CARE (Certification Advancement & Recertification Experience) simplifies certification maintenance by recognizing continued growth. Advance or recertify eligible higher-level certifications and keep foundational credentials current automatically.
What it is
CARE automatically renews eligible foundational certifications when you achieve or recertify a related higher-level certification.
Why it matters
It rewards ongoing learning, reduces unnecessary recertification steps, and keeps your credentials aligned with your current level of expertise.
When it starts
The program officially took effect on January 1, 2026, and is now fully implemented and available in the learning portal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can CARE be used to reinstate expired certifications?
Yes. CARE applies whether your eligible lower-level certification is current or non-current. As long as you previously earned the applicable certification (KCNA, KCSA, or CKA), achieving or recertifying an eligible higher-level certification will automatically reinstate it as current and align the certification dates.
If I have never earned an Associate certification, can I receive it automatically by passing an advanced exam?
No. You must have previously earned the applicable lower-level certification (KCNA, KCSA, or CKA) to participate in CARE. Passing a higher-level certification will not automatically grant a certification you have never held.
I passed CARE-eligible exams using different Linux Foundation accounts. Will my certifications still be renewed?
Yes, but the renewal cannot be processed automatically. Please contact Linux Foundation Support and provide the details for all accounts used to earn your CARE-eligible certifications so they can be linked and processed manually.
Can my CKA be renewed if I passed CKS before June 18, 2026?
No. CKA renewals through CKS apply only when the CKS certification is earned or recertified on or after June 18, 2026. Renewals cannot be applied retroactively to certifications earned before that date.
How long does it take for my certification renewals and Credly badges to update?
Please allow a few business days for automatic renewals to be processed. Once complete, your updated certification dates will appear in your Linux Foundation Training Portal profile, and your verified Credly digital badges will automatically reflect the new expiration dates.
