should it be remedied?
McGill does not have a Wikipedia entry. The fact that I thought it would/should amuses me greatly. | | Wednesday, April 11th, 2007 | 11:01 am [nymphaeales] |
So.
It's almost been a year, so I thought I'd revive the topic: What's everyone doing this summer/after graduation? I'm living in Galen's apartment and waiting tables until I find a job. That, of course, assumes I ever finish my thesis. (ETA for those who don't know who I am since I never introduced myself: I'm Wednesday and I was Dorm Council President this year.) It's Kissam! You know where it is! (corner of West End and 21st) You know who'll be there! (McGillites) You know what time it is! (6:00) This announcement is too long! Go! The End. P.S. Contact Lucas, Lisa B, Angeline, or Daniel if you want to know what's going on... we in 'da know... usually... | | Monday, April 25th, 2005 | 5:26 am [barzelay]

Since Wednesday is reading day, there's shit going down Tuesday night. Tuesday night is a mandatory dorm meeting where we'll vote on constitutional changes. After that, we're showing this year's McGill Slideshow, and reading the McGill Awards. If you have pictures for the Slideshow, email them to Milie (AIM: browniegonebad). If you have McGill Award ideas, email them to Holly (AIM: BLR103). After that, we're having the last Coffeehouse of the year. So, come Tuesday night around 8:30pm for all that jazz. | | Saturday, April 9th, 2005 | 1:52 pm [barzelay]

2004-2005 McGill Dorm Council
For those interested, tonight was dorm elections. It turns out that we were unable to modify the positions at all since it was determined that the Constitution had been signed in, even if it hadn't been ratified. So, we're missing some key things (Big Band Ball Chair, Recruiting Chair, Newsletter Editor, and I don't get to also do Interhall), and we have some very useless positions (Vice President, Fundraising). But for those interested, here's this year's council. President - me Vice President - Emma Hamilton Judicial Vice President - Lucas Seibert Interhall Rep - Jennifer Carlisle Secretary - Joel Dillard Treasurer - Daniel Hooper Publicity Chair - Quang Bui Social Chair - Holly Burns-La Riche Membership Coordinator - Debbie Guenther Fundraising - Brendan MacDonald Hall Rep - Floor 2 - Mosby Haltermann Hall Rep - Floor 3 - Arek Smith Hall Rep - Floor 4 - Noelle Janka and then the RAs and Project Coordinators Current Mood: excited | | Friday, August 27th, 2004 | 5:49 pm [sarahthustra]

These droids are made of biscuits.
So, I'm good at following instructions. Sarah here, class of 2003. Still in Nashville helping keep the elections free and fair. In the interest of doing my job I'll extend to all of you the same options I gave Christy. Vote on November 2 or I'll rub my ass on your face... unless that sounds like something you'd be into and then I vow to never ever rub my ass on your face. K? p.s. Nice article, Claire! I was reading it in Green Hills the other day and I overheard some of the preppy women discussing the "polar bear" concept. It's sweeping the nation! Windows!
Hello, everyone who's watching this community. I have a favor to ask. I'm making curtains for my room. Does anyone know the dimensions of the window in your standard McGill single? Or have an approximate idea? Just leave a comment. Thank you!! | | Sunday, July 25th, 2004 | 3:50 am [dahoop]

FOUND DOG
I found a beautiful young male rotweiler near bongo java this evening. I took him home because it was getting dark and I didn't want him to get hit, which he almost did. He definitely belongs to someone because he has a collar (not tags) and it appears that he pulled too hard at his leash and escaped. He's beautiful, and super friendly, but I can't keep him long, because it's driving my pups CRAZY. If he's yours or you know who he belongs to either leave a comment or e-mail me at leeeaaaaaa_37@yahoo.com. | | Thursday, July 22nd, 2004 | 8:44 am [thisismytruth]

No more Mural
I'm sorry this is so close to the meeting time. The McGill Mural in the main stairwell is going away. Due to water damage, they're going to smash out the wall with Cthulhu, Gnesh (sp?) etc. etc. and fix the plumbing or something. This can happen as soon as next week or as late as Winter Break, I think Pat said. Pat in the housing department is holding a meeting in McGill at 5:30 today (Thursday) open to all former/current McGillites who are still in Nashville. She wants to talk about mural preservation options (taking pictures and recreating it, making up a new mural, saying 'screw it' and losing it forever). Umm. that's all, really. No more mural! come to the McGill TV lounge today at 5:30 if you care about the mural or if you want to take pictures of it before it goes away. | | Wednesday, July 21st, 2004 | 7:01 pm [violet_flames]

McGIll Country Club
So I just interviewed this guy who was hugely into McGill in the early 1980s (he graduated in 83). Other interview subjects had named him when I asked who the craziest person in McGill was, so I assume he was the precurser to UV. He had lots of great stories but at one point he said, "Hey, is the McGill Country Club sign still there?" I had to break the news to him. "No," I said, "it isn't." And then I proceeded to explain the story about the intoxicated frat boys who ran into McGill and trashed the place during Haga's techno party this spring. They went into Arek's room and threw stuff around. Luckily Arek was inside and when he stood up, all 6'3, 200-something pounds of him, they realized how big he was and ran away, but not before somehow taking the McGill Country Club sign from the lobby. My interviewee said, "That's a real shame. That sign was there before I even got to McGill." I didn't know the sign was that old. Now I really miss it. I wish we could get it back :o( Or, at the very least, make a new one. The end. | | Tuesday, June 8th, 2004 | 4:21 pm [thisismytruth]

Newspaper Article on McGill
Dear Former & Current McGillites, My name is Claire (in case you didn't know) and I am a recent Vanderbilt graduate. This summer, I am working at the Nashville Scene, the weekly alternative newspaper here in Nashville. I am writing a cover story on McGill – the dorm, its history and how it provides a much needed home for the atypical Vanderbilt student - that will come out sometime in the fall. I lived in McGill for three years (2001 – 2004) and thus know a lot about the dorm, but I would like to interview some other residents and hear their stories and opinions about their McGill experience. If you are willing to be interviewed, please email me at claire.v.suddath@vanderbilt.edu or call me...but I'm not putting my phone number on the internet so...email me to get the phone number. The interview can be done via phone, email, or, if you live in Nashville, in person. Thank you so much for your time and I hope to hear from some of you soon. Sincerely, Claire PS – A few months ago, I posted a message here regarding the dorm’s annual project, the McGill Book. The book is finished but we’re having a few problems with the publication process that should hopefully be cleared up sometime soon. When everything is in order, I will post another message to let you where you can purchase the book. PPS - yes, I still need to email people who currently live there/with whom I am friends. So don't discount this plea for an interview if you know me. Oh, and people who never actually lived there (Marc, Michael) count too. You can still comment on what McGill is like. | | Monday, April 26th, 2004 | 7:14 pm [vandy_slacker]

Hey all
Hey, I went ahead and decided to join since I've been accepted and actually have a room in McGill next year. Name: Camille Year of graduation: 2007 (hopefully sooner) Um, I've got nothing to say now. I can't wait to go home and I'm looking forward to next year. Current Mood: blah | | Tuesday, April 13th, 2004 | 6:38 pm [savageaurora]

Well. I suppose rather than being a stalker and watching the community from a bookmark, I'll follow kevine's example and join. I'll be coming to Vanderbilt in the fall and applying for residency at McGill in the spring, so I suppose it's not too much of a reach that I'm posting here already. I've hung out in the lobby a few times, even if quietly at the side of my boyfriend (who, completely by coincidence, goes to Vanderbilt and spends most of his free time in McGill), and truly enjoyed the people there more than anywhere else. I'm hoping that serve as an escape from Vanderbilt's reputation as painfully preppy, which, from the people I met there, it should be. Hmmmm. I don't think I have much else to say. Just a wave, of sorts. So, good luck on the McGill book and hopefully I'll be seeing some of you next year. Current Mood: chipper |
