| Good Place To Get Botox in Toronto? |
[07 Jan 2011|10:46am] |
|
Has anyone here (female or male) gotten Botox for the face? I am looking for recommendations on somewhere good I can go in the Toronto area to get a few minor/fine facial lines corrected. I don't know anyone in "real life" who has gotten the procedure done and don't want to choose a doozey, so would really appreciate any insight. Please feel free to either comment or PM me if you prefer.
Thanks in advance for your time!

Some of you may've heard of HollabackNYC: http://hollabacknyc.blogspot.com/
It's a site where you can send in pics and stories of perverted assholes who harass you on the street. You know, the ones who make you feel uncomfortable wearing a short dress at night or a bikini at the beach. Hell, even when you're fully dressed sometimes.
I decided to make a Toronto version: http://hollabackto.blogspot.com/
It happens to me all the time, I see it happening to other women all the time... and nothing gets done. This at least gives us a starting point to getting back at these creeps.
It is NOT okay to feel unsafe or intimidated based on how you dress or what time of day you're out; it's not okay to take their comments, gropes, leers and disgusting behaviour, and it's not okay to just ignore it.
We're still just starting up the site and currently accepting stories and pics of your encounters with these creeps.

| looking for roomate |
[15 Oct 2008|04:48pm] |
Hi,
I'm looking for a room mate for my place for November 1st.
The room for rent is apart of a three bedroom place located in Kensington Market. It is the inside bedroom with a window facing east and also has a closet. You would be sharing a place with two others and one fat cat. There is a small washroom and kitchen & indoor bike storage but no shared living room. The rent is $400 utilities included.
I'm looking for someone who is queer and trans-positive, has left-leaning politics, understands cultural appropriation, clean, has a calm vibe, likes crafts more than parties (sometimes), enjoys making&building things, and into the do-it-yourself ethics type deal.
So take a look at my profile to see if you would be a good match.
If you're interested in the place&think that you fit the description, please email me @ artsves@gmail.com or leave a comment here with what you're into, how you spend your time and a contact number. We will be showing the place this SATURDAY on October 18th.

| Ladyfest Toronto 2008 - x-posted |
[09 Apr 2008|01:35pm] |
May be of interest to some....

1) Open Meeting
We are having an open meeting on April 16th at 7pm. The meeting will be held in Room 23 at the 519 Community Centre (519 Church Street). The main purpose of this meeting is for past, present and future volunteers to get updated on the 2008 festival. We will also be forming some important committees, and getting feedback and ideas on how to make this year's festival awesome. If you are interested in volunteering this year, or just want to hear what we are all about, please join us at this meeting! If you want to be involved but can't make it to this meeting, please email us at ladyfesttoronto@gmail.com (if you've already sent in your volunteer application, then don't worry about letting us know if you can't make the meeting - but do join our yahoo group for volunteers here if you have not done so already!).
2) Gentleman Fest
We are thrilled to announce that our first fundraiser of 2008 is happening on May 8th at Tiger Bar. More details will be coming very soon!
3) Knitivism
LFTO Knitivism will be collecting donations of handmade, knitted items for Jessie's Centre for Teenagers and Anduhyaun Emergency Women's Shelter. Jessie's is a resource centre for pregnant teens and teen mothers, and was founded by June Callwood. They offer lots of amazing programs, including a Swap Shop that allows the women to pick up baby and household items for free. Anduhyaun is a shelter for First Nations women and their children, and it's the second oldest shelter in Canada.
We'll make sure any and all donations find a good home, but there are some things that the two locations have told us are most needed. They are:
-Hats, mitts and scarves -Slippers -Children's toys -Baby clothes, hats and other baby items -Blankets
Donations can be dropped off at one of three lovely locations: -West Side Stories (1499 Dundas West), a great new video store specializing in women in film and LGBT films -Red Tent Sisters (810 Danforth Ave), an awesome store and workshop space that is focussed on women's health and sexuality -Ryerson Women's Centre. They suggest you contact them ahead of time to make sure someone will be in the office when you stop by. Their phone number is 416 979 5255 ext.2350. -Or, bring your knitted goods to the open meeting or gentleman fest!

| x-posted - ladyfest toronto 2008 volunteering! |
[27 Feb 2008|10:43am] |
Ladyfest Toronto 2008 Call out for volunteers
Ladyfest Toronto is a four-day arts, culture and music festival. We are a non-profit, grassroots, do-it-yourself collective who seek to promote urban feminism. We work from a framework that is pro-feminist, trans-inclusive, pro-diversity and anti-oppressive. We seek to build community among Toronto's feminist businesses, artists, activists and academic community. We believe that art is a powerful form of resistance and hope to incite dialogue about contemporary feminist issues in our city. We will be providing a venue for women to express themselves and showcase their work free of sexism, classism, racism, and homophobia; as well as other forms of oppression.
We believe that politics can be fun and hope to facilitate political action and create tools for feminist networking at our annual event. We will proudly showcase the talent and actions of both local and international women. Ultimately, we hope Ladyfest Toronoto inspires women everywhere to organize themselves and create similar spaces that allow women's creative works to be seen and heard, as other Ladyfest's have for us.
Ladyfest Toronto offers something for everyone, whether you are identify as a feminist or are curious about the ideas of it.
This year’s festival will be taking place Thursday, September 18th to Sunday, September 21st 2008.
