... this skirt from Wal-Mart. This was a total impulse purchase and I'm not sure how to wear it. I'm looking for ways to dress it up and wear it casually. They had a whole bunch of different colors, so I'm thinking of going and getting a couple more - IF I can wear this one!
( HereCollapse ) are a couple pictures I just took of me wearing it.
I was thinking something like ( this?Collapse ), but what else can I do?
One of the interesting self-esteem posts I found recently...
I hate Dove's "Real Women Have Curves" slogan with a passion.
I stuffed my bra in seventh grade because of ideas like that, because of society's undying belief that Breasts = Woman.
A few days ago I walked into a store and a fellow shopper didn't hesitate to tell her partner that my body was "gross."
She said this while three or four feet away from me. I assume she wanted me to hear her and feel bad about my alleged eating disorder/unhealthiness/low self esteem, so that I'd go home and cry over some bonbons about my wasted life and listen to Christina Aguilera and discover my inner beauty and suddenly gain thirty pounds so I could be normal like her.
Real women have hearts and blood and bones. They have skin that breaks and nerves that feel the cold. They are made up of carbon and water and constantly renewing cells. They know who they are.
Real women may not have breasts. They may not even have vaginas. They might like girls or boys or a bit of both or neither at all. They may not always consider themselves to be women, or they might have to fight to be called such since no one else believes them.
Find a new slogan, Dove. Thousands of the people you've unwittingly condemned as Not Real Women are waiting.
Enjoy your profits.
KInd of ironic isn't it, as most of the 'healthy and normal looking women' campaigns are defending the curves, because, lets be honest, mass media and fashion is preferring skinny vs. curvy AND it is worldwide health issue with weight and junk food... So those skinny girls (who are probably a minority) don't have a reason to feel insecure because skinny is ok and curvy isn't.
And then you have campaign that tell you curvy is actually what's pretty pretty.
But what with girls who are not victims of mass media, fashion and eating disorders? Yes, I still think they are in minority but minority is important too. I guess nobody though of it, and now I saw this post at Flickr.
I was against this campaign, not because of the reason this girl is stating, but because they are testing their products on animals, but that's (sadly) beside the point here.
Even curvaceous (or, "normal looking"), those ladies were still pretty (in 'socially acceptable' way) and with nicely looking bodies despite extra weight. What about the girls with broken noses, eczema, scars, burns, very unusual bone structure, bad teeth? Who will represent them?
I guess someone will think of this soon and then we'll have ads saying that white teeth are not 'normal', straight noses are 'boring', smooth skin only exists in Photoshop...
But I could forgive them that (grudgingly), because a least they did a good cause on starting the campaign, so it wasn't for nothing. Maybe they could've put 'All sizes are pretty' not exclude everyone else beside curvy ones.
Also, I think the law should regulate such ads and commercials. I don't know how can law allow huge billboards and photos with anorexic girls being published in teenage magazines or, well, just anywhere?! I am saying anorexic because you won't see 'curvaceous' girls on posters, will you, so I can't really complain about that.
I think that media should stop pushing any kind of ideals at all. Then everyone could feel natural in their bodies.
I don't know how possible that is, though. Media makes money and money makes world go around. There's always something bigger to subdue smaller one.
EDIT: While in this campaign they promote curves, on the other side of the world Unilever (the company behind Dove) is promoting something very different ( videoCollapse )
Skin whiteners! Because white is pretty! How are those girls supposed to feel pretty when they tell them they need to whiten their skin because dark = not pretty?
Whoooooa! I haven't posted here in awhile. :3 Anyway!
I've been working on folding the Kawasaki rose for awhile. I finally figured it out, and I'm hoping to start making hair clips for my Etsy shop. I had some card stock laying around, so I wanted to see how well it folded and if I could make a rose out of it.
I just decided to xpost this, so sorry if you see this again!
I'm looking for photos of people wearing long sleveed sweater dresses with jeans. I'm not really a fan of the sweater dress fad, but I saw one while I was at WalMart getting other things yesterday and for $10 I couldn't say no.. BUT now I don't know how to wear it. If all else fails, I could always fold up the extra long part so it looks like a regular sweater, I guess.
I would prefer pictures of girls wearing them with jeans since that's how I plan on wearing mine, but show me whatever you got!
Say I was going to buy this skirt. What would be some things I could wear it with (tops and shoes), considering that I live in NE and right now it's starting to get chilly and that we get a lot of snow. I can't seem to think of anything, which is why I haven't bought the stupid thing yet, despite wanting it for a LONG time.
Hey everyone! I've been meaning to post here for a while, but um...I'm lame and forget. haha. Anyway, my name is Melanie. I'm originally from San Francisco/Bay Area, but I go to school in Orange County. My style is really eclectic and depends more on my mood than anything. For example, I used to really be into the punk rock scene. But now, I'm really into vintage, the latest trends, classic looks, and even cutesy stuff. But no matter what my style is makeup, clothes, shoes, and nail polish will always be my obsessions. ^_^
I used some of my birthday money and got some sweet suede boots (this, coming from a jeans and tshirt girl). Anyway, I also bought some protector stuff and just sprayed my boots now. Here's my question: How often should I spray them? Weekly? Monthly? Does it depend on how often I wear them? Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated!
P.S.: If this isn't the right place to ask, please point me in the right direction! I looked at a bunch of other comms but they seemed to only be selling/advertisements, I didn't see anyone asking questions or anything.
newbie here! I really do not know how to define my style, except for what fits my mood. I am looking forward to sharing our styles together. and so this is not a ( text only postCollapse )
[1] So as you probably noticed we have new layout!! Yay!! Getting it was real pain in the ass, but here it is. Hope you all like it. :)
It was made by gossymer and it's called Green Tea, from her series called Lines. Header image is from *gloria-aniela @ dA. It's unusual photo, not too stylish, not too alternative...I wanted to represent all styles, not sure this photo does the work, but I like it very much!
[2] Anyways, in other news (which you probably also noticed) is that I'm working on Memories and posting entries with useful links. Please feel free to add some good links you know.
Well, that's about it, not spamming your flist anymore. :P
I know I posted about layout before, but I found one layout that looks great for community. I'm sorry I didn't use your votes for butterfly one, but it was too bright and eye-stabbing, or green-brown one, but it was flexible squares which didn't suit me for this comm.
I found layout and header image but I can't make up my mind about color scheme, so I'm asking you. Plz? I wanted some springy/summery color, but I just fell in love with greenyblue one. :P
So, which layout color matches header the most, in your opinion? Btw, Sand has light pink entry background and other two white.
Maybe Sand for spring and summer and I change to Green Tea or Ocean in fall/winter?
So sorry to bother you, but I want comm to look pretty! :P

Please feel free to comment if you have any other useful links! :)
just wanted to let the ladies who participated know that I made the order last week. It should take approx 2 weeks to get to me according to the recepit. I'll keep everyone updated.
I uploaded more jewelry to my Etsy shop. :3 I've been making a few things here and there, but my hands are kind of getting stiff, so I probably won't be adding more for awhile.
Almost everyone who uses internet eventually uploads/publishes some stuff. Photos and art most common. And since this community contains lots of your photos, I think this might come handy (at least to those who have PS...).
There is a simple way to protect your image without a big visible (and ugly) watermark..
Metadata is essentially information embedded into your media that stays there.
Through Photoshop (most versions CS, CS2, CS3 for sure) all you have to do is go:
FILE> FILE INFO, and it will bring up all your embedded info. Simply embed a copyright warning in the correct box (if in doubt, use the HELP function on your software)
Now my image is protected with an invisible, digital watermark.. but lets not stop there.. Lets have the internet tell us any time someone posts my image with my invisible copyright!
God bless google! Google alerts, one of the best kept secrets on the interwebs.
Just wanted to remind everyone of the wholesale corset order. Also wanted to update those involved that the invoices will be sent this weekend with payment due the 17th. I had to push it back a week because of my move being a bit messier/expensive than expected.
I make jewelry now. I bounce around to different types of creative stuff every so often. This time, I decided to make some jewelry. The pieces, aside from the earring components, are made out of origami! They are durable though because I cover each one with a waterbased sealer. :3 I don't have too much right now because I just started setting my shop up but feel free to browse (and maybe buy *wink* *wink) now!
I see many of you play around with your photos in Photoshop (or whichever program you use) to crop, resize, put frame on or slightly edit your photos. But not everyone has Photoshop or knows how to use it (I think having it is the easier part, lol) I posted this on my journal, as a info for my flist (I guess...) but I think some of you might find it useful. These are all easy-to-use online photo editing tools.
So, reminded by the recently launched Adobe Photoshop Express, I remembered two other online photo editing sites I love, so I'll post it here, in case you didn't know. :D
I expected much more, since the Photoshop is worldy famous for all their gadgets and options for creativity and manipulation. Simple interface, looks professional and serious, easy to navigate, a bit slow.
* you must have account to use it * option to connect to your Facebook, Photobucket and Picasa accounts. * you can upload pictures up to 2GB * creating albums. * Basics: crop&rotate, autocorrect, exposure, red-eye removal, touchup, saturation * Tuning: white balance, highlight, fill light, sharpen, soft focus * Effects: pop color, hue, black&white, tint, sketch, distort * embedding photos
It's still in beta, and I'm sorry to say, it's obvious. I just tried to edit my photo and it keeps saying Preparing photo for Edit...and that bar just rotates but not loading...But when I tried it 2 days ago it worked fine, so maybe it's just a little glitch. I hope they'll be adding much more options in the near future. Right now, they offer you almost the same thing as you can do in Picasa.
¤ Picnik ¤ I discovered Picnik accidentally on Box.net. Then I saw it on Flickr, which is awesome. Picnik's look is adorable, makes it more fun and simple to use. Recently it made much more options available for Free users (they also have Premium users).
* option to connect to your MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, Webshots, Photobucket, Picasa accounts, Yahoo search and even your webcam * you don't have to have account to use it * they don't offer storage, but after editing you can save it to your computer or one of your photo hosting sites (Flickr, Photobucket...etc) * Basics: auto-fix, rotate, crop, resize, exposure, colors, sharpen, red-eye * effects black&white, sepia, boost, soften, vignette, matte, infra-red film, lomo-ish, holga-ish, HDR-ish, night vision, cinemascope, orton-ish, 1960's, tint, invert, duo-tone, heat map, cross process, focal b&w, focal soften, focal pixelate, focal zoom, pencil sketch, neon, doodle, gooify, pixelate, posterize, film grain, snow (many of this stuff weren't available for free users until recently so I was thrilled when I got notification e-mail...:) - text lots of different fonts - shapes hearts, stars, flowers...etc. Additional ones for special occasions: Christmas, Valentine's, Easter, St. Patrick's... - touch up Unfortunately only 2 options: teeth whiten & blemish fix. - frames 5 frames - advanced Curves and Levels - this is for Premium members only
I started using FotoFlexer after I saw it on Photobucket (Picnik is associated with Flickr and FotoFlexer with Photobucket). It offers almost everything I said about Picnik. Only difference is between shapes they offer for creating.
* uploading photos on your FotoFlexer account, not sure about limit * after editing you can save it to your computer or one of your photo hosting sites (Flickr, Photobucket...etc) * you can connect to your Facebook, Picasa, Photobucket, Flickr, Phanfare, SmugMug, MySpace accounts, Yahoo search, webcam * you don't have to have account to use it * Basic: same as for Picnik * Effects: Blur edges, blueprint, neon, greyscale, invert, painting, cartoon, pop art, bronze, sepia, old photo, ink stamp, color rotate, pixelate, soften, tint, duoe-tone, heat map, sketch, color cketch, fresco, film grain, night vision * Decorate: stickers, text, draw, erase, fill, grab color, speech and thought bubbles, insert-a-face, fun cards, borders (frames), poster * Animate: stars, lovies, stickers * Beautify: smooth, sharpen, fix blemishes, smooth wrinkles * Distort: twirls, stretching, squishing, bulge, pinch * Layers: complicated to explain, go and see and play a bit * Geek: smart resize, smart recolor, smart cutout, smart scissors, curves, morph, webcam
And additionally
¤ Picasa ¤ Picasa is a photo organizing software you download to your computer. It offers simple editing, such as,: cropping, resizing, saturation, color, auto-fix, red-eye removal, back and white, sepia, sharpening and some other stuff. If other editors are too much for you and you don't need that much, Picasa is great for you. Only as I said, Picasa is not online editor. You must download the software. Also, if you use Picasa web albums, Picasa organizer has a button which allows you to simply send the photo to your online album.

I hope any of this comes useful to you! :D
