how popular it is, and in the light of the success of Dr Who – FUND IT. Not a gnat's chance in hell of course – but one has to try. (shut up, Yoda)
I'm away a couple of days and.... have you lot got nothing better to DO? Jaw is on the carpet. Others have said it better (probably more politely) than me, but I don't know these people, I've never even HEARD of these people, and why stir it all up again (evidently, even though I'd never heard about it in the first place but then I don't live in the Het lane) just to piss people off. Sock puppets exist. They've always existed. They will continue to exist long after I've shuffled off these mortal coil. Don't give them the publicity. (stares at own post and realises oh the irony...) (sidles off, blushing)
nassima has coloured my gift art with the NWS sleeping Snucius. It's so beautiful - as cluegirl said, a picture tells a thousand words and this certainly does. It's just too wonderful.
Watched the "Enduring Love" DVD. What a disappointment. HOW can they have butchered that book so utterly and completely? They completely ruined it, changed the lead character, changed Claire, changed the ending, missed out a huge chunk of with pointless dinner parties. Most dissapointing.
I fully admit it was probably more "British or English" than most of the others, and very very much tongue in cheek, but it was meant to be - it wasn't taking itself seriously, for all that the peril and the plot were real. The farcical chase scene and Peter Kay being the villian(s) and the obvious smutty joke about the love life. All toilet Humour and I loved every silly moment. Of course, the monster was created (for those non Brits who didn't catch "Confidential") was designed by a kid as part of a Blue Peter (famous kid's programmed) competition and I think he was wonderful - I even liked the Slitheen twin planet thing which tied him into the whole universe thing. And the name joke... *dies giggling* Absorbatron? Absortaloff?
Just quickly - I'll delete this if i get the answer - what was the name of that lovely comm where artists did art for authors as gifts? I can't find the Swan Song art someone did for me!!! ETA: fanart_fairy - thanks eumenides1 and hill_! thanks gehayi!
I'm going to uploading my gift arts to my website later - but I've got several pieces that I love and am embarressed that I can't remember who gave them to me.
So - Did you draw a delicious Fenrir/Remus called Favole?
Did you do a graphite sketch for "Manipulation" of chan Sirius and Lucius??
And who did the wonderful CGI pieces for Manipulation? I know i had him on my flist and now I don't. ARGH.
I hate to put art up without credit, even gifts. *worries*
I don't know why I hadn't seen this before. Voldemort/Pikachu (R) To Ride the Electric Serpent. Thanks silver_sunn101 for spotting this. wikdsushi, you should be ashamed of yourself. *dies of the giggles* What I love is that poor Pikachu is in character the whole time! "Pika...." Poor little evil minion. I just love the idea of Voldemort collecting them all - I'm sure they'd be much better than the idiots he's got working for him at the moment. random_deater1 and random_deater2 I'm looking at YOU.
Am watching Trooping the Colour. I love it. I'd really like to go one year. *waves flag* I love this band piece they are doing now, when they change direction, so clever! And the uniforms! *drool* yes yes yes it glorifies something horrid but... pretty men on horsis! uniforms!
www.bookpuppy.co.uk have asked me to be a guest writer on their site - no renumeration, and I'll probably need to churn out a story a month, but it's good publicity. *bounces*
I had a really nice night last night, I went back about 250 posts on my flist and commented all over the place, read a couple of fics, perved over some art and generally kicked back and did what I used to do all the time. It was nice.
mysid posted a couple of 2002 MWPP fics that made me feel all nostalgic for the days when all I knew about fandom was the SB/RL yahoo list. *sigh*
I added to my slashy film collection by finding "Enduring Love" in the bargain bin of the local shoppe. I shall be watching that this evening! Read the book a while back, and was very impressed with it, but hadn't seen the film before. No shaggage, sadly, just a deranged stalkery Welshman falling in love with James Bond whilst Moneypenny looks on. Very Odd.
Oh yay! Shame that Accio is not happening, I was actually planning on going to that, but I'm going to go to this instead. Run over to http://elanor-isolda.livejournal.com/96050.htm and take the poll - there are several hundred interested people already.
So, I'm opening files for a new client (The Church of England - very prestigious) and I ask The Bitch Troll. "What do we do about Identification for these files? Do I need to take ID from every instructing officer?"
And she says: "No, We've already got ID from the Head Honcho."
Me: **IMPRESSED**
So who IS the Head Honcho, exactly? Her Maj? Or.... God?
*imagines a Monty Python Sketch*
"Now come on Queenie, you must have a gas bill - how about a passport? Now, really, there's no need to be awkward, God's given us his Bus pass and some stone tablets....."
I'm highly amused, I've been flame/trolled. How very pathetic. I just "love" these drive by troll-flames by courageous people who hide their (probably better known) "personality" behind a fic-only journal that hasn't been updated in a two years. When will people learn to be honest? Probably never.
Not wanting support, or wank on that post, but I do like to point these little viciousnesses out, to move aside a rock when it happens. A better critique of the spork itself, rather than a mostly personal attack would have been preferable.
Dissapointed with the response to i_love_looshie this year so far, only 30 entries. Come on peeps, I KNOW you've all written/drawn/iconned/Vidded/Meta-ed the Lucius in the last year. I know I haven't been keeping up with my drabbles, but still! If fandom is deader than this next year, he might not even get an outing, so lets give him a good year this year. I'll try and do a couple of drabbles today - serves me right for choosing a difficult prompt!
Sold a story yesterday, old news to erastes' watchers, but was happy about it as it was converted fanfic - about time my fanfic started paying its way.
And... I've nearly finished Transgressions. Nearly 3 years in the writing (or rather 3 years since I started it, to be more accurate) I think there's only about 2-3 chapters to go. I'll be very glad to finish it, so I can get on with other stuff, I have about 20 novel ideas, and two projects already in progress, but I thought I might try and convert Shoulders of Giants first - it's the piece of fanfic I'm most proud of, and I think, with a lot of reconstruction I could make it make sense outside fandom, the trouble is that it's so EASY to just start a story with "Remus walking down a road" you don't have to hook in the reader, you don't have to get the reader to engage with your main character - they already know him. You don't need to tell his back story, everyone knows it. To convert it, I'd have to do all that, and plausibly, so it will be interesting to see if it's possible
And the stupid "location" thing doesn't work for me, on LJ - it keeps search for an "Acle" in North America, that's because - yeah - everyone lives in North America. *smites it*
Well, that's all - dullsville today, I'm afraid. Off to the aged P's for weekly visit. Catch you all later.
Happy Birthday maelwaedd! Love you sweetie! Hope you are having a GREAT DAY!
Adverts - have a look at this Lacoste Advert - isn't THIS young Severus? on a day out with Lucius? Look at that gorgeous smile... If anyone can screencap that smile I'd love it - I've tried and FAILED.
gehayi has posted chapter three of hbpspork "Will and Wont" and she makes some very valid points, there is so much wrong with that chapter and the WRONG Dumbledore starts here.
Mother's little dog is at the vets having his teeth cleaned, not a nice operation as they have to use anaesthetic and with little dogs that's always a worry - however I think he made it through the op all right. *worries*
eumenides1 has already said it better than I can, but I have to concur with what she says on her post. If you are a fan of something, it doesn't mean that you are a slave, and therefore completely banned from criticising it.
And as for the "Greatest Living Author"?? WTF? Who voted? Tabloid readers? Under 10's? Please tell me it wasn't her peers? I'm sorry, but I do have to look askance at that. "Most successful Living Author" "Richest Author" anything like that - but you will never ever convince me that she's the greatest living. No no no.
As you know - eumenides1 and I have been joined at the hip in fandom for a long long long time, she betas me, I beta her. However she's dropping away from fandom to concentrate on her original writing as rwday and a little while ago she sold her first novel - and now she's got a publication date!!!
It couldn't happen to a NICER person. It's a fabulous book, with great characters you will love, lots of mysterious stuff going on, and of course, hot sweet sex.
*waves madly* Well done, sweetie! I shall be able to say I knew you before you woz famous!
I was chatting to gehayi earlier and she said that the latest conspiracy theory raised by swythyv on hp_essays was that Dobby came with Narcissa's dowry and is actually NOT free at all. It's an excellent essay, and I thought - bah - how silly.
Then I went and had a bath and instead of concentrating on my book, I lay there thinking about it and it makes a lot of sense, if you look at it from a deeper pov than JKR gives us on the surface.
When I stand up, I turn my chair so that I'm facing the gangway and slide out of my chair - this way it doesn't go back at all. It's a similar manoeuvre to exiting a small sports car in a mini skirt
When BT does it - she pushes her chair straight back - thereby hitting me, nearly every bloody time.
I haven't said because "Omg we've all been here before" but I've been dieting - or not dieting so much as "eating normally" as I can eat normally for a long time before I actually need to diet. Anyway, this is Monday of Week Four and I may not be able to SEE the difference but I am starting (a little ) to FEEL the difference. I'm still puffing like a grampus but not so bad as I was. It will probably take a couple of years, but it will be worth it in the long run, however it galls me that I've wasted what could have been my last shagging years trapped inside La Bibendum, as who is going to want to shag me when I'm finally slimmer? (Other than anyone who looks like Grandpa Moses, anyway)
in September if anyone fancies popping along. At the moment the plan is only to go for the Saturday, I don't have anywhere to stay oop north and frankly I don't even know where Nottingham is. *peers hopefully for the Sherrif*
It's a writing group I'm seriously considering joining - they all look very worthy, what the frell will they think of me, and I stand up and say, "He slid his hand down the throbbing length, teasing the vein with his thumbnail, before kissing him again so hard their teeth clashed." *chokes giggling*
nothing else to report, lovies. How are you all? I went looking for Hook/Pan yesterday and couldn't find any - what is it with Hook/Wendy? Ewww!!!!
As I said when I requested prompts, I'm doing AU Lucius drabbles. And come on people!!! I don't want i_love_looshie to be the underlucius show. Where are you all?
So we've got a world cup sweep running and I think "nah - it's 3 quid I could spend on beer" but then - the first prize is £75 and boy I could do with it... So I join in - and I get...
Trinidad and Tobago.
I mean - REALLY!!! There is no justice. They are even in England's group - so does that mean I'll have to go and get a T&T flag and stick it on my car??? Do I have to learn to limbo? *G*
I was chatting to gehayi earlier and I decided that I really want to have Remus be happy. I have an enormous soft spot for him, and he just deserves to be happy. He NEEDS someone to love him. I may even have to write it, because just thinking about Remus always makes me cry. I swear, if she harms a hair of his head in Book 7 I shall ... Well, I don't know what I'll do.
I think I'll be more upset if she kills Remus than if she kills Lucius.
This post may have too many line breaks, and if it's the size of your flist page, I apologise, I'm still experimenting with this, but can't amend it until I get home in 2 hours.
Even if I can't reply to comment when I'm AT work, it still helps me feel a little bit in touch, and then I've got the evening to reply to comments. It's just nice to be able to access LJ at work, even if it's only like this. Horrid day so far though. I hate my job for many reasons - the main one of which is that I was taken on as a legal Sec/paralegal (which was a step down as I was a Legal Officer in the Council, and was drafting leases and dealing with Highway legal issues) but it was that they'd train me on here. Four years later and I'm doing less legal work now than I was five years ago. Then this morning - Smug Git comes up to me and starts telling me how he's got a "really exacting copying job to be done that needs to be done right." Do I need to tell you how shit that makes me feel? That he doesn't even trust me to do photocopying? Plus the fact that my 100 percent acceptance rate for short stories got ruined yesterday. So am feeling dented to say the least. Yeah yeah, I know that everyone gets rejected, it's just that I was feeling all invincible (stupid i know) So I'm going to write a Looshie Drabble instead - that always cheers me up. In case you HAVEN'T noticed, i_love_looshie has opened so PIMP and JOIN and WRITE and DRAW and POST. please! Movie night last night. Went to see "Friends with Money" OMG. Avoid at all costs. It sets feminism back by about 1000 years. Evidently all a woman needs to do is be happily married to a rich man to be happy. Single people are sad gits who deserve charity and pity from their friends and shampoo can change your life. Truly. those ARE the messages in the film. However!!!! That being said - Jason Isaacs was in it. (Why Oh Why?) He was one of the husbands - a writer (squee) and was absolutely the BEST thing in it, and utterly delightful. There was also a lot of gay subtext which was more than sweet - so if you CAN stand the dreaded Aniston woman and the truly gawdawful "message" it's worth seeing for Isaacs performance alone.
I just wanted to see how Voldemort would shape up. I compared some of the Rules of the Evil Overlord List against canon. *shakes head sadly* Oh Voldemort Voldemort - you are so going to lose...
I've been mulling it over and I'd like to do a drabble a day again, like I did last year. I didn't want to do A-Z drabbles as I'd end up repeating myself, so let's have some fun with it. So I'll take 30 AU requests. BY AU I mean - ANY period of history. Past or Present. Make him a senator, a pirate, put him in any novel - any film. He could be Mr Blond in Res. Dogs or a suitor for Elizabeth Bennett. However Lucius will remain IC as I can make him, which would be amusing as a caveman.. If I don't know the canon, I'll either do my best or ask for another. I'm sending this via email, so it might not work, which itself is a pointless thing to say, as if it doesn't work you guys won't see it. *headdesk*
If any of you haven't seen it, run over to hp100 and check out this last week's offerings, as there is a hilarious running drabble "Death Eater Rules and Regulations"
Examples:
6. Whoever continues to eat the Dark Lord’s tandoori chicken – The Dark Lord knows all and sees all, and you will be dealt with severely. It was clearly labeled. If the refrigerator can’t be used responsibly, the privilege will be revoked.
10. All identifying characteristics should be fully concealed by robes and hoods in public. These include, but are not limited to: scars, body shape, and one's long, silvery hair.
12. When casting the Dark Mark, do so ONLY a) when someone's dead and b) when you're about to leave. It's a symbol of terror, not a billboard saying, "WE ARE HERE."
24. We're not evil. That's Order propaganda. We're "differently moral."
50.) Those vibrating spikes are for TORTURING people, Lucius. Desist at once.
75. Re: Tuesday's meeting. It is not funny to refer to a visit by a certain family as 'getting Crabbes at the weekend'.
