I spent the weekend in London, as
nightsofcydonia had decided to have a little vaycay in the city and was amenable to company. :D She,
looking_spiffy and I hit the Hard Rock Café/store/Vault yesterday and then went to the Imperial War Museum, which is hell and gone from the signage for it at Waterloo East rail station, man. The moral of the story? Stop and investigate immediately any signs advertising Levis for a tenner. ;-) The museum itself was brilliant, and we didn't even get through the entire thing - it's very large. I can't say that it was a *fun* afternoon, exactly, given the subject, but it was certainly interesting and attention-absorbing, and I'm really glad we went.
Today Lea and I did the Tower of London, which is the one "touristy" thing in London that I've really wanted to do. It was a perfect day for it, sunny and it had warmed up enough so that we could wander around comfortably sans gloves et al but weren't horribly overheated whilst in the buildings either. We took the guided tour and then poked around the rest of the site on our own and finally had tea in the café there. I loved it. I kind of think it's a shame that you can't access the grounds at all without having paid for entrance, because I liked the green space and how being in the area felt and it'd be nice to be able to just hang there without shelling out. But I totally get why it's like that, especially after learning that the guards actually live on-site, in flats in what was once the Mint. That is equal amounts of fabulous and creepy, man, LOL. One of the self-guided parts of the Tower is, of course, the vault with the Crown jewels, which would be where the absofuckinglutely enormous diamond comes into it. I, obviously, quite enjoyed looking at all the jewellery. *g* But after viewing so many purple crowns, and giggling over - and purchasing - purple crown-shaped little notebooks in the gift shop, I was *dying* for a proper rye and coke by the time we left ahahahahaha!
How sad. I did not already have a tag for rye. Fail. I will say that I've seen enough of London Waterloo station in the last week that I'll be quite happy to avoid the place until March 2nd, that being the date of the first Metallica concert. Heh.
