It turns out that joining fanficrants makes me want to post to s_f a lot. Okay, twice in a month, but given that that's more posts than it had in the previous year...

So slashjunkie1 posts with a rant about a pregnancy trope in fics - the pregnant person waking up their partner in the middle of the night to make them food. Because, you see, the only valid reason for doing such a thing would be if you are "BED RIDDEN or have a BROKEN ARM or BROKEN LEG/S" or something equally debilitating. Stupid pregnant people, forgetting that your partner needs to sleep. Hello, just because you're losing sleep to make them a baby doesn't mean they should, too! It's just rude.

Several people point out that, uh, there are actually a dozen and three perfectly valid reasons that a person in a normal pregnancy with no broken bones might do this. It's a trope for a reason. Maybe slashjunkie1 just has no experience with pregnancy and didn't realize that this actually happens in real life, right?

slashjunkie1 edits, but it doesn't get much better. On the one hand, they mention some emotionally manipulative and abusive things that happened in the fic in question, which would make a valid rant. Yet they maintain that their "complaint is the waking of the SO in these fics to make the prego person their sandwich. All day long PP you go about your day doing stuff at 3 pm or 12 pm, all by your lonesome."

You were fine at noon, how dare you feel like shit come 2am!

Now the commenters really start edging away from slashjunkie1, pointing out that now it sounds like they have an actual beef with pregnant women. slashjunkie1 also leaves a few comments, none of which do anything but dig the hole deeper.

I know this comm is beyond dead and all, but I just couldn't resist this.

Over in fanficrants, cauldronofdoom posts a physics rant. They just hate it when authors get basic motion wrong in fics, which is a valid complaint. However, within this post they manage to mislabel Newton's Third Law as his First Law, AND attribute the phenomenon in question to the Third Law when, in fact, it's caused by the (real) First Law.

When these things are pointed out, cauldronofdoom corrects the mislabeling but claims that their incorrect physics was no accident: you see, they didn't want to go into a lengthy physics lesson, so it was easier to just use the one with the word "opposite" in it. Because saying "You jerk forward when a car stops because you keep moving in that direction for a moment after the car has stopped moving" is WAY over the heads of the average fanficrants reader, I'm sure.

Admitting a simple mistake is for the weak.

A Wired article citing several studies says eating more proteins for breakfast gives you more energy and that carbohydrates for breakfast, particularly sugars, actually make you more tired. Almonds are mentioned three times, and the Zone diet is mentioned once, which recommends 30% of your calories come from protein but not from any particular source. The Zone diet is also very compatible with vegetarian and vegan diets through the use of more soy proteins (or lots of almonds I guess).

The article does not mention any animal proteins, either specifically or generally.

Conclusion?

Bacon is god and vegans are dumb.

A post is made to ONTD about Pink taking her newborn baby out for a walk. Pink had a c-section, due to a breech baby, about five days ago and the comments are... well:

Today has been a bad day for me. First we have kharmii and his/her insensitivity toward terminal conditions. WHY DOESN'T SHE GIVE CANCER OR AIDS THE CREDIT THEY DESERVES!!!1!111!1! I'm glad you all recognize. They should start a new class at university called 'cancer studies' where we learn to be more sensitive toward cancer victims and learn to be semantically correct when it comes to diagnosing their demises. Anyone who disagrees will be called 'a dirty cancerist'.

Anyway, I was listening to some old-skool and heard something that really got my knickers in a twist. It's "This is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan. In the song, (skip to 1:36) he says, "The hoods been good to me, evera since I was a lower-case g. Now I'm a Big G. The ladies see. I gots the money. Hundred dolla bills, YAAAAAAALLL..!



Now that's just insulting to all the lower case gs out there. He's insinuating that just because they are small and lower-case, then they must belong to some kind of lower class and be disadvantaged when it comes to getting the money -or- making the ladies see. We must raise up our marginalized lower-case brothers and learn to see their inner biggness. We must fight against this 'lower-case-ism' polluting our society.

I remember when the snark comms used to be funny, like middle school children at a lunch table. Now they've turned into Women's Studies 101, full of a bunch of angry broads with no sense of humor. It's like there's a Constantly Offended Brigade goose-stepping all over the internet, searching for someone to spark their righteous indignation. Then they can bust out one of their catch-phrases, like 'victim-blaming, ableism or rape-culture'. The latter cracks me up, like every time I hear RAEP CULTURE, it makes me picture a bunch of frat boys acting out that scene from A Clockwork Orange, with a big mob of guys running around going BOOLOOBOOLOOBOOLOOBOOLOO!!!!!!!!, then breaking into random people's houses and raping their women. Also, what is up with this new trend of 'trigger warning this and trigger warning that...'. It's something new that just started happening within the last couple months. They never used to do it back in the day, before I was banned from sf_drama and people were comfortable using the word 'retard' as an insult. It's like, I'm sorry you had something bad happen to you, but get over yourselves, seriously. There are people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder who have fought in a fucking war, yet you don't see big mobs of angry veterans bullying people on the internet. Anyway, now that I've said what I've wanted to say, I'll leave you with a cartoon:
