Since the 1980s, Surgam has published two long-form issues annually, and one shorter issue to commemorate our bad poetry contest. We solicit submissions both from members of the Philolexian Society and from the greater Columbia community.
We accept poetry, prose, and visual art. We also welcome any combination of these genres or something entirely new – innovation is encouraged.
As we have done in the past, if we see potential in a submission but feel it would benefit from some editing, we will give the opportunity to the artist to use feedback from the editorial board to edit their work for publication.
Please send any and all submissions to submit2surgam@gmail.com as a pdf or Word file. Please do not include your name on the submission (to aid in anonymous evaluation), but do mention what name you would like to be credited as in your email. Multiple submissions are allowed. While there is no word limit, authors are asked to keep in mind that due to space constraints, works longer than 3 pages are less likely to be published.
Submissions are always open, but deadlines for the Fall and Spring Issues will be updated periodically.
Thanks for submitting! If your work is selected, you will hear from us.
